The coupe and the sedan delivery were made in the late 70's/early 80's. The coupe was molded in a maroon color and the sedan delivery in a green color. I had them both as a kid. Another great video.
That's how I recall them, the *Coupe* and the *Sedan* *Delivery* , in those respective colours. IIRC, they were both 'updated' in c.1987 with then-new wheels (not a fan) and tyres (to the wider Good Year Rallye GTs). The coupe has a supercharger; the delivery has the tunnel ram -- not sure if those were "switched" around c.1987. *Great* build up, *Chris* ! Excellent colour choices (I love Ivory on these 1930's vehicles) and tasteful touches (glad that you added Molotow to the running boards' trim).
Very nice job on your 39 Chevy S/D Chris. Love the color combo you used. it looks sweet. You guessed correctly, the barrels are from the beer wagon. This kit was 1st issued in 1978 by Monogram. Kit # 2240 , it was molded in green plastic. Thanks for sharing your build up of this latest issue.

I believe this kit was modified from the 1939 Chevy Lowrider kit. All the same except no beer barrels and Lowrider was a normal sedan with full windows, not the delivery van version. I built Lowrider kit back in 2002.
That is a beautiful looking kit and a beautiful job building it. I really like the colors you chose for the engine. Your videos are my touchstone for serenity whenever I need a break from the world's problems. Always a pleasure to watch.
My uncle had the real car and made it like a rum Runner. He had a bar called Rum Runners and the car was the mascot. The hard part he said was actually getting the barrel for the back. He won a few local shows and many parades.
Great job, Chris! I love those old Monogram kits. I built many of them back in the day and they always went together with few (if any) fit issues. Build on!
I had one of these when I was a young teen modeler, molded in red. I still have bits and pieces of it! haha I will have to get this kit cause I always loved the look of these. Now that I am older I think I can do it justice that my young self couldn't. That's funny... when I first clicked on this video and saw the color I thought A&W Root Beer truck, and then it has root beer decals in it. It really looks like a build most people except for those on Hobby Lobby's reviews could do. Looks great!
Already putting this one on my wish list! It's very reminiscent of AMT's old 1940 Sedan Delivery Ford kit, which is one of the nicer AMT kits I've built over the years.
Nice build Chris!👍 I'm glad to see this one back! I do wish, however, that they had included the wheels/tires from the 1978 ElCamino kit ,(Cragars/60s series tires), as they are more "retro" to the other aftermarket equipment in the kit,(late 60's early 70's). Glad you did the "Cherry bombs". They look great on this kit! My one wish is they would do a two door "Bustle Trunk" sedan body for this series of kits!
I wonder if that is what the second window set is for. The front end goes a good job of lining up to the window frame, but the back is slightly wider than the space of the delivery interior, and the back of the door opening doesn’t line up for this kit. That still leaves what the “moon-eye” windows are supposed to fit…
Absolutely wonderful build & presentation Chris !!! Color choices are spot on and the whiskey barrels push this kit over the top. I will definitely be adding this kit to my must purchase!!
Great updated kit , I have the low rider version of the same kit with some added items. I will still of course pick this one up, love the barrels and decals
Great video Chris. I REALY think you should shoot the "paint segment" in 2 X from now on? It's cool & moves things along nicely! Just my opinion of course. Your way is always good! I dig the music, love the steps. Thanks for the ideas, to use towards my builds. Stay safe!
That answers a few questions that I’d had about the kit. It looks like there was supposed to be another sprue, as well. It seems odd that there was never a plan to include an air cleaner, or the rest of the firewall.
The rear wheels were off center on real cars. It had something to do with the rear shackles. When you added weight to the vehicle, you flatten out the springs. Seeing as the front of the springs were mounted solid, the wheels would be forced back into the center of the wheel well. Oh and for future reference those lights on the bumper are fog lights and should be painted yellow or light amber. Nice job as always 👏 👍
just bought the early release of this kit has lots more chrome trim but doesnt come with 427 big block will keep that in mind and the box art rims tires ect are cool thanks dou scooter d😁
Hundreds of cans. Literally. Also, I never said I 'refuse' to use airbrushes or have anything against them at all. I own three and have used them on past builds for custom colors like Mr Bean's car. But it is funny to me when people say stuff like that. Enjoy!
The red Thrush brand glass pack mufflers are sweet. The swan on the hood - nice choice (real popular in the 1950's). My dad had a Swan hood ornament with plastic wings that lit up. He owned over 150 cars in his life (not all at once - no more that ten at a time). Anyway, he would mount that Swan on his favorite car of the week. Nice touch. I ordered the kit and I'm gunna use the Swan, but I'm wondering about lighting it...
Good color choice. I'm digging it. I built this kit way back in the late 80's. It had different decals and wheels, but it was basically the same kit. Maybe Revell re-did the molds/tooling? Btw, this has "bothered" me a long time: You're not using the panel line wash correct. You're supposed to let it dry, and after it's dry wipe off excess wash. I use a cotton bud and odourless mineral spirits for the purpose. I bet You've read this before, but I had to comment this.
LOL, no one has tried to tell me how to use my black wash before you. There is no 'proper' way to use it. Use it in the way that will give you the results you desire. Thanks for watching.

These are the kinds of kits that I lean towards, now. Clean, clear detail, but a relatively lower part count, with an open invitation to modify. Higher-part-count-kits are challenging to build, but don’t “speak” to me in the same way.

Got the '39 Coupé Street rod. Twice. One is built but suffered chrome loss during its stay in the humid basement of my folks' previous house and the second one is unbuild. Seems the coupé and sedan use the same wheels. Engines are different, hood and body + interior are different. They MIGHT have modded the fender part so that it get from a 2 seater (or was it a full bench?) as to make it a delivery. Was a fun one to build (which is why I have another one), so I guess this one is really fun to build too. The original coupé date from 1979 and what I've found is that the sedan was made in 2005, as a low rider from the coupé' molds (which explain why it use the coupé's wheels, as a low rider, it had lr wheels ) and the kit wasn't re-released between then and the edition you have in your hands. Scalemate still haven't included this release on their kit's history tree page yet. As always, awesome build. Your build would fit well in front of a A&W restaurant diorama.
Addon: Things didn't add up for me, with the Low Delivery being the first edition of the delivery version, so I checked around a little bit more and found out that the ORIGINAL release of that kit was under Monogram in 1978. So, I dunno if there was lots of changes made to the original release along the years before it was released as the version you have. But yeah. This kit's original first release is in '78. Scalemate's pages about the Coupe and the Delivery are not linked to one another, so it's kind of odd. But even on that page, they still haven't updated this edition as a new entry.
