When the series ended. Betty white was 70 and Bea Aurthur (Dorothy) was just shy of 70. Estelle Getty (Sophia) was a year younger turning 69 that year. Rue (Blanche) was only 58 when the series ended after 7 seasons.
I was enjoying your robust laughter on these. This show is every bit as funny as you find it. The writing on this shoe was exceptional and the actors brilliant. Even after 40 years they make me laugh, and some scenes, are still so funny I can't breathe. I have that same love and experience with 'The Cosby Show" which was on TV at the same time but started around a couple years before Golden Girls. These two shows are my all-time favorite sit-coms. They are vastly different in tone and subject matter but both absolutely hilarious, with great actors and great stories.
I never get tired of watching this show. It is so funny and my natural anti-depressant from all the laughs. It wasn't until I was in college watching Lifetime at night where I found out about this show. I remember my mom and grandmother watching this show back when I was a kid. Wasn't interested then but now, OMG the things they said for that era. We need more sitcoms like this and less reality TV!
Actually, Bea Arthur was in her sixties when she was filming, so Dorothy is at least ten years younger than her actress. And Blanche constantly lies about her age, so you can't go by her.
I think the ones that played Dorothy, Rose and Sophia were in their 60s during this series. And the one that played Blanche was in her 50s. And as someone else stated, Bea Arthur (Dorothy) was older than the one that played her Mom, Sophia (Estelle Getty) by a year.
The reason why Sophia was in black was because her grandson (Dorothy's son Michael) had slept with Rose's daughter Bridgid in that episode "Family Affair. " She was offended by what Michael did and basically claimed her grandson was "dead" to her. Hense the mourning clothes. He had to do a proper apology and ask for Sophia's forgiveness before she would accept him as her worthy grandson, again. It was very funny but Sicilians take that kind of thing seriously.
LOL Hilarious! Definitely, check out the whole series. The episodes with Dorothy's deadbeat ex-husband Stan are especially side splitting in my opinion.
May God rest these Wonderful Ladies who brought me personally, the laughter I needed then and now! God bless our hosts here on this awesome channel! And ta all Ya'll around the 🌎! Execpt for all the 💩 heads out there hurting innocent people! Ms. Tasha, gorgeous and sweet as always🫂! Mr T, good on ya brother from another Mother! Mad shout outs ta both! Thank ya for all your hard work!✌️🙏🫂👍❤️🐍
In that episode Dorothy's son and Rose's daughter slept together while visiting. Sophia was wearing a black veil as if she was mourning her grandson's soul for doing such a sinful thing.
Back in they day when people reach a certain age they dress older. But in this day and age, people are looking younger, dress better, and more self conscious in self care. Like Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Angela Bassett, Angelina Jolie, etc….
@@JadeK297It’s not just Botox. There’s a great video that shows what the Golden Girls would look like with modern hairstyles and that one change makes them look so much younger.
after Dorothy told the woman in the cell she did time in Attica, Blanche and Rose took her aside and marveled at how well she handled the situation, Dorothy replied, 'Well, I work in the public School System, it's really not that different from this.'
Rose: I'll get the cheesecake. Blanche: I'll get the whip cream. Sophia: I'll get the Polaroid, we're going to have to grease the doorways to get you out of here. Dorothy: MA you don't have a Polaroid. Blanche: I'll get mine, it's under my bed, I have to go in there for the whipped cream anyway.
With the exception of Rue, the other three gals were born in 1922, so were already in their early 60’s when the show ended. Rue (Blanche) was 10years younger.
Try some Australian comedy, if you dare. Police Officers by Super Wog or Randy Buys A Bookshelf Off Gumtree, are good starts. Gumtree is the Australian equivalent of Craig's List. Other Americans love these.
The only reason they got away with some of these jokes and storylines is because they were senior citizens. If the show had been about 20 somethings, the censors never would’ve let the show air. In fact it was the first ever US sitcom to do a skit about condoms.
And if memory serves the one playing Dorothy was a Marine... Car shows in the military some way shape or have memory serves.... I believe she a big woman and she kind of scary I'll be afraid 😹
Sophia was in all black because her grandson slept with roses daughter in blanches bed, so she was upset about it, and declared he was dead to her and she mourning him All these clips were from the same episode in the first half.
If you watch old game shows from the 50's and 60's like "What's My Line" some of the sexual comments would shock you! Or just watch the 70's game shows like "Match Game" with host Gene Rayburn, the Hollywood Squares, or the "Dating Game"!!!
This show has been off the air for over 3 decades but WILL remain the most incredible sitcoms in history.

Rose is the child who asks “why?” all the time 😂😂😂

T cracking up is making these clips even funnier. Also Tasha you are so pretty.
"I'm Blanche and, I know it's not pertinent at the moment, but I'm double jointed."

😂😂😂😂😂😂I can’t get enough of those ladies 😂😂😂😂😂😂Golden girls still rocks 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I love how much T enjoyed this one. The laughter and clapping made me so happy. Loved this one!
7:06 Dorothy: "GuRrrRRRLssSSS!!" 🤣🤣🤣

I have a Golden Girls coffee mug that has blanche on it that says that line "Quiet you trash!" haha
They had the best comic timing ever!!!

I just can't. You two are just SOOOO cute 🥰

What a beautiful couple! Keep-on-keepin on😊

What's shocking isn't that you made TV like that back then, but that you don't anymore
Actually to make a correction about their ages, all of the ladies were in their late 50's to early 60's when the show first started.
For perspective of difference in aging: During filming of Golden Girls Rue McLanahan was the same age as JLo the year she performed at the Superbowl
1:32, the guy there is Dorothy's son and firstborn. He's a musician
scott jacoby?
@samanthanickson6478 I think that was the actor's name. But he does play Michael, Dorothy's son
When the show started, Golden girls Blanche was actually 49 years old. She was actually the youngest by the second season. She was in her '50s
She's my favorite lol.
In that episode Dorothy's son and Rose's daughter slept together while visiting. Sophia was wearing a black veil as if she was mourning her grandson's soul for doing such a sinful thing.

You mean more Botox and fillers 😂. Back then they didn’t mind aging naturally.

When Rose says, "She's in there." I lose it every time. That's my favorite episode. 😂😂😂
"Really, Columbo?"

The guy in the second scene was Dorothy's son, Michael.
God, I miss this show.
Menopause is a beast but yeah I’m so glad all that shit is over
this show was the best, still watching it because there was no bs ect
It's pretty wild to think that at that time Blanche was roughly the same age as JLo now!
RIP to all of them❤
Still hanging in there 💜
Good stuff ya'll lol It's not trending, but omg it would be so fun watch ya'll watch episodes of Third Rock From the Sun. It's a wild ride XD
Gotta remember 1985-92 being an actress at 50 was different. The goal of the show life and sex dont end when youre single and "old"
You gotta find the compilations of Rose's St Olaf stories.
The herring circus is hilarious.
You guy's really to check out Mr and Mrs Roper from Three's Company. Very funny show
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 classic 😊
Try some Australian comedy, if you dare. Police Officers by Super Wog or Randy Buys A Bookshelf Off Gumtree, are good starts. Gumtree is the Australian equivalent of Craig's List. Other Americans love these.
That boy was Dorothy's son :)
Dorothy was actually older than Sophia...

It kinda bothered me that they made the 'Southern' one the ho 🤣
lol hahahaha 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 hell naaaw
And if memory serves the one playing Dorothy was a Marine... Car shows in the military some way shape or have memory serves.... I believe she a big woman and she kind of scary I'll be afraid 😹
Not a cruise.

All these clips were from the same episode in the first half.
The characters were in their 50s, tree if the actors were actually in their 60s
They weren’t in their 50’s lol
They were in their 60’s. Not 50’s.
Definitely looks older than 60’s today. But still. They were in their 60’s.
80s was a bit different, half the popular shows from the 80s would NEVER get on the air today?

The characters these women played were not in their 50s. The "Golden" years start at 60.
