    One correction here that I verified with the owners manual just now. The B mode is not regenerative braking but just engine braking for steep declines! It won't feed the motor anymore than usual. I was told it was regenerative braking awhile ago and never really questioned it, my apologies.

    Your subtitle "Lose Your Ego" says it all.
    I've owned everything from 60's muscle cars to full size pickups used to tow my 5th wheel camper and my 2015 Prius, bought during the Covid Pandemic with the cash from the sale of my HD truck & camper, ,is without question the best car I've ever owned.
    Did it take getting used to? Absolutely, put it in "Power Mode" and it's quite peppy.
    Do I take crap from all my friends ? You bet, but I quit caring what people think a long time ago.
    I recently took it on a multi month, 8,600 mi. trip around the US from Fl to upstate NY to CA and back , and it didn't miss a beat..
    And I saved thousands in gas & motel bills by camping in the "Class P" while enjoying perfect climate control. 🙂

It just looks like a larger sedan and especially if you own a nightshade version of the car, it looks fantastic or especially if you have it in red

    I'm an ex Toyota Tech, since retired and I'm on my fourth Prius with over 1.2 million kms between them. All have been brilliant, reliable and extremely cheap to own and run in every sense. I now own a 2012 plug-in JDM import...same as the others, great car. I almost bought the new model same as the one you reviewed, but deferred until the Gen 5 is released. The things just don't break...and return factory fuel figures well into several hundred thousand. You WILL replace a battery if you keep one long enough, is what it is. 10.5 years is the median failure age, total mileage not so relevant. As for the B mode, with the exception fo the plug-in versions that increase actual regen in EV mode if B is selected, all other standard hybrids simply divert the excess energy by spinning, (not firing) the engine to give the sensation of down shifting on long descents. You are better to lightly touch the brakes, just enough to trigger the brake lights and this achieves maximum regen. B mode will be triggered in the event that the battery is full on a long descent anyway, when the battery is full and there's nowhere for the excess energy to go. Personally I never use it, never have despite living in a mountainous area.

      I have a 2012 prius i own it for 5 and a half year. It drove 206.000 km. In this 5 and a half year i never had any repair costs. Just the standard maintenance at the Toyota dealer. It is indeed very cheap to run. My consumption is 4,2L per 100 km. And i don’t even have to do my best for that. I was looking for a 100% electric car but with these ridiculous car prices I decided to keep my 2012 prius untill the doors fall out

      @@bmccameron7642 lets hope! Because i think we need to drive it for a longer time. Last week my wife and i were looking for a new or secondhand EV. We took the whole day and saw different dealerships. With the new Ev it would be a Private Lease because we have a limit . But all new private lease ev’s started from €500 per month. And 1 year waiting time before delivery. And in that 1 year waiting the can higher the price because of different reasons.. my wife said no I don’t want this. And i also wasn’t feeling good about it. So we decided to look for the secondhand ev. But… there wasn’t much to see! The salesman told us that the secondhand EV market was like the housing market if they had one secondhand EV than it was gone in a day they was to much asking for a Secondhand EV than they can offer. . And if we saw a dealer with a ev than it had a ridiculous price. The salesman said. We can ask what we want. People will buy it anyway. If you don’t do it someone else will today. This was also the case with modern Hybrids. Everyone wants ev’s and hybrids. But the normal gasoline and diesel cars didn’t get attention. They had plenty to offer and nobody looked at them just like us because we wanted a EV. Stepping back from a hybrid to a normal car would be a step back. So in the end of the day we didn’t had ant choice and we decided to stay in the Prius. I was a little disappointed because after 5,5 year i want something else and I really like ev’s but i have to accept it and hope that the Prius will keep driving

    I've owned about 8 brand new vehicles, and 10 used ones in my 40 years of driving, and the most functional, and economical car I've ever owned, was my 2019 Prius LE. So when that got stolen and destroyed a few weeks ago, I went straight out and bought another, without a second thought. If I had all kinds of $$$, I'd buy a RAV4 Hybrid as a second / backup vehicle. But their is nothing else on the market Id even consider for my primary daily driver. BTW, I also make a living with my Prius, and I do cross country trips. Car camping with all night climate control is the best ! :) Love LOVE my Prius :) My new XLE does have the sunroof, and its not that I thought I had to have it, but rather, the one I was able to get, just happened to have it > and its freaking awesome :) Honestly, I wasn't even looking for an XLE, but Im glad I had my arm twisted, as I really like all the upgrades.

    I think the fact that the Prius came out 7 years ago is a plus / benefit. New cars with lots more technology, bigger screens, sensors, etc. they just feel worse and they seem dater quicker. All brands now have digital dashes and most of them suck. I think we are right in a moment where these “simple” cars will disappear and we will only have touch screens for everything. The limited trim screen sucks, it ruins the whole car.

    When you say at the beginning of the review that the Prius was released in 2016, you are just talking about the current generation and not the overall Prius car line that first came out in 1997, correct? It's just the way you worded that made it sound like you were saying the Prius itself was only 6 years old rather than 25 years old. As for the AWD-e, did the dealership check the vin and verify if the rear motor is there or did you and they make the mistake of just thinking it's not AWD-e because it doesn't look like a normal AWD? The Prius AWD-e isn't physically attached at all to the front drive. It uses a separate electric motor that only gets used under certain conditions up to about 42mph. Once you get above 42mph the rear motor turns off again. It also doesn't get used if there is no need for it. Other people have noted that the AWD-e is very situational and doesn't always kick in when the driver thinks it should. The Nightshade edition does come in an AWD-e version, so I have my doubts that Toyota is the one that made a "badging mistake".
    The reason the Insight handles like a Civic is because it uses the Civic chassis. Honda used to also make a Civic Hybrid. They made the decision to drop the previous design of Insight that was more like the Prius, and rename the Civic Hybrid to the Insight. It uses the same chassis, suspension, etc. They only made a few changes to the body to give it a more distinct look, but under the skin, the Insight is a Civic Hybrid.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  2 года назад

      I was talking about this generation of prius. The prius in the US has a recognizable name like the camry or corolla so it never dawned on me that the line would be taken otherwise. Although I usually still specify generation to be clear, idk why I didn't this time. As you can see from the video I put in here (I showed a real awd model and this one side by side), this one does not have all wheel drive. Just because the driveline is not connected as I mentioned in the video I believe, does not mean this doesn't have cv axles going to each wheel. Can't get around that unless you go with a motor on each wheel. I talk about the little 6 or 7 hp unit in this one, watch the video next time so you don't feel the need to write an essay in the comment section!

      @@boomerlife44 More sidewall on 15s, just some added protection so that you don't damage your rims. 17s are still good but if you live somewhere with bad highways, it will be harder to bend a wheel with 15s.

    Nice review, EXCEPT that, no, B Mode is NOT for "increased regenerative braking". It's actually for mild engine compression braking, during which there is NO regenerative braking at all. It's a mostly useless feature really, with little or no benefit in the real world.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  2 года назад

      It seems like something I was told awhile ago and didn't question it. I checked the owners manual on it just now and can confirm it's just engine braking. Which is very useful to saving brakes in the mountains but yeah not something needed for regular driving, I'll post a correction!

      But has much less cargo space and you forget that is still 15 mpg shy of the prius, and way more than that if you consider combined or city mpg. If you need power, the answer is clear, but if not, I'd go prius all day. Especially since I already have another car for fun.
