I just learned this trick today: no need for vice grips. Remove a spark plug, stick is some rope and turn until the shaft doesn't turn. You can easily remove your nut. Works the same for reverse.
@@ollief9375 The rope goes into the engine block though the hole that the spark plug was in. On the other end of that hole is the piston. The piston jams up against the soft rope, no damage, and prevents the crank shaft from turning.
Francis Roy Thank you so much for the awesome description! I am visually imparted and you explained it very well. Will try on weekend for my pulley flop!
Francis Roy hey mate sorry to bother you again! But been trying to take pulley off and having a bit of trouble. Do you put about 2 metres of rope in and will the engine instantly stop turning or does it take a few spins?
@@ollief9375 I'm not sure that I understand your question, but I think that you're asking this: "I've put in tonnes of rope and the crank shaft still spins when I turn the pulley. How do I make it stop turning?" Is this correct? If so, I'm not sure how you got two metres of rope in it. When I say "rope" I mean rope, not string. Look into the hole where the spark plug was, with a flashlight. Turn the crank until you see the piston at the bottom position. Then stick in a chunk of rope. It only needs max 30-40cm. When the rope is in slowly turn the crank until it can't turn anymore, you'll feel it jam.
james arthur Thanks for the reply, the puller mangled the pulley so bad I had to replace it. I went thru a can and a 1/2 of pb blaster. I eventually heated the shaft with propane torch (which I didn’t want to do cause I didn’t want to melt the belt and was too lazy to remove it, but I eventually did) and with heat that mangled pulley came off like butter!

Where do you put the rope? Thanks for the tip btw that’s why I am watching vids cause don’t have a power tool with ratchet attachment

What about when the pulley won't slide off the shaft
pb blast nd maybe a gear puller if necessary

james arthur I already replied to that same comment
