Reminds me of another Delta Airline flight I took from ATL to SAN during the evening in a B757 as well, and the pilot went right into a thunderhead. We were watching the movie at the time, and then hit by lightning, big screech on the headset, lights went off, and the plane fuselage was twisting wings were being pushed up, and the other wing pushed down... worst turbulence ever, for 1/2 hour... NOT a word from the captain of what was going on, except the FA announces "ladies and gentlemen, the plane is not being damaged" (so reassuring) .... subsequently the pilot came on the PA to announce, that even if we went higher, we would have still been in the thunderhead!

The flight attendant saying "no problem" we have a lightning rod is funny! LOL In reality this aircraft suffered damage to it's electrical system, it spent the next couple of weeks at the Delta maintenance hanger in Salt Lake. It was one of six planes hit by lightning that afternoon in SLC. This plane was the only one that was really damaged. That was one sweet landing though.

I'm deaf since i was born so I'm not sure if there was announcement however my friend told me the pilot (off duty this time) told several passengers to not worry at all because this plane is designated to prevent from getting some serious damage. I've talked with my director of aviation mechanic program at my school (hes retired from being captain for the A319/A320, 737, 767, and 777 for many years) and he said it's one of the most commons to write down on the logbook and make a report for inspection by airframe and powerplant certificated before making a determine to return the service.
