      In the Christian church we attend, there are a lot of repetitive prayers. I have to be very careful to still say them with meaning. It is easy to just say the words because they are memorized. Thx for inviting us into your home

      Why are there different prayer requirements for men and women and if you wanted to go to services and pray more could you?

    • @jaroffireflies
      @jaroffireflies  3 года назад +3

      @@mastljn I absolutely could go to the service and pray there if I wanted. Sometimes on Shabbat I do, but rarely. As for different requirements, the extremely nutshell version is that men and women are different, and it’s counterproductive to force us to act identically. There are some good articles about gender in Judaism on the Aish website, and maybe I’ll do a video about this in the future :) It’s a bigger topic than a comment :)

I was wondering if you would ever do a video on what you prepare for shabbat and why? I know you can't prepare food on shabbat, but can you warm it up? If so, are there rules on which ways are okay? I thought I might have heard that "striking a light on" is not allowed, or maybe it is? I would just love to hear how you spend your day of rest.

    I don’t know why I love cleaning videos. I find them so therapeutic and calming. I do tend to clean my house quite a lot in a deep cleaning kind away. For example right now we are living in a rental while we are building our house and I find that when I get anxious I tend to clean the oven inside and out. Scrub toilets and showers and floors as if I am being graded on it. The house that I’m in currently has two ovens and I’m very happy about that however we don’t have two refrigerators here. But, the remodel will have two ovens and two dishwashers and two refrigerators all in one kitchen space. I just feel like it would make everything simple.

    Kugel is dessert! I totally hear you. I grew up with potato and noodle kugels. As an adult, it was a new world to me when I visited families who were serving what appeared to be a dessert with their meals. But it was called a kugel, so it was served with the meal. Little did I know that a few years later, I would be serving apple or carrot cakes... er kugels at my table during the main meal on occasion.
    With Rosh Hashana coming up, do you think I can get away with serving a "honey kugel" at my table? 🤔

You see, I am a born again believer in Christ but I believe God brought me to you, not to convert to Judaism but to see your dedication to your faith and to your family. I have been slothful in studying the Word of God and in prayer time with God. But watching your videos have been very inspiring to me and gave me encouragement to do what I need to do to draw closer to God. I love how there are different prayers for specific things, times of day etc. That on top of the other specific routines you have to do, I just really like the discipline and the rituals. Do they ever feel like a chore though? I can imagine it being difficult and exhausting when you are super busy, or the children need attention, or you're ill..... (of course your love for your religion is worth all the effort)
    I do have a very weird question though, as you all live by kosher rules in terms of what food you eat does that apply to what foods you can actually own and handle too so does Bella have to have kosher food too as she lives with you? (yes I know it's a daft question but I'm intrigued by the rules) Also in terms of pets, are there any animals you cannot keep, I.e those considered not kosher to eat.

    • @jaroffireflies

    Hey Chana, loved the video; it was very informative as usual, thank you! I love finding out more about your religion, because, while I am not religious myself, I find it extremely interesting to learn about the different beliefs from the people who really do practice. Honestly, I think I would really struggle with respecting the Shabbat, because working full time, that is the only time I have to actually clean up the house, do laundry and so forth. I do wonder this though: considering that you are not supposed to do any type of "job" on Shabbat, what do you do after you finish eating? I know... silly question, but I imagined myself and our family (well two humans, a cat and a dog): if we left the dishes out on the table, you can bet that our adorable Newton (the dog) would find his way to them and act as a dishwasher (most likely breaking something of course). And you have a dog too! Can you explain a little more from the practical point of view how you deal with "every day struggles" or "every day regular things" that you cannot really do on Shabbat? Thank you!

    • @jaroffireflies
      @jaroffireflies  3 года назад +3

      I can’t dive too far into the practical aspects of Shabbat in this comment (it would be a novel!) But to answer about the dishes, yes I can clear the table and I can hand wash anything we need to use at a later time on Shabbat :)

    Coming here from today's video, not sure if you'll see this :) If you prayed the rosary or other ritualized prayers growing up, do you see any similarities? (I'm Protestant but pray the rosary sometimes and resonated with some of what you said about really knowing the words on different levels - and for me, to get to a part I know by heart but that resonates in a new way given my current circumstances is really lovely.) Also, what do you do if you get interrupted by your kids, Bella, a ringing doorbell, etc.? I know many Christians who just pause and later pick up where they left off, but have Muslim friends who do not interrupt prayers for anything other than an emergency, and am curious how you might do it! Thanks for this Q&A.
