This has been around for years with services like Open Signal. This really isn't anything new, just brings some additional features that other crowd-sourced maps don't offer. Also, Open Signal gets a lot more defined than this. A quadrant on Open Signal is a little larger than my house. A quadrant on this service is my entire 900 house neighborhood. Which isn't really helpful at all, because my cellular connections and speeds change vastly within my own neighborhood when I drive through and go on walks. Hell, there are even times my connection is strong enough to open my garage door through my phone when I'm 300 ft from my house, but not in my own driveway. So while this map means well and has good intention behind it, having the quadrants be so large just continues the issue that we have with coverage maps. It's going to give me data that is inaccurate to a particular location where I commonly use my phone.
@Stetson Doggett When my Visible+line gets 5G UW at home the downlink seems to be upwards of 20 MBPS down with 20 MBPS usually being the lowest speed but the uplink being stuck usually at or around 10 MBPS or up. Oddly It may be dual connectivity though switching between 5G and 5G UW seems seamless with Verizon so far. Thankfully the uplink is good on both 5G and 5G UW in home since 2G would not be good for FaceTime calls especially since FaceTime over Comcast Xfinity WIFI makes me sick.
@@the_indie_army the problem with apps like open signal and npref is that they only show vague information similar to the carrier maps. You can’t click on a location to see the user submitted results like you could with root metrics.

Thank you Trevor and Stetson. I live in rural Northern Calif. and I had a difficult time trying to T-Mobiles coverage map, it s as if they were trying to keep it hidden. So thank you.
Hello, AT&T employee here! Through some testing of my own I've discovered that an iPhone on unlimited premium (the highest 5G plan AT&T currently offers) does not connect to 5G+. However, an Android phone like the S22 Ultra on the same plan does connect to 5G+ and has significantly faster speeds.
I have a ton of family in michigans upper peninsula and theres not a lot of people out there so thats cool to see some folks out there in the sticks watch ur vids or know about the project
This is awesome! A road trip feature that allows you to upload or plan a route would be a very welcomed addition. Driving around 1,200 miles soon (to Colorado funnily enough) and I’m worried about cell service through more barren parts of Texas and New Mexico.
I'm just really glad that I subbed to your channel. Simple and straight to the point, with clear concise information. You have helped me in the last year with cellphone related things. Thank you kind sir. Also, thank you Trevor!

I’ve tried other speed tests and they come out pretty much with the same results, but I can’t wait to give this one a try. Thank you Stetson and Trevor for all your hard work.
@@helainefossier it works great for me when I travel through Mandeville. Do you have a 5G device? I have an iPhone 13 and have their unlimited elite plan. I find coverage somewhat spotty in parts of Madisonville and Covington. It works great for me in Mandeville.

This is a great resource that should have been provided by the Network Service Providers themselves. I work for a network provider in Japan and it is an industry standard practice to actually use simulations to publish their coverage maps, and even when they are from collected data, an area is considered covered if the user can connect to the cell tower regardless of their coverage strength from the position.
YOOOO WHAT?! This is AMAZING! Thanks for all of your hard work you two! This will help me so much in deciding if I stay with Verizon or switch to T-Mobile or AT&T.
Or just switch to Visible by Verizon to save a lot of money. It still gives the premium experience on Verizon's ultra wideband network. When you use a friend code, 3P7W7QJ, you’ll get your first month of service for $20-off.
@@YurLord or… Not. Even Visible’s data speeds are limited on high traffic times, especially in a massive metro area where I live. I’d rather pay the premium to be at the top of the queue.
@@justinh.2778 the Visible+ plan gives you 50 GB of premium priority data on nationwide 5G and 4G LTE just like Verizon's Do More and Play More plans. On 5G UW it is unlimited premium priority data. Last month I used over 500 GB of data on this plan. It was great. It's only $35 a month if you sign up in March plus the $20 friend code is stackable. So $15 the first month.
Thank you Trevor, and thank you Stetson, you guys are awesome. As someone deep into the IT world, knowing that these companies provide false hope and maps this is fantastic.
I found multiple problems with this setup.. First, to really show coverage, you need to have something that can monitor stuff as you go.. Do a speed test, walk a block, do a speed test, walk a block, and repeat.. Yea, that will get really old really fast.. and the problem is, You can do a speed test at one end of the block, and get 4 bars, go to the other end of the block, and get 1 bar.. But this setup puts both in the same block, and also, the same coverage and speeds, even if they are completely different. Time matters.. You will get significantly faster speeds at 2am then you will during the lunch rush.. My point is, if the person that did the test did it at 2am, you could be left to believe that the area gets 300 megs down, but when you go to do a zoom call at 12:30pm, you might only get 4 megs down due to congestion. To give a good example of these things.. I just did a speedtest at 7:15pm.. On 5G I got 332.3 megs down and 14.4 megs up. But I only got 21.1 megs down, and 30.6 up on 4g.. The test down previously, just 3 blocks away, they say that the average is 82.7 megs down, and 4.56 megs up (with their max speed being only 8.75 megs up) on 4G.. To note, I am on a Metro line through T-Mobile, which is de-prioritized.. So if I was on the actual postpaid account through T-Mobile, my service would be faster.. So since your map does not distinguish between top priority lines, like postpaid, and de-prioritized lines, like prepaid or from MVNO services off of the T-Mobile towers, then even if they have the good service available, you may only get those speeds on postpaid accounts.. With AT&T and Verizon, they have little to no dedicated 5G.. This means, one tower, and it shares the same bandwidth between both, 4 and 5G customers.. So basically, you will get about the same speeds on both.. On the other hand, T-Mobile does not do this.. So it is possible to get 500 megs down on 5G, but only 20 megs down on 4G.. But I have seen other places where I got 100 megs down on 4G and only 10 megs on 5G, because they only had low band for 5G in the area.. No info about where the towers are at.. I use Cell mapper to check coverage.. It is also crowd sourced.. It may not tell you speeds, but it can tell you where you will get 1 bar, and where is 5 bars of coverage.. Also, unlike this app, it constantly monitors cell coverage by doing a data point every so many seconds.. and it is done automatically.. And if the info is there, it can tell you how fast the tower is capable of in download speeds, along with where all the towers are at.. I bring this up because, checking this crowdsourced map (which ironically gets is signal strength info from the FCC), says that in one area in my town, there is no 4G coverage in an area.. And right in the middle of it, is a tower that has been in use for over 10 years.. But yea.. No coverage according to your info.. This is why you do signal strength from real world info and not something that comes from the FCC, which got their info from the companies.. No actual customer user info.. I also think the "best" option is very limited.. It says best, but if only one carrier has had tests done in that area, they could be labeled as "best", even if they are actually the worst.. Because the best is the only one that has actually had a test done, so nothing to compare it to. So far, not impressed.. Not living up to your hype..
Wow, this is potentially huge. Actual independent, crowd source, real time data to call out the bs of these carriers.

@@StetsonDoggett Hi! I wanted to upload my tests but can’t find about getting a pro anywhere. Can you please share the link how to receive pro for accounts with over 100 tests?
@@disgpd Hey Dmitriy! We changed it so all Pro features are now free for everyone! No 100 tests needed. :) You can read more here -coveragemap.com/news/all-map-features-now-free
Thank you Trevor and Stetson for this insightful video.
The map from the carrier can't be trusted!
This is great I can't wait to check the actual coverage for my home, big thanks guys!
This simple map has a lot of potential. Great job. I could see law enforcement using something like this to track border crossing and stuff like that.
Best way for this to take off is to put it in an app and with the network speed test option right there and market it just as it is but also to check for your coverage before you go places and stuff, might want to include the default carrier maps in there too just to pad the coverage until you fill out your ‘better map.’ Thanks Trevor 👍. Crazy how much info there carriers have and can’t make a map accurate to levels like this.
Much needed in this day and age. Huge thank you to Stetson and Trevor for this!!
There should be a way to sue them for false advertisement
This is sooo cool. I work for a company selling phones inside Walmart and I’m absolutely sharing this with my coworkers! Thank you Trevor!!
The us still doesn’t have real 5G network please.
Thank you Trevor! I'm so happy to see this project come to fruition!
You and me both, Matthew! So excited the map is here!
Thank you Trevor and Stetson! I just uploaded 1,405 tests. Does it filter out previous uploaded tests or do we have to delete the old tests to keep uploading? 😀
The map automatically filters out duplicate tests!
@@StetsonDoggett 😎
Thank you both!
Hey man! It’s been a while! How has your 2023 going, Stetson?
Hey Debopop! It's been a full schedule over here. Super excited to be launching CoverageMap.com in 2023, and can't wait for what's next 😄
@@StetsonDoggett can’t wait til there’s a mobile app
Thank You, Trevor. That makes more sense what the cellular speed download and upload look like. Thanks, Stetson Doggett.
One question with this, if I run speed tests with speedsmart, and the test automatically fills in a hexagon before I upload my csv - I will miss out on the bonus because there’s no way to associate the speedsmart tests with my map account, right?
The only way to avoid this would be to upload csv after every speedtest it seems
There is about a 1 week delay between when tests are run and when we get SpeedSmart data. So you should be fine to earn points!
Thanks man, means a lot that you've put something like this together! Trevor, I see you too man back there putting in those hours! absolute legend
He copied Speedtest they been doing it longer than him
Thank you Stetson and Trevor for creating this. It’s what we’ve been waiting for!!!
Our pleasure, Hunter!
Ayee Colorado ! My AT&T service used to be terrible in Broomfield but it’s actually improved in the last few months.
Thanks, Trevor!
This is a revelation in the area of mobile data! Crowdsourcing as a whole is super interesting and I love this application! Can't wait to see where it goes in the future!
This information is SOOOOOO useful, that I'm becoming Pro IMMEDIATELY!! Thanks to you, we're helping each other!!! Avoiding BS... Thank youuuuuuu!!!! 🙏🏻❤✌🏻
THANK YOU, TREVOR!!!! 🙏🏻🙌🏻🤗🌹
This ROCKS! I'm glad you mentioned digital nomads.
I would love to see an option for StarLink (maybe turned off by default).
I would GLADLY pay for a standalone app with offline/auto-download map features.
Congrats Stetson! Just downloaded the app and will be contributing with my visible wireless speed tests.
Thank you Trevor honestly. I have been experiencing a lot of places on the actual carrier map aren’t accurate at all. This will really help!
My man just started a GIS mapping site for cell coverages. Dude, You hit a game changing home run with this.
This is why Waze is so great. Users contribute to it and deliver honest facts about areas instead of the company doing it themselves.
Great work, Stetson.
This is great!!! I was really disappointed when ookla retired the root metrics map but this map looks better! Thank you guys :)
Thank you SO much for this, Trevor & Stetson! Planning on testing my ENTIRE town in the ADKs to *finally* prove once and for all that AT&T's service sucks. Been getting sick of not being able to make a phone call in my Mom's house and she's tired of paying $400/month for service we can barely use. Hopefully this will give my neighbors a better idea of what AT&T is like for them.
If I had a newer phone with eSIM, I would love to shame Verizon & T-Mobile too. Hoping someone else can put in the same effort for Teams Pink and Red as I've done with Team Blue.
How many lines you got
Thank you Trevor and Stetson. I live in rural Northern Calif. and I had a difficult time trying to T-Mobiles coverage map, it s as if they were trying to keep it hidden. So thank you.
The effort alone deserves a subscription! 🎉
I'm moving to the USA by the end of the month, this will definitely save my life when choosing a mobile carrier
My first time trying this coverage map I'll use it for when I'm at college campus or find out great signal around in my area. Thanks Stetson
This is awesome! A road trip feature that allows you to upload or plan a route would be a very welcomed addition. Driving around 1,200 miles soon (to Colorado funnily enough) and I’m worried about cell service through more barren parts of Texas and New Mexico.
Awesome job! Thank you Trevor!!
Thank you Trevor! Absolute genius!!!
Trevor is a legend in my book. I hope this service gets a stronger and global recognition.
Thank you Trevor. I have joined and started helping the community!
This will be so helpful! Thank y'all so much Stetson & Trevor!
Thanks, Trevor. This eliminates the marketing fluff from the carriers.
Thank you, Stetson & Trevor!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. We travel for work and this is greatly needed because we need to marl off certain things in our travels
Thank you Trevor! This is a really cool project. Can’t wait to contribute!
Wow I live in a area where 5g cuts off a few blocks away from me and you’re map shows it! Amazing
I'm just really glad that I subbed to your channel. Simple and straight to the point, with clear concise information. You have helped me in the last year with cellphone related things. Thank you kind sir. Also, thank you Trevor!
I love how all the maps completely avoid Nebraska
Well done Stetson! This is so impressive, proud of your hard work buddy, nice job!
Thank you, Cyrus! I truly appreciate it!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This is the kind of app I’ve been waiting for. I’ve commented before on your videos and I’m so impressed on how much work you do on gathering all the information for all the carriers plans, prices, etc. I live outside of New Orleans and coverage here can be very spotty with my AT&T. I’ve tried other speed tests and they come out pretty much with the same results, but I can’t wait to give this one a try. Thank you Stetson and Trevor for all your hard work.
Metairie, Kenner, WestBank, Luling, Northshore, all now have a good bit of mid band, 5G+.
@@TJ-22 how is it though? I’m in Mandeville. We are supposed to have it, but it’s not good if we do have it.
@@helainefossier it works great for me when I travel through Mandeville. Do you have a 5G device? I have an iPhone 13 and have their unlimited elite plan.
I find coverage somewhat spotty in parts of Madisonville and Covington. It works great for me in Mandeville.
@@TJ-22 I have an iPhone 13 Mini. My coverage seems spotty and I also have the AT&T Elite plan.
@@helainefossier Okay. The areas that I went through were Highway 22 near Beau Chene, West Causeway approach, and Highway 190.
I was pleasantly surprised to pick up 5G+ in those areas, but I guess only parts of Mandeville has mid band. I didn’t connect to 5G+ in Slidell either.
This is amazing. Thank you to everyone involved
You’re amazing bro 😎 Boots on the ground & putting in that work
Thank you, Trevor!
I've literally been wanting a tool like this to see how coverage is on a road trip!!! So awesome
Thank you Trevor! Already uploaded my speed from my culdesac, can't wait to help spread free universal knowledge and data for all.
Wow its good to have people like you
Thank you, Trevor! This is truly heads above anything I've seen.
Great service and community as a beta tester for CMAP
With love, From Miami! Thank you Trevor!!!
Thank you Trevor! And thank you Stetson for the video!
This is awesome! Thank you Trevor ⚡🏎️
Finally we needed this years ago!!
I use this for work to show accurate real live data and its amazing!!!
Thank you Trevor!
@@YurLord oh I use WAY more than 50GB a month bud.
@@justinh.2778 yeah, I used 500 GB on my phone last month on Visible+. That's a lot more than 50 GB. Do you have a strong 5G UW build in your market?
Thank you Trevor, and thank you Stetson, you guys are awesome. As someone deep into the IT world, knowing that these companies provide false hope and maps this is fantastic.
This is genuinely awesome. I paused to download the app and then finished the video.
This is awesome!!! Thanks for the hard work you put into this! We all appreciate it
This is awesome! Thanks guys! And thanks Trevor!!!
T-Mobile , AT&T, Verizon beautifully done
Awesome work on this extraordinary tool!! By far the most user-friendly and precise way to show this data.
Also, hope you are doing well! 😊😊
I appreciate the kind words, Jason! I hope you're doing well, too! 🙌🏻
