Exactly! And, they sell a refill. Their packaging is so gorgeous and they are actively trying to make all their offerings sustainable, reusable, and recyclable. This is a no-brainer choice. Plastics need to fade into the past like disco...
The trick is getting the right water ratio. Also, try not to dig the brush into the product. Don’t press, just make small, light circles for a few seconds until it is a cream like consistency, like lip gloss.
I love my Besame cake mascara! I actually use it for my brows and eyeliner too! It’s def a learning curve but it’s just as easy as modern mascara to me now :)
TheClosetHistorian believe it or not, it’s the best brow product I’ve ever used. Since it’s not waterproof, I don’t always use it as eyeliner, but with setting spray it wears pretty well. Enjoy your products!
I have always wanted to try their cake mascara but I been a little afraid of it. I am currently binge watching your videos. I love the different kinds you do and they help me get through my day at work. Keep up the amazing work.
It seems to have applied more evenly at least to me with the funny little Besame brush. It looked like it got slightly clumpy with the spooly. I hear people use that cake mascara as liquid eyeliner too.
It definitely stuck more of my eyelashes together with the spoolie, but I actually quite liked the spidery false lash sort of effect it created. I'm excited to try it as eyeliner next!
I remember using Maybelline cake mascara....the little red box....and I think it was just to darken your eyelashes....no thickening or lengthening properties in the stone age, you know....I was a blonde with those long, invisible blonde lashes that was just begging for mascara! I don't remember a lot about it....but I am positive I was glad that you could actually see my lashes after use!
I purchased the Besame cake mascara to show when I do 1920s reenactment for the Audrain County Walk Back in Time. Mexico Missouri. I love it and am glad to see you do it.
TheClosetHistorian If you are in North East Missouri the last weekend n September, come to the event. Http//www.audrain.org You can walk around in your own vintage wear!
When I first started wearing mascara 40 yrs ago this kind of mascara was available. I really loved it + I think the effect was very like the eyeko waterproof that leaves tubes on your lashes. The effect is exactly the same.
TheClosetHistorian I just make sure it's dry before adding another layer (I prefer dark). I especially love how practical it is because of mixing as you need it so it will last a lot longer than repurchasing typical liquid liners.. But that's my opinion..🙋
I've often wondered what a 'cake' mascara was like to apply, quite surprised at how great it looked! The packaging is so beautiful with all the Besame products too. Thanks for reviewing lovely! Xxx
The first mascara I owned was cake. It was made by Mabelline, with a rectangular cake and the same brush you have there. It lasts longer than modern mascara and doesn't clump like the modern tubes. Thanks for presenting this product.
I really, really want to try that mascara! but with a spooly, my lashes are too dense for the flat brushes... yes, I am of the lash bragging crowd too ;) I have heard if you use very little water this should hold the curl quite nicely. But even if it doesn't, a mascara to go with my 1910s clothes would be ah-mae-zing!
Eeek I'm so excited you made this video!!!!! The products look so pretty its almost irrelevant if they work haha. You handled that old school application brush much better than other RUclipsrs I've seen. 💕
TheClosetHistorian Of course! I would use the spoolie too. I mostly like it because the packaging is a little more eco friendly than typical mascara...and you know pretty! 😍Haha
Totally, the thing is teeny! Luckily spoolie brushes are easy to come by from brands like elf and gave me a more curled finish even with just the Besame mascara.
You honestly don't need mascara with THOSE lashes! I wore cake mascara when I first started wearing makeup and I liked it for it's naturalness. The problem I have with some of the wand applications is that they act as magnets for any little bit of fibre floating in the air whereas the cake didn't get gummy.
I was merely sent these products by a friend of mine, not by Besame, so this was not sponsored by them in any way and alas sadly no I do not have a code or anything!
Redheads and I suppose blonds to some extent have really been overlooked historically my make up companies. Even to this day trying to find natural mascara for a redhead is nearly impossible. Everything is black black black and I have so many sample tubes of black mascara and black eyeliner that I just want to stomp a hole into the floor, but I'm too cheap to throw them away and so I use them and everyone comments that they look silly on me with my natural red hair, and THEY DO! They don't even have redhead emojis. Where is the ginger love? I do have a bad habit of messaging companies and letting them know what I think about the fact that they completely overlook redheads just like they do many people of different skin tones. Make-up for *ALL* I say!
I am a redhead, and I use the chocolate brown. It looks wonderful and doesnt overwhelm my face. I'm also very very pale. So, the dark colors are very stark. If I want a "black" eye liner I use a grey or dark brown. I have had a near impossible time with brows though.

This mascara is eco friendly !We should focus on not polluting the environment with plastic tubes and containers!
I’m working on using up my current tubes then I’m switching to this mascara no ifs ands or buts

Alas I use this product for my eyebrows instead now, and I quite like it for that!

I will have to try at as eyeliner next time!

Thank you Sherry! I have been using this product for my browns instead ever since this video and I love it for that! 😅
@@TheClosetHistorian explains why your brows have been looking on point. 😊

It seems like Maybelline kept making cake mascara the longest out of the major brands!

Besame are certainly perfect for reenacting!

I like the more subtle effect, it looks more natural somehow!
I use my Besame mascara as a liquid eyeliner 👍 (I use with their eyeliner brush, and love the precise line I get!).
I'll have to give it a try!

Thank you for the tips, I like my eyeliner real dark too! Now I am really excited to try it as I do actually need a new cruelty free eyeliner.
eileentheequeen👑 I use their mascara for eyeliner as well, only I just bought a paint brush at Michaels, and it works wonders!
I am so jealous of your long thick lashes! I wish I had yours! Thank you for showing me how cake mascara works!
I've often wondered what a 'cake' mascara was like to apply, quite surprised at how great it looked! The packaging is so beautiful with all the Besame products too. Thanks for reviewing lovely! Xxx
Thank you Jo! I wish I could visit the Besame store, it looks so dreamy with all the vintage inspired packaging!
TheClosetHistorian Oh my! Me too❤x

This is the only mascara I wear. it doesn't make my eyes sting, and I think it lasts very well during the day.
I really, really want to try that mascara!

“We’re getting a little Jackson Pollock-y on the eyelid here...” hahaha! Completely brilliant!!!
Your lashes are goals
Hi thank you for review but your eyeliner means I can't see your eyelashes or the product on them.
Eagle eyes when she shuts her eyes !
You used as eyebrow, eyeliner and mascara ..I like the brown one .
Your reaction to the close-up shot is the most relatable thing I've seen all week.
Ha thanks! i'm not used to my face that close up in HD ;)
I like your head scarf!!!!
Thank you Holly!
Eeek I'm so excited you made this video!!!!! The products look so pretty its almost irrelevant if they work haha. You handled that old school application brush much better than other RUclipsrs I've seen. 💕
Thank you! You made it possible (thank you again!) and it was quite fun to make!
TheClosetHistorian Of course! I would use the spoolie too. I mostly like it because the packaging is a little more eco friendly than typical mascara...and you know pretty! 😍Haha
I just wish you hadn't done eyeliner before the mascara. It made it too hard to see what the product looks like with your eyes open.
Ooh it gives a pretty look I was a little scared to try it because of how big the wand is as well you know? Xx
Totally, the thing is teeny! Luckily spoolie brushes are easy to come by from brands like elf and gave me a more curled finish even with just the Besame mascara.
Thank you for sharing ❤
I used to borrow my mother's cake mascara. God, I'm old. Lol
I think the first mascara I ever got a hold of was bright blue!
Cake mascara was the first kind Mother gave us when we were of an age.
I have been using this one for my brows recently and really like it for that!
Would you say this would work for those with glasses? I have tried
so mascaras that end up smudged on my lenses. :(
I have glasses, it doesn't smudge my lens, you just have to wait for it to dry.
You sound like Ellen/ Dory
I'm okay with that :)

Do you have a besame referral code? (:
I was merely sent these products by a friend of mine, not by Besame, so this was not sponsored by them in any way and alas sadly no I do not have a code or anything!
I wore it at 13 then at 14 wand mascara came out

Bésame has a chocolate brown mascara shade and a deep plum for lighter haired ladies😊

This question might seem weird, but what ethnicity are you?? You kinda look like my mom, lol. It’s trippin me out
I am an American mix of various European places really, but mostly Italian, and the rest is a bit of English and Dutch :)
You are just too funny. Looks like too much work.
Thank you Rose! It is certainly more work than usual mascara ;)
