I'm not sure what is unique about the oil pastels, but that paper made from rocks definitely deserves a place on a list like this. I've been intrigued ever since I head about it!
OMG, I just bought Dura Lar paper about a week ago, but haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet, I am anxious to see someone use it, I have never heard or watched an artist use it or talk about using it. I found it by chance, while browsing for different art papers, and it looked cool, so I bought it.
For me, the supply I got hooked on was handmade watercolors. They’ve got something different and special about them, and to top it off, you find such unique colors! I have a brown that granulates to blue and it’s my most unique paint, got it from a Thai seller on Etsy
Good video, I would love to see you use some of these products! Especially the Golden Open acrylics, and the Dura Lar paper, and the Baohong paper, and the Yupo paper, and the Roman Szmal paints - I've never used them, but viewed videos with swatches, and they look beautiful. The oil pastels would be interesting to watch also, so I guess I would like to see you use all of these products you mentioned. When expressing what I wanted to see you use, I did so in the same order as my preference, the first being the most, and so on.
Baohong 100% cotton watercolor paper is quite well known now and it comes in two forms: artist and academy. Since they are both 100% cotton I don’t know the difference apart from price! Roman Szmal watercolors are also well known now too. He has recently brought out half pans available on Jackson’s. 😊
@@shadowguard3578 Yes! And there is a price difference and imho, its not really worth it. Maybe if you were doing commissions? But I feel the academy is also perfectly acceptable for cimissio s aswell. If you just wanted the best to the best though. The price is similar to arches whereas the academy is the price of a lot of cellulose papers. Its the best bang for you buck, I believe. But I'm sure the price is going up if it hasn't already. Also I want to note that I didn't love the hot press in the full sheets. Or half sheets? I can't remember which I bought but they were strange. I got a smaller block of 5×7 and it was fantastic so idk 😐 🤔. Cold press is always great though no matter the size
@@kathyhackney7950 thank you for recounting your experience with the different papers. I don’t see myself purchasing Baohong artist paper due to price. I have a small block of cold press Baohong Academy paper (8.3 inch by 5.9 inch). It’s the first block I’ve ever purchased and I’m very happy using it. After it’s finished I’ll purchase another larger block of academy paper.
I did not know that Baohong may be the same paper that Etchr uses for its general watercolor sketchbooks. I have some HP and CP Etchrs and a few smaller pads of the Baohong, so I should compare them when I get home. I first got Baohong, amusingly, when they were sold under Meeden, which is a sorta "generic" for some art supplies on Amazon. I love Stillman and Birn! I bought a few of different sizes and series a few years ago, and it's only because I take forever to get through sketchbooks and I intend them for travel that I haven't gotten to them much. I love a pocket one I have started for small trip sketches and will use for day-to-day sketches. It'd have more in it if I hadn't lost it in the mess of my rooms (I found it, obviously). Good luck on getting through your stash! I'm with you! 😆
OMG, that is why I turned to watercolor because acrylic paint dried too fast. But watercolor is very hard to control, I do love it though, but would love to try slow drying acrylics, I didn't even know they existed. I actually didn't even watch your video yet and am only less than two minutes in, but got so excited I started to write this as soon as you mentioned and held up the GoldenOpen paints. I had to pause the video, because I can't write while someone is talking, but I probably should have watched the whole video first, so I could comment on the actual content. So Yeah, I'm gonna do that now. I'm so excited about this product, I hope it's good!
hahahaha "I can't find it anywhere, but I found the receipt", I felt that waaaay too much. Ooh that easel! My favourite new supplies are an excellent brush rest (holds 5 brushes horizontally) and a small travel mixing pan with six wells from Studio of M.M. I absolutely cannot now imagine my watercolour painting set-up with out them.
I like the Stillman and Birn Alpha! Same color and heavyweight like Beta, but with more paper at a slightly lower GSM. So it's still able to take wet media, but also dry medias!
Mineral paper is in my wish list in time... is a mistery... there's only one place in the world, one brand in Japan that make it... in Spain only by Amazon can I found it... It's expensive and I always have another supplies that to expend money... but... I'll get it think soon... Thanks! you always interesting★ Kind regards from Barcelona♥︎
wow! that mineral paper sounds cool. I have a tabletop easel but it doesn't have the sizing bar. but I do love how sturdy but lightweight it is. I'm able to put it on my small bed traytable without it hurting the table - though I do put a drying mat under so it doesn't scratch it
Happy New Year! This is a grand idea! I have a lot of art supplies that are sitting around, that I need to be using. Might have to put them in a random generator and chose a material to work with each day. I’m addicted to the Roman Szmal paints, I think I have about 60 colours now (not that I needed all of them, but they were cheap at Jackson’s (more expensive at Gwartzmans)). I thought Etchr used Fabriano paper in their sketchbooks. I guess I’ll go looking for the Baohong paper now lol! Keep creating 💜💙💛
Golden Open paints are the best!
I'm not sure what is unique about the oil pastels, but that paper made from rocks definitely deserves a place on a list like this. I've been intrigued ever since I head about it!
I agree, those pastels are very common and not unique
I looooovvvveeee the mineral paper!!

I've done some color pencil on the duralar - used both front and back side. lot of fun
You always give us great ideas; TY
Roman Smazls are incredible

Oooo that sounds amazing!
me too, the experience just feels different and the hand mulled paint usually has nice texture / granulation
The Pental pastels are actually really good, although I believe that they are not lightfast, but not sure.
The roman szmal paints, are my favorite paints. They are so special, and I've used all the major brands.
There's also a translucent matte Dura-Lar film too, it's really nice, but now I'm curious about getting the transparent one!

I want to try the rock paper, also the dung paper. its interesting to see what is being done with different base materials to get paper in the end
I love your glasses! ❤ what brand are they and where did you get them?
Thanks! I got mine from a local glasses shop but they’re the Andy Wolf 5086 glasses.

I’m assuming there is a price difference between Baohong Artist and Academy paper. 😀
The artist grade comes out a bit more vibrant. The academy is still absolutely amazing though. 🔥
@@kathyhackney7950 so there really is a difference between the two. Thank you for letting me know.

This video aged very well. All of those are so known today, exept maybe the easel

I have those pentel pastels too! I wish I could afford better quality pastels, but for my budget and skill they're ok.

Pan pastels!
Check out Danette's easels if yr looking for a turntable style you can carry anywhere.
To make acrylic paint dry a lot slower, just add some water based lubricant.
This comment is going to live rent-free in my head for the rest of my life 😂😂
Hey, where have you gone?
I don't think baohong is in etchr tbh. The 300 gsm is fabriano artistico
I've got those oil pastels and they smell so bad I don't like using them. I hope you have more joy
