seriously though, why are we obsessed with the apocalypse?

Because it's less painful than knowing the world will continue after we die. To be here for the end would be a privelage. Makes our lives more meaningful.

Civilization is either on the upswing or on the downturn. Humans have a natural sense of which is which and if you review media of the same type from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, you will notice a sharp turn from "The future is glorious" to "The future is hell".

Happy to see Sally do a non-anime commentary video. Change of pace. I believe much of the apocalyptic sentiment is down to a mixture of...
    - Recent wars (Israel-Gaza, Ukraine-Russia)
    - Inflation and increasing inequality
    - Rise of authoritarian leaders (whether people want to admit it or not?)
    - Increasing numbers of suicide
    - Terrorism
    - Rising crime rates
    - Intense poverty and deprivation
    - Increasing drug and alcohol abuse
    - Xenophobia and increasing discrimination/racism
    Take it as you will?

      @@heysaladdaze yeah, I did.
I think the idea of an apocalypse is charming to many, because it is some sort of "reset" they think that would change their mundane lives somewhat. I think that apocalypse stories used to be ways to tell about the failure of mankind, but nowadays the reason why the apocalypse occured is irellevant, it's the fantasy what comes after that people want to read or watch.
Things aren't looking good irl right now, but they aren't looking apocalyptic just yet. So I don't expect it to become reality soon.

Because we as a planet always seem like we are walking on a razors edge between war, natural disasters, and our own over consumption.
We also don't live in a way humans were meant to. We are extremely individualistic. Apocalypse means we get to go back to being nomadic tribes with a close group of family/friends.
We don't have to go to a job we hate and can just focus on surviving. Surviving is a lot of work. But I have done it on purpose spent a week in the woods with nothing but a knife, fishing pole, and some rope.
The work it took to survive was way more enjoyable then almost any job I've had. I also grew up way out in the woods on an almost completely self sustainable system. Between animals, gardens, and foraging.
I know how to hunt, what plants are edible and which are medicinal, I can build a car that runs on wood gas, I know how to setup solar power and battery banks, I can fly a plane, I know how to trap animals with sticks and bark from trees. I know how to make ammo. I am ready for the end of days 😅 never actually preparing for the end days just skills I have learned growing up the way I did.

I don't have dreams of the typical Apocalypse, I have cosmic horror dreams where the earth literally explodes or the moon crashes into earth. Literal Junji Ito horror type dreams. I can feel my body senses something is wrong.
Look up permafrost melting and the explosive(literally) consequences.

Why do people fantasize about an apocalypse? Because deep down, everyone wants to escape the burdens and shackles of society and live as free as they can possibly be. for some its the draw or the wild west life style, for others its simply to be whoever they want to be. many would like to know if they have the grit to survive such a world.
In the end it all comes down to society being the problem.

The timing of this video is quite ironic given the current political context with conscription introduction in some countries following the war in Ukraine and the very real threat of climate change and ecological collapse with poor economic prospects.

    • @chumbucket5198
      @chumbucket5198 6 месяцев назад

The "timing" comment and the lack of understanding of climate change, its history, and the tolerances we are well within the range of is simply fear and ignorance... often which go hand-in-hand. Randall Carlson is a core sample geologist* and paleontologist with a specialty in ancient weather, and the broader (if not entire) community of folks who understand weather all agree it's the dialogue changing, not the samples and records that we on our human journey have had to reflect on for 1,000's if not 10's of thousands of years. In the grand comparison, we're in a relatively peaceful and lovely time in Earth's weather. Now justify, let alone provide any counterpoint in the spirit of fair debate and I'll gladly rebuke one's lack of simply not knowing until now. If the phytoplankton in the oceans collapses because of China's toxic chemical escapades, we all die. That's about the only thing that could really cause a disaster of an apocalyptic scale. India isn't far behind, they are just as tarnished and cursed as a grand population with awesome responsibilities.
Ukraine just got 100 billion USD as of a few days ago... 10% of a trillion... Blackrock owns or bids for all the property that's sold... Vanguard owns or bids for the rest. Research their owners and who they're married to and it becomes quite obvious me typing this and you talking about this is insubstantial and it's a "Know your place, trash!" check. We are in a fear porn forum from a video that doesn't even mention our genetic, Pavlovian fear of cataclysms because our species (like rabbits to shadows of snakes) knows the power of life and death they wield.
Most really have no idea why they're fighting either. Often skewed as various forms of nationalism (a rather robust source for war over the last century), but is rather about control of various markets from criminal organizations that filled in the power vacuum from the 2010 war from the same people most don't historically understand either.
The real catastrophe we face today financially was perpetrated by Epstein, whom worked for Baer-Stern and internally sabotaged them for the 2008 'financial collapse' and 99% are so understudied or liberal that it simply isn't a conversation about how we got there, but what we're going to do while we're in freefall going into manmade horrors beyond our comprehension because you've never had a night without sustenance, safety, and shelter, let alone for weeks or months; nor do any except those within understand limited hangout politics or the goals of the psychopathic, syphilis-infected dungeon of narcissistic control freak monsters who vie for their delusional iteration of what control and rule is.
Here, try out "The Swiss Beast" series just for a taste of who Elon is. That's just one and his family. His father worked with Gates' hyper connected, rich father in the Tuskegee studies, because y'know... they're all infected with syphilis (it's genetic). His mother was friends with Jean Luc Brunnel, the French Epstein connection and his major supplier of flesh and blood (adrenochrome / adraxone) from Europe. Just one player. Try Spielberg out next, creator of the MEGA organization. These players are nothing like you imagine, and they can, have, and will cause more collapse, suffering, and devastation than any amount of acid being poured into the oceans by China for fishing... well, maybe... that's quite a race to the bottom.
