I agree, when Hitfilm 3 & 4 originally came out there were no monthly services there were buy a product, you get 12 months of free updates. There motto were free software with what you need but, if yo professional and need more pay for the Pro. Then, it moved to the same thing but, with less free stuff in the free version getting rid of the free black mode, having issues with watermark. Etc. Idk. Then, they added monthly services in Hitfilm Pro like Adobe. My advice is to use a different software unless you already have older software of Hitfilm or already using Hitfilm.

I learned the art of filmmaking using Hitfilm Express 3 back in 2015. Its features were shockingly rich for a free editing program, and the pricing of Hitfilm Pro really set it apart as a reasonably priced, feature-rich alternative to Adobe's Creative Cloud suite. I upgraded to Hitfilm Pro in 2018, and have upgraded to every new version since. I've been an avid supporter of FXhome as a company, and I've probably recommended Hitfilm and Imerge hundreds of times. I was optimistic when Artlist announced that they'd be acquiring FXhome, but this is super disappointing. The arbitrary fragmentation between Hitfilm Express and Hitfilm Free will do nothing other than confuse potential customers. And what about people who have purchased add-ons for Hitfilm Express and wish to transfer them over to the new subscription model? And I don't doubt that support for perpetual licenses will eventually disappear in an effort to encourage use of the subscription model. I'm hoping for the best, but I really don't see this transition ending well.

ngl the way you're hiding perpetual plans on the site and stuff already gives me a bad vibe, the button is tiny and grey, like you want people not to find it. the most important difference from hitfilm to other services was that you get to keep it with the year subscription if you run out, it's saved me as a student when i couldnt afford to upgrade for a while, this change and the restrictions on free kinda seem like the very things that made me reccomend it including express' modularity are all in danger just for the prioritisation of subscription based income

I was excited given the previous videos on this subject but this... this is not the way. Artificially removing features from the free version while making the perpetual license less attractive is a very clear indicator that FXhome (or Artlist) is pushing Hitfilm to a subscription-only model.
Hitfilm has always sought to be like Premiere and After Effects. Unfortunately it looks like that's finally happening.

I use Hitfilm Express for majority of all my motion graphics and sometimes for client work since I found it to be the perfect alternative to After Effects. After this update it's virtually made all of my previously working projects null and void slapped with a watermark over them.
A good amount of the add on packs that I also SPENT MONEY on to use in my projects are now suddenly locked behind a subscription. It's unfortunate that I have to find a different VFX software to use that I'd rather spend money on ONCE and never have to pay monthly for as this current service model is INCREDIBLY counter productive for creatives like myself that use and even PAYED for some of these add ons and products.
I do wish the folks at FXHome the best of luck in their future endeavors but this is incredibly frustrating to see and hear.

I am happy with what I have now with HitFilm Express. How long will I still be able to use it before you pull the plug. That is the BIG problem with any software that is connected online to use. We are at the mercy of corporation whims. I don't see why I should have to pay a perpetual license to get software that is less capable than I have now, and that I have already paid for. The FREE version is too limiting. I don't care about templates, assets, music, tutorials etc. I just want what I have to continue. I know I can't be alone in this. Hmm. Is it just me or did the upgrade to an already owned perpetual version increased a lot in price? Was the upgrade price increased to make the subscription plans appear cheaper? I want to be sure that important software I use in my workflow is something I actually own and can keep on using. Without being forced to pay a subscription fee every month no matter how little you upgrade the software. I am left with the feeling that it is only a matter of time before the perpetual version will not be updated anymore... Honestly feeling a bit sad. I love using HitFilm but with the new high prices there really has to be some good upgrades to the software to make it worth the price of the upgrade (the renewal price is almost as high as buying the software from new!). Hoping for a massive upgrade soon when you are done with this Artlist takeover and start focusing on developing the software again.

I am really quite torn, I attempted to pick up a few more addons for the express version and discovered it is no longer an option. hate the idea of having to pay for features I don't want to use...also hate the idea of having to relearn a program and possibly losing the assets I have created. Luckily its not to many as I am still new to vfx.
So say I sub for a year, what happens if I chose not to renew, do I lose access to the program and everything I created or do I no longer get updates but can still use the program I had paid for for the last 12 months? When i hear subscription I think subbing to a magazine, if I unsub I still get the magazines I had already received but no more new stuff unless I resub.

I still remember when I first installed hitfilm 4 express on an old dusty 2gb RAM windows 7. At that time, my 14 years-old-self had tried several “free’ softwares (A.K.A: scams full of fatal viruses) until presented with the final solution for my no budget short film projects. I watched one of the short films that Hitfilm would create for each program launch, this time partnering with FilmRiot for “portal combat”, and was thrilled by how great and easy it was to follow along the tutorials of my favourite filmmakers. It packed a ton of pro features entirely for free, which ultimately led to my purchasing the pro product. Since then, HF has seen me grow and develop as an aspiring filmmaker. I almost no longer utilise Hitfilm now, but still it has left its mark in my life and still has a place on my windows 11 desktop. To the HF team: KEEP being a genuine small yet creative team (no matter how tempting joining the big “subscription-based” companies may be); KEEP creating short films for each product launch, KEEP inspiring guerrilla filmmaking and overall KEEP, PROTECT and CHERISH the great community you have, don’t let them down. After all, HF started out as a community-supposed dream that has come true

Software as a service is not good for regular users. Its better for studios who might need to use it for a quick project, but that's it, and that is hardly Hitfilm's target audience. Lets try not to pass the software as a service model as some great move you guys are making. If its boiling down to subscriptions, users might as well just go with Adobe's creative cloud at that point.
What's with the changes to the website as well? Before the acquisition, it was obvious that the product was a video editor and compositor. Now it looks like some advertising agency offering their services for youtubers. Its a huge downgrade in marketing.

I left Hitfilm a long time ago because it's too limited. All about compositing and VFX and when you need to edit and to be fast and to optimize your workflow it seems like you are stucked to windows movie maker. For example Davinci Resolve is free and has A LOT more then Hitfilm. Create presets without any efforts or without the need of too many workarounds (like create a composit to save a presets about just a PiP) when you know.. premiere pro -> right click on transform and save preset | Davinci Resolve -> Save still and re apply by just clicking the middle mouse button. i would LOVE to use Hitfilm, for real. I even bought in 2019 hitfilm pro, but oh boys... I even contacted you to help you out about looking for those features that can improve life quality for your content creators but i got ignored.

The perpetual plans aren't the same as the subscription, so by buying the perpetual plan, you get a year of updates then keep whatever version your software gets to (basically a one time fee if you weren't too bothered about updates) without having to pay after the year unless you wanted to get another year of updates. This is very similar to a lot of software companies (like Affinity) and it's the older pricing plan.

They literally still have perpetual licenses available. Why is everyone freaking out? Pay for Netflix or streaming services no problem. Pay Fxhome 9.99 a month and people go crazy. Again…. there’s still the perpetual licenses soo why is everyone freaking out?
Blackmagic can afford to offer a one time payment for their software because they make sales in hardware as well. Same as Apple. But companies that ONLY offer software services need subscriptions to keep afloat.
I got started on Hitfilm. I use other software now working with brands that do commercial work that require me to use their system but if you guys are complaining about the OPTION to buy a subscription plan (most don’t even give u the option) then you really should leave cuz what the hell? Because they've removed the free option many people use.

@Tumcan Zimri I guess it’s the difference between a working professional and a hobbyist looking for a free handout.
You probably pay more than 9.99 on things you don’t even need in a day let alone a whole month. What is that, less than 3 dollars a week for a HitFilm subscription? Oh and guess what, they still have a perpetual license available for those that like one time payments.
I use Blender, Resolve, Adobe, etc. in my workflow because those are what work for me but I’m not going to be ignorant and pretend like 9.99 is gonna break me. At my poorest I’d still be able to afford this and I’ve come from the very bottom in life.
Companies like FXhome have allowed me the career that I have now and if you can’t appreciate them to at least support them for all the years of free things they’ve given you then you probably aren’t their target audience anyway
