I inherited my fathers bretonnians when he got out of the game in 8th. As a little kid it was everything I wanted in a faction. Noble knights, and funny looking peasants. Not a lot of people wanted to play a kid though so I mostly just played my dad occasionally or one of his friends he bribed to play me. I hope this game takes off and I can lead my Dad's old models to battle, but the state of the reveals has made me very worried about this game.
One way or another, the proud banners of Bretonnia will fly again o>
Ah that’s nice, hope you can keep the army for long enough for your own son
thats beautiful man
Why? It all looks amazing.
And if you want it to succeed then don't just use old minis, buy the products.
I left everything GW related around 2014. My armies are dusting in the shelves.
I wanted to return to 40K around 2020, but saw that my Space Marines were useless and I had to buy Primaris, so I didn't.
Now, as far as I can see, I can play old world with my existing Empire army with little investment. I want to try it when it comes out.
Where are you guys located?
Good discussion guys. I’m also a bit confused on exactly what GWs goal is with this game given how they are handling it thus far. Idk. Hope we know a lot more this weekend!
My "conspiracy" theory is that TOW was, at some point, co-opted by lingering elements from the Kirby era of GW attempting to push Fantasy into a second, and final, grave. Some degree of maliciousness or indifference is the only way to explain the bafflingly poor handing and painfully slow development of a project that was already 80% complete before it even began.
I have very little faith in TOWs ability to exceed in either the short or long term because it appears to me that GW has learned nothing from their original mishandling of Fantasy. It's like they're parading out the corpse of Fantasy just to say "look, it's dead and impossible to revive - please ignore the fact that we've opted to alienate a segment of our player base by telling them their factions are 'out of focus', did nothing to eliminate the god awful resin and metal kits that everyone hates working with, and made absolutely zero efforts to facilitate easy entry points for new players".
I fell in love with WFB in the early 2000s as a preteen, and if TOW turns out great I wish I had infinite time and money to get back into the hobby. Dumping literally thousands into a hobby isn’t really realistic for me now
if money is your issue then get a 3d printer.
11:58 I think you're spot on. This project has definitely been downgraded since its anouncement. (Covid? Ongoing production issues?) I'll be very happy with a specialist design studio release - nice books, smattering of resin characters, a few star plastic redesigns, a core of old models at first. However, there may be a few Total War players expecting a 40k launch box...
The initial announcements were indeed really strange, focusing on new factions (which really should have remained on the periphery, MORE stereotyped humans in the Old World?!) and suggesting entirely new ranges. I think they have ended up looking to the past (or at least i hope so) with the consolidating re-releases of Epic (40,000) and Battlefleet Gothic in the 2000's, which had major (initial) book support but little in the way of minis. Essentially allowing players a first party means to play a 3rd party game, so it's easier to build groups and communities because you've now got new books (hopefully made with love) with a GW badge on them.
If I represent any kind of demographic then there is at least some money for GW to make here. Warhammer (fantasy) was always my main love, but I was a kid so it was only pocket money, I couldn't fund the whole thing myself. But now I am a grown man with a salary and an appreciable percentage of it could belong to GW if they support this properly.
I started with 4th, and the allies rule was my favourite thing (so happy about that being back). 6th was what I played most of and it seems very 6ish to me.
My sincere hope is that this could become big. Of course I dream of it becoming bigger than AoS.
can you discuss AoS in a video again soon?
This week!
My only experience with old world is TW and as much as I would love a Tomb Kings army I'll will be passing on this game but maybe buy a couple cool models idk. If it goes specialty I may get more invested but guess we'll see
I have been away from gaming but the new bretonnians may belting me back :)
Is this 7th or grabage 8th?
All I know is that the models will look FANTASTIC. I hope that they make it so you can use both Sigmar and Old world models in both games - this will help us with Sigmar armies get in quick and expand instead of feeling that we have to create a new 2000pt army with 50 halberdiers
...
If they try to incorporate AOS models people will turn tail running. People despise AOS because it’s nowhere near the fantasy aesthetic. I’d be happier if they just made AOS models and armies playable in 40k. It would make a lot more sense.
@@cameronrich2160 I probably should have specified that for only the appropriate factions and units, like the new empire/"cities" guys, dwarves, dark elves etc. Not the mermaid people or whatever
@@rcdemoral1982GW seems intent on having separate model lines for both systems. Especially with them recently making a lot of Horus heresy models legends in 40k.
It's crazy to me that if it's going to be named and branded "The Old World" that Tomb Kings and Brettonians are what's being put front and center instead of Empire and either Skaven or Vampire Counts as the evil army. Might just be me, but those are the forces I most associate with The Old World of Warhammer.
..but to be fair I'm sure I'm not their target customer...really curious who is though...I wonder if they know?
presumably it's the total warhammer game fans, at least more than they're trying to get the grognards back
I've seen suggestions that the reason for the focus on TK & Brets is that they're two armies which don't have any crossover with Age of Sigmar. So if TOW does take off it won't impact AoS. But given the timeline of the game is supposed to be set during a civil war in the Empire then leading up to a huge war vs Chaos it's weird that the focus is on these two factions instead.
When I got into fantasy warhammer I bought the box set(7th?) and it came with lizardmen and Britonians I was disappointed. I wanted to play Undead. They always kind of missed the mark. Should be buy the rules, buy an army that suits your interest! I built up a sizable Britonian Army, I also have Skaven and Dogs of War! Not looking forward to re basing but hey! If it means I get Fantasy! Bring it on!!
That was 5th edition. And 4th and 5th were the only editions that forced you to buy a starter set.
200$ buy in to all the total war games is nothing compared to the 1000$ that will require new players to buy in start/restart an army ...... this will fail hard and breaks my heart.
It's hard to say, it really depends on what the company's expectations for 'success' is internally.
The fact that it is coming out in the winter and now a big summer release I think is pretty telling that they have lower expectations for sales.
Yeah. I loved Warhammer Fantasy. I was very excited to see the Old World coming. After the preview, I am going to stay on the sidelines, at best.
Why would I buy into GW price gouging over Kings of War? I get all the army stats in the core book, and the game plays faster and smoother.
Kings of War definately has them beat on price! But we can't really say it plays faster and smoother yet as the rules haven't been released!
My go to rank and flank now is Song if Ice & Fire.
I okayed Fantasy from 4th edition till it’s death but it’s very unlikely I’ll leave I&F for Old World.
How did GW screw fantasy up so bad? Not supporting major factions at all, failing to do the obvious power move that was TW Warhammer sooner.
The fact that they didn’t expect TW Warhammer to be a success tells me they didn’t know what they were doing.
So it sounds like Old World is going to be a flop. No plastics means no in-store presence. They've missed the Total War cash in window. Total War 3 has lost its momentum. CA is being restructured to avoid insolvency.
And as an aside. It sounds like the Box deals are the key to building and growing these scenes. It's a massive shame that this HH Battle Force box was a one and done release. I would imagine they could make a killing if they offered a range of semi themed battle force boxes. One with bikes and speeders. One with termies and raiders. One with jump marines and drop pods. A command box with a command rhino, and a couple characters and some 'vets'. A destroyer box!
There's a lot of potential.
Good points! I also wonder if they have considered the shelf 'presence' of a game like the old world if there aren't many new kits. Or maybe they don't care?
GW will greed it up like everything and we will get a lot of new Kings of War player. Love it
Hopefully they'll release some "reasonably" priced army boxsets - like what we get with Horus Heresy
