Kyle Jean Baptiste's first performance as Valjean
I do not own this recording.
No copyright intended
That dont ask me was so well executed and the way they chose to have them behind him was so vivid
That "don't ASK me" gave me goosebumps
bruh the whole song gave me goosebumps
Chilling.
YESSSS that part gets me every time
I absolutely love him in The Lightning Thief Musical, but holy crap it does not do his voice justice. He is amazing.
Also, can we appreciate he was only 24 here???
i thought he was just okay until i saw this
I just realized I totally saw him as Marius when I went and saw it... NOW HE'S FREAKING PERCY JACKSON!!!!!
Cassidy Gage this is him as Marius, not Enjolras... (I don't know for sure, but I don't think he ever played enjolras??)
+viewer24792
I think he did, but the dude who played Marius left, so he replaced him.
His "becaaaaaame their last communion" was AMAZING!!!!
literal chills
Oh, brother, he smashes it out of Progressive Field {he was born in the Cleveland area}
Omg yes he sounds like an opera singer and his voice is so powerful
Still gives me chills after almost 9 years
Had the chance to see him live on Broadway. This was the first time I've seen a Marius performance that blew me away. More often than not the character remains "pale" with most singers, Chris combination of stellar singing and acting made the audience feel the emotions of the character.
I saw Les Mis live about two years ago and I'm pretty sure Chris was Marius. I had no idea who he was but now he's Percy Jackson
Percy if he chose to become a god and watched everyone he cared about die:
That would be so sad. But i think that annabeth would be he's immortal wife by then
Ok...no just no
Rlly. You had to say that?..
why would u say this i am sad now :c
Me, in the group chat earlier: Hey, imagine Percy singing "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables"!!! :D
Me, now: No longer need to imagine it ;-;
But for real, Chris was so good in this.
You
I’m
@@christopherbloomingburg1768 We're
I guess you could say...he's a good kid who's had a bad run
You're so mean I freaked, punched my laptop, and broke an already short nail. But I do love this
lol
All he ever did was take the fall ;)
😁😁
@@kimbrulee_the_musicalalways tried to be a good kid
I came here because of Chris McCarrell, and now I am sitting in my room crying.
It must be nice to be talented
Potato Pancake I feel this on a molecular level
Memento Mori
As a performer, when people say this to me it makes me so so very uncomfortable. A compliment at the expense of another person is not a compliment.
1:02- a simple note to myself marking that GLORIOUS LOW NOTE
"And tomorrow never came."
I FELT THAT IN MY CHEST OMG SO BEAUTIFUL!😳
people sleep on chris' marius. that is all
I keep replaying 1:37-1:54 just t hear him sing "beCAme " and "dauwNN" it makes my heart happy
I remember seeing this live. His performance was worth the 90 dollars alone. Amazing.
@The VISION Company that's actually pretty cheap for broadway just so u kno
@The VISION Company that's cheaper than what I pay to see the national tours. That's a hell of a good price
Freaking superb! Love how he's hunched like an old man, but his voice is young, plus he's a tenor so it's incredibly lively. All that plus the song matter put together make this sad song almost unsettling from his mouth. I really like it.
He could have easily starred in the movie.
Would be a waste though seeing as Eddie Redmayne was one of the few decent performances.
Nah he’s American-the cast of the film were mostly British with the exception of Hugh Jackman who’s Australian
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
Priya T Aaron Tveit who played Enjolras was American but yeah, most of the cast was British
Priya T amanda seyfried is also American and Russell Crowe is also Australian (though technically nz born)
@Rooby Roo yeah, Like kermit.
Chris is so extremely talented the goosebumps I got he absolutely nailed it ! I wasn't aware his vocal range was this amazing until seeing this the lightning thief is amazing but doesn't do his voice justice . I got chills throughout the whole song his "don't ask me" always gets me i love it his talent !
i wish i could see him in anything. this performance is incredible and always moves me to tears.
Saw him play Marius last year and this performance moved me to tears.
This is the most beautiful and powerful rendition of this song ive ever seen
It's a good second best. Michaell Ball owns this song tho.

wHO GAVE HIM THE RIGHT TO BE SO GOOD
i came here because of Percy Jackson but he is such a good Marius. Im sOBBING
Probably my favorite version of this song
Holy Sh!t I am in awe this man is absolutely incredible
holy damn he's incredible
I have chills. Chris is an amazing performer
Where was he when Nick Jonas sung Marius at the 25th anniversary concert??
He was someone else in the cast but he was still there I think
@@oliver297 I don't think so, he only joined Les Mis in 2014 for the revival. Plus the 25th was mostly the West End casts, rather than Broadway (apart from some of the major roles)
i am shooketh wtf how is this possible
He and Joshua Grosso were the best two American-born Marius'. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Grosso in Buffalo, New York in 2019, before the pandemic hit.
Percy and Marius are so different, but Chris plays both of them so well!
While I think I saw this first, after seeing him as Percy, it’s such a different performance, speaks to his talents truly
First time I saw him... he was sooo good!
It's so strange hearing him sing without the Percy Voice...but it's awesome.
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
There's a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables,
Now my friends are dead and gone.
Here they talked of revolution,
Here it was they lit the flame,
Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came.
From the table in the corner,
They could see a world reborn,
And they rose with voices ringing,
And I can hear them now
The very words that they have sung
Became their last communion
On this lonely barricade, at dawn.
Oh my friends, my friends forgive me
That I live and you are gone
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
And there's a pain goes on and on
Phantom faces at the window,
Phantom shadows on the floor,
Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more.
Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friend will sing no more.
😢
So I just remembered that Chris was in Les Mis and daaaaam, Percy Jackson doesn't really give his beautiful voice justice when it comes to riffs
They way he sings the word tables is SO pretty!
BY FAR! MY FAVORITE VERSION OF THIS SONG!!! PLUS HE'S PERCY JACKSON AND I LOVE THAT TOO!!!
“That I live and you are gone” was beautifullll
Saw this live a few years ago. Allthough his voice seemed a bit odd to me in the beginning, the way he put his emotions in his voice made it an amazing experience.
Don’t worry Chris, you’ll get your Tony some day 😭
Tearing up rn DAMN 👏😭
THE BEST MARIUS AWARD GOES TO CHRIS MCCARELL
By far one of my favorite songs of musical theatre.
My baby
Amazing
He's frikkin Percy Jackson now
Chris McCarrell is an amazing actor 😃
It's a shame that there are talented actors/singers like him and yet they settle for Nick Jonas in one of their anniversaries.
best marius ive seen
Andy Mientus though...
Whoa. I think I like his version the best.
I mean... I love him as Percy, but here...speechless
do you have the whole show with Chris?
I need it too! We all need it!!!
I have an almost complete bootleg of Chris as Marius (with Erika Henningsen as Fantine for Mean Girls fans)!! Email me @ carlyelah03@gmail.com if you want it!!
I second this!!
THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE OH MY GOD
God, I love this version
Definitely one of my favorite Marius’. Also just love Chris is general😂 I mean he’s freaking Percy Jackson. What could be better
Chills. Absolute chills
my favorite musical is les miserables and my favorite book series is percy jackson
so when I saw this I was like
'DAAAMMMM'
THE BEST MARIUS HANDS DOWN
Coming back to this after the story time he posted on his tiktok of him absolutely bombing his audition
Dang, I knew Chris was good (Lightning Thief musical), but I didn’t know he was "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" good! Shoot😍
Imagine Percy Jackson singing this if the war against Gaia would have totally went wrong
Oh hello here i am crying again
hes a good actor whos had a GREAT run!
This kills me every time.
Best Marius
Hottest Marius ever!!!
My Grandma Sharlie told me too listen to this.
*fangirling*
1:40 WOW!!!
This is an entirely different blocking of Marius. Was this on Broadway?
His voice gave me goose bumps fuck
BEST Marius by far in my opinion :))
Better than the movie.
...Percy?!
Do you have any more of this performance?
There's no dislikes FUCK YEAH
2:41 fucking kills me every time
Wow
1:47 , 1:52 a bit of a country twist, love it!
Gives me Kaz Brekker vibes
HOW DID RUclips KNOW I WAS ON HIS WIKI PAGE
holy fuck
anybody else think he'd make a great Jack Kelly?
I DIDN'T WANNA BE A HALF BLOOD-
sorry i'll stop there's too many TLT jokes in here already
u cant tell me percy doesnt relate to this song
Chris is Percy's stage name for when he does musicals.
Dam my boyfriend can sing.
Eddie Redmayne no contest
mhhh, i don't know what to think of this performance. on the one hand he is an absolute magnificent singer, without a doubt, and he nails every note. but on the other hand his voice carries so much anger instead of grief. which is fair enough, i guess. i just would have liked it more if he didn't spit out the words that much? it just doesn't fit what i thought marius' personality was like... idk. still, chris is obviously a great singer. it's just a different interpretation, i guess
Oof
why cant broadway singers actually sing anymore??? seriously .. all mic'd up and straighten'd sound .. sigh .. anyone can do this anymore
hi there I'd like to see you on Broadway
You dont understand how a mic works apparently, you still have to give it good sound. Take this from a vocalist who has to use a mic on an occasion. This is also broadway singing and not opera singing. Opera technique is why people can fill a huge auditorium without a mic, Broadway technique doesnt typically.
Aaron Tveit can flat out sing, and he's a Broadway vet.
i mean really .. does voice count anymore ? he is so sharp , and not interesting. sigh. (did i mention sigh?)
Whatever!
