No less than 3 pilots and 2 witnesses reported this via email at the second it was happening. I started editing the video while UAL1001 was still enroute to Denver.
It still surprises me how awesome this community we all have built is. Thank you.
More information to be updated as it releases from official sources.
EDIT: By the way this is the second video I publish today. If you have not watched the first one or it didn't show up due to the algorithm, you can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/siYJgXZsXCM/видео.htmlsi=sydUqlcqJzvBsNsm
We need you to start going live before these events occur. That would be great. Thanks
No more official source than you, sir! Thanks for getting this info out to the masses!
United 1001, this is Tower it was reported you lost a tire on takeoff! What do you wish to do?
Tower this is United 1001. We are going to continue we have more than just one tire on our airplane.
You can remove the "?si=somethingsomething" part from the URL. Its for tracking only.
so what tire was it?
Legend has it that UA1395 is still trying to report that tire and getting stepped on.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
UAL1395: 🧏♂️(x2)
Tower: 🙉 (x2)
Not legend…. That’s absolute fact. 😂😂
No love for UA 1395
Absolutely disgraceful that the tire did not request clearance to cross 2 runways!!!
"Possible tire deviation, stand by to copy number"
Possible tire deviation
😂
This has not been a Goodyear for United eh.
Too tired to comply
Re: The pilot asking to know which tire it was... We once had a tire tire fail during the takeoff. Within 10 minutes our maintenance department found enough of the serial number on the debris and let us know exactly which location on the plane it was from. I was impressed. The value of proper maintenance records!
I'm assuming a nose tire would be more problematic, but the rear wheel you have like fifty redundant tires so wouldn't be any issue at all.
@@real_dddfthe pilot was asking what tire was missing so he would know how the landing needed to go. If the nose gear is missing he’s gonna land on the belly of the plane, if either of the rear wheels are missing it will pull to the opposite side and he has to compensate for that. He doesn’t care about a replacement until he gets back on the ground safely.
@@vagirl19If only one wheel is missing off the nose gear, they may still attempt a normal landing. If both wheels are missing off the nose, they will not belly land, but touch down normally and let the nose down to drag to a stop. Landing with gear up and on the engines is the last thing you want to do.

@@OldDistantHermit EXACTLY! Lol! Good one!
I can’t stand everyone in the media calling this a Boeing issue and people saying they need to fix this. They don’t understand anything about aviation but act like they do
Nailed it!
It's a UNITED maintenance issue. Nothing to do with Boeing. The severist of punishments need to be levied against them. Gross negligence!
We don't know who's fault it was until properly investigated. I will say though we have heard many times that it's not Boeing's fault and it's an isolated incident, only for it to happen again then Boeing admits it was their fault.
I think at this point the whole world knows that you cannot trust American companies or engineering. They are a corrupt country who only care about money. I have heard that the EU plan to ban Boeing from flying in their airspace because they keep killing their citizens. Airbus plans to open 7 new factories for all the new orders for airlines that dropped Boeing. Also Embraer plan to build their own Boeing planes under license but with proper safety features and checks.
@@meddyven and it's the second time that United have lost a wheel on take-off in 3 months! Across two airframe types as well!

Elmer Fudd says Oh wheely????
I see people on facebook blaming this on Boeing.....It's like blaming Chevy because your mechanic didn't tighten your lug nuts. 🤦♂
United 1395 wanted so badly to say it
What's up with United's maintenance procedures? It's only been about 3 months since my channel recorded the wheel falling off United 35 to Japan from SFO. Can't blame Boeing for shoddy maintenance.
Before you comment get the facts first. It is neither United or Boeing fault. It's vendor's fault. The bearing of the tire faulted do not sheared off. Now days people throw comments with out getting any facts.
@@dantag5195 Obviously you are the one ignoring facts. Wheels don't stay on the aircraft indefinitely; they get switched out. Any defects should be noted during the switching out, unless they cut corners and don't check. On top of that, aircraft go in for periodic stem to stern inspections. Do YOUR homework before criticizing others.
@@TheGospelQuartetParadise listen, I have first hand information and I have the picture of the wheel, I wish I could share that with you. 100% it is vendors fault. No more to say.
@@dantag5195 You may have nothing else to say, and no matter what may be the vendor's fault, who is ULTIMATELY responsible for the maintenance of the aircraft? United's maintenance Department. Just like the issue with the Boeing door plugs was the fault of the vendor, BOEING assembled the aircraft incorrectly. People always blame the subcontractors, but the Airline is the one responsible for contracting with them in the first place. By the way, that was my crew @Cali Planes that caught that wheel coming off United 35 at SFO back in March.
Some passenger is going to be really mad when they find out their tire didn’t make the flight.
Only if it was United Comat. And they needed it for an aircraft in Denver.
United 1232 had it all together, it's 1001 that came untied.

Wheel on united goes round and round, all through the town🤣
I always say at O'Hare, these things always come in 3s...first, we'll get some sort of emergency: a compressor surge on take-off, a medical emergency on an inbound flight...SOMETHING! And almost immediately after or at some point during the shift, we'll have 2 more issues to deal with.
Absolute facts!
I guess the mechanic was sick on lug nut day

What fact do you have it is maintenance fault??
Wow. Impressive ATC. Everything right down to giving OPS direction as to which runway to check first. Nice work.
Not a Boeing issue.

Yep, on their RUclips channel, has you credited @@VASAviation
legend has it the tire was last seen just outside of Compton, headed south
United's maintenance ops are becoming concerning. This is not the first wheel to to depart one of their aircraft. I work in an MX shop (non-airline). That doesn't just happen. It can only be from improper installation/inspection.
Now that's a type of foreign object debris you don't get to deal with everyday. 😳
Glad no one was hit by the tire! That's a lot of kinetic energy. Flying tires have literally killed people on roads. Although it probably won't kill anyone in an airliner, it will do serious damage.
They had one at SFO earlier this year that destroyed a car in long term parking m.ruclips.net/video/BeGo79nRMwU/видео.html
If it hits the side of an airliner at take off speed, uncomfortable betting it could still kill someone on the inside.
Airliners are tough to be sure. But those main wheels are typically around 500 lbs. You said it yourself. That. Is. A. *Ton.* of energy being slammed into the side of something.
Now if it glances off said airliner, it won't hurt anyone.
But it's the same thing as throwing a shoe at a fly.
@@davecrupel2817 And by a quirk of physics, those tires hit significantly harder due to the fact they are spinning with takeoff velocity at the tread. The impact has to dissipate rotational energy in roughly the same way as the standard kinetic energy.
@@ExtremeSquaredTheir rotational kinetic energy probably exceeds their linear kinetic energy. When they hit something, they apply insane shear forces - comparable to braking forces of an aircraft wheel on the ground. Such a tire hitting a leading edge could do surprising amount of damage - it wouldn’t be a dent, more like a deep gash, potentially breaching a wing tank.
The Concord was brought down by debris on the runway. It's not just the rolling that's the problem.
Tire: I'm freeeee! Free as a bir. . . . . .
Denver: Yeah, about that...
Wow, that was fast. Exellent!
If they continue losing parts like that, you can probably assemble a full gear by the end of next year with what you gathered from around the airports...
Unbelievable!.. thank you for this video!

Interesting that the previous time a wheel fell off of an aircraft back in March it was a United Aircraft. They need to take a look at the processes it seems.

As an A&P myself, what the hell is going on with aviation lately! Its almost twice a day average VASAviation uploads of some kind of incident or shenanigans happening! Yes, I said shenanigans, internet, do your thing!.....
Im amazed we haven't had another major accident with all the things that have been happening the past few years.
There is a good chance this is partly due to observer bias. We have the ability to see these things that before we had no access to. So it can seem like the problem is worse. Not saying there aren’t issues, just that it can be difficult to judge purely on these videos. Like dashcam footage. It’s prolific now, so people think that drivers are worse than they are on average (also not saying that drivers aren’t worse).

It must have been wheel-y tired and needed to take some of the pressure off.
A Delta 757 lost a wheel taking the runway in January. Sounds very similar.
Maintenance and Pilots feel free to correct me but I though a separated wheel was an immediate return as it may have caused damage to the aircraft upon separation. If anyone has a P&P manual could you look it up.
-You hit a bird?
-Yeah, sorry about that.
The important question: Did they put crime scene tape around the tire like last time? 😂

It was a black round tire.
I guess United felt that Southwest was getting too many headlines. :)
Did they ever say what tire it was? I assume it was one of the rear ones.

Alarming the mediocre level of maintenance UA has. This airline is not only treating its customers like crap but also their airplanes as well.
We've had a good few wheel incidents the past couple of years and given how robust the design of a wheel is, I can only think of serious negligence/incompetence when I hear about another one of these...
Think of the number of wheel bearing/axle assemblies in the fleet - They keep creeping the required maintenance range overhaul times for everything longer and longer because they have gotten better at making things overall and can mostly do so to save cash - but that means there will be a slight rise in spurious failures - wether that is acceptable or not is up to regulators and the public. Everything is about cutting costs “for the shareholders” nowadays.
They literally had to ask people on that flight later while landing in DEN to brace cuz of that stray tire 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Rather than leaving one's heart in San Francisco. Somone dropped a wheel in LA.
