I mean, I kind of saw even 2018 and 2019 as somewhat cathartic, but 2020 was not fair under any circumstances, I will admit. And yes, I also think that positive COVID test was bull. I have been one of the most outspoken people as far as how I have seen the COVID pandemic play out. I mean, mandating people to wear masks who are already vaccinated? Yeah... I would take people more seriously if they wore the clown makeup and nose.

Video Idea: Top 10 Winless Season in NASCAR History.
So maybe the driver ran very consistent that season and even was a championship contender come seasons end, but they just could not put a whole race together that year to find victory lane. But also, you have to factor in the playoff/chase system as an aid for some of those seasons in recent years. Perfect example, Ryan Newman's 2014 season.

I also think that an argument can be made for Bobby Labonte, as well. He was doing well in 2004 until the final few weeks before the Chase.

After doing some maths, these are how far the drivers would have made the Playoffs from 2014 onwards
2014:Larson makes the Round of 8, but a bad Martinsville race and being punted on the final lap at Phoenix leave him just short of the final 4
2015:Larson makes the Round of 12, but doesn’t get a single Top 20 finish in said round, eliminating him after Talladega
2017:Logano makes the Round of 12, but a poor Charlotte and Kansas leave him eliminated
2018:Newman would have been eliminated in the first round, with consistent runs not being enough to usurp the three-way tie for 12th
2019:Jimmie Johnson would have made the Round of 12, but after an early exit at Talladega, his championship hopes were essentially already over
2020:Jimmie comes just short of making the Round of 12, and is eliminated early
As an alternative to Jr missing the 2016 Playoffs, had Kasey Kahne made it, he would have made the round of 8 and would’ve finished 13th in Points.

About Jimmy, it's hard for drivers to know when they should exit a sport. I think Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace and Terry Labonte all managed to quit full time at the right time. (EDIT: Tony Stewart may qualify IMO here too)
And it's depressing when your driver lingers outside the top 10 every race after they were so strong all career.
