Survivability on a battlefield is the most important factor. How long will it go in weather extremes? Is it protected from being dismantled and reverse engineered by enemy? What about GSM signal jamming? In real life signals can be jammed or blocked by enemy. Overall the idea is great!
the easiest and most reliable method would be chips that every soldier on the frontline has on his person. This way they can operate on frontlines with human forces and still be able to recognize them. if u take away the human aspect u can simply let every machine communicate with eachother they wouldnt need to detect friends because they are in constant communication and know position anyway so anything they encounter is automatically a foe. the more futuristic way is full AI once AI technology is ready for that kind of responsibility its gonna be the safest to use cause u dont need any communication they would be immune to any kind of signal attack and easier to shield vs electromagnetic attacks too.
@@poco9964 its not that simple xD u can just use a daily changing code or smth like that. plenty of ways to secure frequencies/signals too something physical like a friend/foe chip could be made extremely secure because u got regular access to both the hardware of the chip and the automatic drones u can make the system extremely resilient to any kind of attack on it.
the TheMIS® UGV could be armed with two 25 MM GAU-12/U six-barrel rotary cannon & one .50 Cal HMG . . . both guns mounted on a 360° deg rotating remote weapons station with both thermal & night vision . . . the 0.50 Cal will be modified to shoot aerial such as helos & low flying loitering munitions . . .
honestly these are nice and fancy but the real game changer is gonna be heavy armor fully automated u can use alot thicker armor without crew compartments on tanks and u eliminate a crucial weakness of disabled crew. u could make a smaller, faster and better armored MBT without any weakness that crew brings with it essentially small strike vehicles with big bang that would be able to automatically dodge incoming missiles if its hooked up to a sensor network unlike crew it wont need long to lower its thermal signature, fire countermeasures and dodge the second a javelin etc. is fired.
The armor is not limited by the crew compartment, but by the weight of the armor itself🤦♀️🤦♂️ And even without a vulnerable crew, there is still a lot of mechanism and electronics inside the vehicle that is just as vulnerable if something penetrates the interior
@@klaabu99 Drones do output a heat signature identical to humans, also the Javelin has object recognition, it doesn't target heat sources it targets whatever the operator brackets before firing.
It's not an attack machine. NATO is not Russia, where people and tanks are sent in waves to occupy positions. This robot's forte is gathering intelligence data, evacuating wounded soldiers, and supplying units with ammunition. Destruction and killing are not the main tasks of this robot, it is a secondary feature. NATO units are closely related. Presumably, howitzers will be the main cooperation partners for Themis.
If you want something impervious to a Molotov Cocktail you're going to need something a lot bigger and much more expensive. I've yet to see a medic evacuation team that's impervious to bullets or a logistics supply team that can't be stopped by a grenade. At least with this, you don't lose a human life and sometimes it can be repaired a lost faster than it takes for a wounded solider to be battle ready again. It's safe to say that replacing a lung that's been pierced by a bullet is a lot harder than replacing an engine block.
Life is not a video game. Military units have tried to to around (flank) and sneak up on the enemy since time began. That turret turns around and the camera gives a 360 POV. For some reason you are facing that with a crow bar.

This is just the beginning of this type of military technology. The possibilities are staggering.
It's only weakness is hitchhikers. It's like being in the eye of the storm, as long as you're behind the barrel you're safe
not many hitchhikers on the front line of Battle
These things must be supported by infantry, just like tanks.
They had being spotted in Singapore with our RWS mounting a Frontrunner 50MG & a 40AGL
Drone and UGV combo + infantry= perfect to storm positions
Exactly!
How does the friend-or-foe detection work? That is quite a crucial point in case that thing acts "autonomously"..

If that thing goes berserk, you'll have to send a T-800 to stop it.
I want to say the turret is probably (for now) still human operated, just remotely.
I think it's amazing. Unimaginable
a lot of fully autonomous weapon systems would be needed to defend a tiny area that estonia is
It should have mine detector capability so it can be the spearhead in counter offensive operations.
They will probably equip some that way in the future. It makes sense as a way to reduce risks to human troops.

Return to base? The weapon system will have to be far more resistant to malfunctions if it cannot self clear.
If it has the ability to shoot in a high negative angle it will end trench wars era if it was deployed.

That's going to be hard to do if they're sent in groups or if accompanying footsoldiers, which will often be the case.

Let the robots do the fighting in the front the line people will be hopefully spared.
