Mr. Bocelli has such a beautiful voice and a pleasure to listen to. There were so many legitimate opera singers with magnificent voices and everybody has their favorite. But their is only one that when I hear him sing regardless of the poor recording quality of his era, I have tears in my eyes. The only opera singer that has that effect on me is Enrico Caruso.
How different people's perception can be.......Caruso has never had a particular impact on me.

To talk about Bocelli in the same breath as Caruso, is an insuilt to one of the greatest tenors of all time. Bocelli a good pop opera singer nothing more. Thank god for Kaufmann, Domingo, Corelli, Bjorling, Pavarotti, great operatic singers,capable of singing without amplification and with a vocal ability and technique Bocelli will never have.People have every right to prefer listening to him to great operatic tenors, but the praise lavished on his vocal ability, sheer hyperbole for anybody who understands anything about what makes a great tenor voice.
@@peterholwill1170 Bocelli sings opera, but he is not an opera singer. The names that you mentioned Kaufmann, Domingo, Corelli, Bjorling, Pavoratti, possessed beautiful and many had powerful voices. But what sets Caruso aside and in a class of his own, is that he was able to express the heart and soul of whatever he was singing better than anyone else. When there was sadness Caruso expressed sadness better than anyone else, when there was a loss of a loved one, Caruso expressed the loss better than anyone else. It is said that Caruso had a tear in his voice. And remember many of the singers that you mentioned had the benefit of modern technology to aid their singing capabilities where Caruso did not have. My grandfather sat far back in a theatre when Caruso sang without a microphone and grandpa said that it was like Caruso was close in front of him. How many other singers possess that capability?

are trained to sing without the use of a microphone.As for the emotional impact any singer has on a listener this is personal and will vary from listener to listener so an opinion is only subjective.I find Jonas Kaufmann, Corelli, and Di Stefano have more emotion in their singing than any other tenors, but purely a subjective opinion.You can discuss vocal ability and technique objectively.

Andrea Bocelli è davvero bravo, ce lo invidiano in tutto il mondo. Ha molto talento e non faccio paragoni, ma se qualcuno lo critica vuol dire che di lirica ne capisce poco.

I am a critic of Bocelli and I certainly have heard great operatic tenors both on record an at The Royal Opera House, BarbicanCentre. Bocelli lacks the range, agility and projection required for opera performances, a weakness eliminated since he uses a microphone. His upper register is weak and sometimes hoarse. Great opera singers train for years and are able to sing and be heard above an orchestra without amplification. If Bolcelli is envied all over the world it is by people who do not understand the limits of his voice. To compare him to the likes of great tenors of the past like Corelli, Bjorling, Di Stefano, Gigli, or tenors singing today like Kaufmann, Juan Diego Florez, Domingo, Jose Cura, Lawrence Brownlee is just ridiculous and would only be made by a person who has no understanding of operatic vocal technique. If people prefer to listen to him to proper operatic tenors and get more enjoyment in so doing, that's fine. But subjective opinions carry little weight when discussing vocal technique.

I could see the confusion in his face, and the uncomfortable expressions of the First Responders. Whom ever sent them out at that time needs to be returned to... production school 101!! How Sad!!!!! Some of the greatest tenors who have ever lived were Italian. Caruso, Gigli, Corelli, Di Stefano, Carlo Bergonzi, Pavarotti. I would not insult any of the aforementioned tenors by including Bocelli in the list. He has a pleasant lyrical voice, and is one of the best crossover pop opera singers alive today.

If you really think this voice s incredible you obviously have never listend to Corelli, Di Stefano, Bjorling, Gigli, Pavarotti, Carreras who are bona fide opera singers. Bocelli has a sweet voice, which is amplified, he sings opera in a pop mode, uneven tone and his upper voice frequently raspy. A think to praise Bocelli so hiighly is insult to the aforementioned truly great operatic tenors;

Perché non fanno cantare tenori giovani con voci fresche potenti. Questo se non era cieco non lo avrebbe mai fatto arrivare nessuno così in alto
Per me è arrivato meritatamente, adesso ha pure lui la sua età. poi ben vengano i giovani e forti. lo spazio non lo toglie nessuno anzi ci sarebbe bisogno.
E' sempre stato un mediocre, tra l'altro cerca di imitare Franco Corelli che gli ha dato qualche lezione di canto, ma gli riesce assai male.

Ha pure un microfono attaccato sulla fronte, i tenori di una volta come Corelli Gigli Del Monaco Tucker Bjorling Masini Pertile ecc non avevano bisogno di questi aiuti tecnologici, anche Pavarotti lo utilizzava quando doveva fare Calaf nella Turandot Radames in Aida e Manrico nel Trovatore.
