Franco Corelli own the Voice ! Nobody have controll and force in the voice like him ! He was the most beutifull voice in opera and songs ! A dramatic tenor ! The Best in World ! It could have several good tenors .....but Corelli was The great dramatic tenor of the century ! !👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
They are all exceptional talents but for me, Franco Corelli stands up with his interpretation full of emotion and perfection. It is difficult not to have goosebumps while listening to him.
No need to compare, each is doing something only a few people in the world can do at that level. Let yourself fall in love with whomever it is touches your heart most deeply. For me, that is Jose Carreras; for you that may be another romantic hero. How fortunate we are to listen to them all.
For me no doubt Franco Corelli is on top of the mountain I listen this peace again and again, feel always fresh and never enough❤ thousand thanks to gifted great Tenor great man🎉🎉🎉
I love listening to Kaufmann, just because of the wonderful sound, without going into technicalities, but Del Monaco..., and oh Corelli! How can anyone better Corelli here?
Interesting. It's that quality that I don't like about Kauffman. His is not th bright sunny, squilante sound of the Italian tenor tradition . He lacks, ( for me) the very thing that makes the tenor voice so thrilling. Corelli has it in abundance. Compare them singing the same highnote. Tenor singing is as much a style as a range. But I must say Kauffman is a good actor, looks great and seems like a hell of a nice guy.
At the end of the day, anyone who can stand and sing before thousands, sometimes millions if people has my admiration and respect. It's like taking your clothes off in public. They managed to overcome so many fears just to be there so we can nit pick their singing. But it's what we do. We are opera buffs, long considered the meanest and most opinionated group in all of music Fandom. And it is pretty darn fun!
I think Domingo's 1976 version (the one used for the filmed Tosca) is not bad. He was much younger and had a bigger voice. It would be a fairer comparison if you must compare him with Franco Corelli and MDM- in a league of their own.
Soo here Placido Domingo for his dramatic flair. Kaufman for his interpretation and Corelli for the incredible power of his voice. Voila . But my heart belongs to di Stefano ❤
I'm not sure there is a best performer with this aria here. It's strictly based on personal preference. Kaufmann should become a baritone. He would make a good Nabucco.
ok... Corelli and Del Monaco, there is nothing to criticize, but Tucker is that one who catches me, his stunning techniques makes the musical expression possible. Only his acting is a little "antique".
You will never surpass the live performance of Di Stefano from Mexico in 1952.He was forced to repeat an unsurpassable performance.Audience demand and get a bis(repeat)!I was in tears.
Curious…where are Caruso, di Stefani, Pavarotti? (To name only a few) My favourites are Corelli (and the absent Caruso). That said you can’t truly compare a studio recording with a live performance. Basic fair testing rules apply-unless you have the same auditorium (acoustics)recording equipment and engineer (settings) there can’t really be a truly objective and definitive comparison- only preference. I reckon enjoy them all because they all have much to offer when heard stand-alone.
Very impressed by Tucker. Though I agree with the above comment in that it is slightly too heroic. But Richard Tucker is absolutely outstanding here. As for Del Monaco, Di Stefano, and Correlli, well what can you say. This one aria is also Domingo's best in Italian. Not really a big fan otherwise, though of course he is good.
No he was a lyric tenor who could sing some spinto roles, but not dramatic roles, beautiful voice but on the small side especially in bigger opera houses, marvelous voice all the same, there is no 1 tenor who can sing all 3 lyric, spinto, dramatico
Yes but as a real tenor voice noone is even close to Bjorling in my opinion but you can tell that Corelli for example had very good dramatic voice maybee the best but he could not sing in the same quality the lyrics.. Bjorling could sing exellent in many heavy areas of cource not all as Corelli did. Ok some prefer the more heavy in music i prefer the beaty in the music its like compare hard rock with pop.
@@rogerengblom5061 Corelli did sing a few lyric tenor roles, such as Werther, La Boheme, Romeo et Juliette he even did Lucia Di Lammermoor once. I think his Werther was quite excellent, he could really showcase the emotion of the character. He could sing Che Gelida Manina quite well, because he placed a lot of emotion into the aria; ruclips.net/video/9_RaE13vf3o/видео.html That being said, I wouldn't say he was the best in these lyrical roles, people in general will like other interpretations more. The same is true with Bjorling as well, he could get through a decent Trovatore or Aida, but he certainly wasn't the best in those roles. There are many other better interpretations that could be chosen ahead of his. Very few Tenors can actually do justice to both lyrical and dramatic roles. It is only the very rare lyric spinto tenors such as Giacomo Lauri Volpi or Mario Filippeschi.
Domingo has a beautiful tone. Piercing like a laser. Not of the preferences are bad and all offer different shades of colors to this legendary aria. My all time favorite is Di Stefano’s encore performance I don’t think anyone will ever reach that bar with this particular aria. Del Monaco has a flair for arias of tragedy as in his performance here. It doesn’t get much better than his rendition. Who’s the voice after Del Monaco? His spinto voice almost a baritone. I always thought Tucker should have been given more recognition for his astounding voice.
Yes kaufman,a baritone voice, cloudy muffled sound,I loved a young di stefano, but the grleatest dramatic is my favourite del monaco followed by spinto tucker and Corelli alas kaufman is well and truly out of his depth
How could you leave out the best Tenor🗣🎶 of the 20th and so far the 21st Century, Luciano Pavarotti? He had the highest and clearest resonance Tenor voice thus far!
I love Corelli, but occasionally he employs effects that arent called for in the score ot by the dramatic situation just to show off I think. Such as the famous and expected dimenuendo in this aria. Its beautiful, but in the end, the response is " wow, look what he can do." Doesnt illuminate hidden aspects of the character! I must say he is rather more tasteful here than in live performance.
I’ve read somewhere that Corelli used to hear Fleta’s recordings while learning to sing, and Fleta’s diminuendos and filatos somehow influenced him. I don’t know to which extent This is true. There are a couple of recordings of Fleta singing this aria on you tube (from 1924 and 1929). There are also Anecdotes about Fleta and Puccini, who reportedly once went to hear him in Viena and said to him “ if I would have wished this aria to be sung this way I would have written it accordingly”. Fleta answered: “ look maestro, when I sing the arias as you wrote them people applaud me. When I sing them my way, they stand up and ask for a “bis”. Be that as it may, I’m “ team Corelli “ ❤️ (PS sorry for my poor English)
@martasalanova8156 I've never heard that Fleta story, but I dont doubt it. On the flip side, Caruso asked Puccini if he minded if he made a slight change in the text to a more comfortable vowel. Puccini( and I paraphrase) told him that if he keeps singing it with that voice, he can change whatever he wants , even sing it in Chinese if it helps. Sometimes I've wondered if Corelli studied Bonci's gratuitous dimenuendi. They both sometimes seemed to do it just because they could, without connection to the text or the action. Corelli did it more and more as his career neared the end. He gave his fans what they wanted. ( I'm team Corelli top, I just recognize he was human, lacked confidence , was married to a psycho. It all makes him more relatable than if he was a perfect tenor God.
Corelli is extremely vulgar! No sensitivity! I'm not a fanatic italian! But I love very much Giuseppe Di Stefano! Mervellous!
Franco Corelli own the Voice ! Nobody have controll and force in the voice like him ! He was the most beutifull voice in opera and songs ! A dramatic tenor ! The Best in World ! It could have several good tenors .....but Corelli was The great dramatic tenor of the century ! !👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Pavarotti was smoother, more refined
@@urbanwarrior3470 Pav was lyric tenor, FC - tenor spinto
Corelli has vocal chords of steel. Such passion, raw emotion & sheer power in his voice. He owned the Puccini roles.
They are all exceptional talents but for me, Franco Corelli stands up with his interpretation full of emotion and perfection. It is difficult not to have goosebumps while listening to him.
La perfezione
All wonderful, but oh, Corelli! ❤ And he certainly knew how to fill a pair of trousers, 'golden thighs' indeed!
Kaufmann Er berührt und diese Stimme!

It's Jose Carreras for me too. You can feel the depth of his emotion in every utterance.

Only Corelliis genuine Cavarodossi. The aria suits his voice much better than others' ❤
Wow. What a lineup of greats.
Thank you for compiling these wonderful performsnces! I would welcome another set, but these are among the best I've seen.
I love both Jonas Kaufman and Richard Tucker, who sound like baritones who can sing tenor. I love the richness that gives their voices.

In the 60-s FC was absolutely incredible, here he was beginning his fabulous career... His Parma Cavaradossi is unsurpassable
Totally agree, the greatest ever, nothing will ever come close.
In my opinion, in this opera rol, the best are Del Monaco and Corelli but the Miguel Fleta version is gorgeous.
Yesss, Fleta’s rendition should be here.
