  • Some rather poor quality 8mm film I shot in the 1960's.
But seems to be rare footage of this location.

I used to live out that way 30 years ago. I remember back in the 1960s the crossing gates on the causeway and that low road underpass to avoid the crossing when the gates were shut. Im sure as well I recall a diesel loco shunter or something but I was quite little at the time.
If only there was more footage available.
I never looked closely at the old station when I was older even though I had a fascination for this branch line. Not even sure if its still there.
    👍👍👍

At least they used, the retained, Railway Viaduct as part of the By Pass. I remember 2 Pubs called the Jolly Sailor, both next to the River but on opposite sides. Now Maldon is 3 or 4 times as big. I lived there, first house I bought, over 40 years ago. Station was a Pub and a Nightclub. Not too far from where Jeremy Bamber, GUILTY, murdered 5 people purely for Drug Money.

Something really sad about a derelict railway.

The line West towards Witham had many tiny bridges, wood, and probably these were never safe. Near by, at Hatfield Peverel was the Thomas Crapper Pub. Best Fireworks display from BOATS on the River Blackwater firing across the Saltings. Maldon Sea Salt started by the Romans.
