I think we have wait 5 years before we can make a clear decision. Many thing can happen during the 5 years of driving. Bells and whistles might be a great first impression but the reliability is very important. Some models Hyundai and Kia have considerable rates of engine fire. Despite Hyundai and Kia have denied any problem, investigation has started. Until Hyundai have a record of great reliability, I would go with more reliable cars.

@@geebro May be. Your experience is just one case. More data is needed to conclude that Honda is slipping. Hyundai and Kia are investigated by the US government agency for possible engine problems.

I love how companies compete with each other in any field not the cars only. The creativity and inventions they made to enhance our life experience is just awesome ❤ despite they drain our pockets 😂
One advantage of being late to the party is that you get to see what everyone else is wearing. The Pilot is a VERY good vehicle. Honda does an excellent job of designing and packaging their offerings but KIA (and its sibling Hyundai) have been knocking it out of the park for several years and according to this (EXCELLENT) detailed comparison that continues with the Telluride. Full disclosure. I own a 2018 KIA Sorento, my second, and I love it for its overall size (189"), its extremely efficient allocation of interior space, and its upscale features in the SX-L trim. I chose it over the Pilot last year and I'd still select it over either the Pilot or the Telluride this year based on my family's priorities. (But that's a different comparison.) Having said that, I'd add a few quibbles and kudos for points raised in the review. () Price. I realize that reviewers have to stick to MSRP comparisons but in my experience there's more than a small advantage for KIA's in real world price negotiations. I purchased my KIA Sorento last year for $8000 under MSRP, making it several thousand dollars less than the best offer I received for comparable models/trims from Honda, Toyota, and Mazda. I wouldn't expect anything approaching that discount on the new Telluride but I'm fairly confident that the small advantage the Pilot (Touring) enjoys in MSRP would be more than erased in serious negotiations. (Edit: Subsequent events have somewhat altered the situation. The demand for the Telluride is so great that unless one has already purchased or ordered one, it may be a wait until the 2020 model is introduced. And if a model, especially in SX trim, can be found, it's likely to be available only at several thousand dollars (or more) over MSRP.) () Performance/Power Train/Handling In this category traditional performance measures (e.g. 0-60, quater mile, etc) are pretty silly unless there are huge differences. The KIA has a slightly larger engine but it runs the Atkinson cycle that sacrifices performance in favor of fuel economy and the Honda's 10 speed transmission might have a slight advantage over the KIA's eight speed box. I'd expect to see a slight advantage for the Pilot in terms of performance but it's unlikely to be important or consistent from one reviewer to another. If you're into stop light drag racing with your 3 row crossover, look at a Durango with a V8 mill. Although KIA claims to have "torque vectoring," the Pilot's version of SH-AWD is a superior system. KIA's version is essentially a "brake-based" system that doesn't offer the same level of sophistication or capabilities of Honda's mechanical system. I doubt that most drivers will be in situations where the differences are obvious but it's worth noting. () Size. It's a very small point but I believe the length of the Pilot is incorrect in the review. The specs I've seen indicate it's 196.5" in length rather than 194.5." That makes the two vehicles virtually the same length. This is a nit to most folks. But for me it's important to being able to fit a vehicle in my garage and believe it or not two inches can make a difference, especially if you hang a large bike rack off the rear end. () Interior amenities/quality/size. Honda excels in family friendly interior design. But if you want near luxury, the KIA's nappa leather upholstery, larger infotainment screen and features and other amenities are obviously superior to the Touring trimmed Pilot. You really have to step up to the Elite trim of the Pilot and even then it trails the Telluride. Kia is king of the legroom competition in all their vehicles. If you're tall with long legs, look at a KIA model and the extending thigh support in the Telluride only adds to that advantage. Overall cargo and passenger space is almost identical. But if you want to transport six or more people AND their gear on a trip, the Telluride is significantly superior in terms of space. () Potential Resale. I don't buy a depreciating asset as an investment but if replacing a vehicle every three years or so is your (very expensive) hobby, the Pilot is probably a better choice. Nevertheless, the notion that KIA's crater in terms of resale value is an outdated notion. Last year I traded my 2012 Sorento for an identical 2018 model. The dealer gave me within $800 of the Kelly Blue Book estimate of the trade-in value of a comparable Toyota Highlander (the resale champ.) Considering that I originally paid about $8000 less than the best offer I received for a 2012 Highlander purchased new, I made out like a bandit. () Bottom Line. Given my experience with two Sorentos, I'd go for the Telluride in a heartbeat. No contest. And since the Pilot is a very good vehicle, superior to most others in the category, that's a strong endorsement. The review strikes me as truly excellent and not just because I agree with the conclusion. :)
One thing I am still trying to figure out is which one will hold its value over the long run. As far as I know Honda has the best resale value even better than Toyota and they are just as reliable as Toyota which is also something really useful for someone like me who keeps the vehicle for a long ass time.
I couldn't agree more, as I am a Honda girl and trying to decide on either? I'm always on the road and love to travel in comfort and also knowing I'm gonna reach my destination and back with no issues. Aside from the Telluride looking wayyy better than the Pilot, I'm still in love with my Honda!🤷🏽
You should compare the pilot elite, despite price differences, also think about reliability and resell value! Besides that, the Kia is impressive in terms of accessories, but I'd prefer the Honda, for reliability and resell value! Nice comparison video though!!!
Being based on the 14 Acura MDX, the Pilot is somewhat of an aged vehicle. However, we’re not going to see anything substantial come in the way of any updates to the Pilot until the MDX redesign is completed. That said, the Pilot is a runaway success for the brand. So there isn’t any viable reason to do much with it for the next couple of years. Honestly, I don’t think Honda is too concerned about the Telluride taking sales from the Pilot, anymore than their concern for any other model segment where both brands compete.
Hmm I got my 2019 Pilot Elite for 44,791. I like the Telluride/Palisade. The interior design looks great and the materials look top notch. Like everyone else I like a boxy truck like SUV. If it was out early this year then I would have definitely gotten the Palisade over the Pilot.
We recently bought a Telluride and very simply, it is by far the nicest vehicle we’ve ever purchased! So many bells and whistles that are STANDARD. We truly feel like we are driving a luxury vehicle! If anyone is in the market for a spacious and comfortable SUV and you are on the fence about the Telluride, let me dispel any of your trepidation...This vehicle will put a smile on your face. KIA has raised the bar very high
They didn't mention that the Pilot is substantially quicker. 0 to 60 mpg for Pilot is 6.1 vs 7.5 for Telluride. However, I have a 2016 Pilot and I find the driver seat to be uncomfortable. I'm looking for something else.
Great video! You do an awesome job. I love how you tally the votes along the way thru your review. Keep your videos coming! I am subscribing to your channel!
Traditionally Honda has had better retention of value, but Kia and Hyundai have been making significant gains. The long term build quality of the Telluride still remains to be seen. But it sure is making a grand entrance. another consideration is that people are keeping their cars longer than five to six years, the average is about 11.
Both are nicely appointed automobiles. But Honda's excell in reliability and keep there resale value far much better then a Kia. By the way, how many vintage Kia's with high mileage on them do you see on the road today? And, would you buy a used high mileage Kia over a used high mileage Honda? Of course you wouldn't.
The only draw back I have with the Telluride is that it's not fully all wheel drive over 40 mph from my understanding. When I select ASD that's what I want, but overall a very nice SUV.
Another great video guys. I Love your channel because your comparison videos actual do the comparison, a very well done sync of the 2 vehicles at the same time. VERY WELL DONE! Bravo
They copied the exact interior from the Pilot. This was a huge missed opportunity. Had they tried incorporating some of the Accord's interior styling this would've been an amazing vehicle.
@MAGA No I'm talking about how the Passport has the same interior as the Pilot. They could've made it unique, that would've made the Passport a big success.

From a Land Rover Owner.... Take the Kia brother and trust me "Today Kia is one of the best car in the world "
KIA is the best car to play the underdog " Yes i have a $60,000 Land Rover and a $40,000 Kia Opirus 3.8 and at the time i buy that KIA all my coworker mention "why you buy that piece of shit".... today 11 years later with 160,000 miles my KIA fuck my Land Rover in reliability 1 to 7 in dealer repair . Yes my KIA visit the dealer only 1 time in 11 year and was only a"brake light switch " and was under Warranty ... today ask to my all coworker what happen to your BMW ,Infinity ,Benz, Volvo " ext and the answer was" well a problem with something and i change the car...
i recommended the brand ..... But "What Man Drive a Pilot ? that design look to bland for Men ....
SUV need to look like a Men ...
Yup! I agree.. one of your coworker who said KIA is piece of shit has a lot of fuckin explanation to do now since Kia Telluride just has won the 2020 Motor Trend SUV of the year!! Tell him to explain that SHIT!!!!!
I’m happy that Hyundai and Kia are making exceptional vehicles it’s going to make the other company step up and stop making crap
Raff Time um, check out Hyundai and Kia recalls. They have serious engine issues. There is more to a car than looks.
Not all Kia and Hyundai's. Certain years and certain engine displacements, like the 2.4l and 2.0l gdi engines.
Every automaker has issues thats part of the game but with a 10 year warranty you’re covered a lot more than other auto makers
atl3630 um you should check out the fact that Honda has the most recalls of any car brand
My neighbor rolled up to my house in the KIA and I thought it was a Range Rover. Beautiful vehicle.
2020 Kia Tel better vision headlight on ground and good distance..
Great video guys!!! I love the Kia Telluride better than the Honda Pilot, my mom got a 2011 Honda Pilot, she like the Kia Telluride
Trade it in
StreetKiaz NewMexico ok
You’re comparing a 2011 Pilot to the brand new 2020 Telluride xD
Toyota and honda has basked in the glory of their name brand for soo long that they've gotten complacent. However Kia and hyundai (IMO) is already at their level and almost surpassing them. Never in my life did I think I'd choose a sonata over a camry or honda. My 2.0t 2015 sonata leaves me no regrets. The value for money, features and reliability has been nothing short of amazing. Am just glad that people are starting to realize that honda and toyota charges more than they offer and could do better. Amazing review. Thank you!
Japan is a country where everything is dying.
The Japanese economy has not developed in 20 years.
Semiconductors, shipbuilding, smart phones and electronics are all ahead of Japan.
Korean cars are developing very rapidly.
Korean cars will slowly erase Japanese cars
Toyota still makes great cars
Honda on the other hand is living of the success of their old days and they make junk now, please dont blame Toyota because of lazy honda
Same can be told for German vehicles not only Japanese and you are 100 % right
The Kia tops the Honda Pilot...not even close in my books. Wins on looks alone..
Wife’s 2017 Pilot with 75k developed transmission problems. Dealer wanted $7k to replace the trans, out of warranty and no help from Honda. Traded it in on 2022 Telluride, seems Honda quality is slipping
@@geebro May be. Your experience is just one case. More data is needed to conclude that Honda is slipping. Hyundai and Kia are investigated by the US government agency for possible engine problems.
Kia got half a point for doubling Honda’s warranty :/ wut bruh
I know, right? The Pilot got a WHOLE point because the storage bin in the armrest was a tad bigger. LOL
Jason Murley 🤷🏽♂️ these tings are never perfect but sometimes I just see the score change I’m like hold on a second man whyyyyy
@@jasonmurley3379 I had to rewind the video to make sure when I saw that
Yes, They took it easy on Honda. The entertainment screen was also glossed over. The larger size and split screen is a pretty nice touch that is enough to make it better, yet both were rated about equal.
@@groboz theres also a button that holds the lift gate at any angle on the lift gate itself. Thats another point for the telluride.
I’ll take the Telluride. So much better looking.
Honestly, when I read the title, I knew that there would be a lot of praise for the Telluride and not much for the Pilot & while looking thru the comments, it was no surprise that the Telluride got all the praise lol
Honda and Toyota have made their mark for longevity and reliability. That means in the long run you save money on repairs and headaches.
Other companies will dress their cars with gadgets and good numbers and warranties but time and time again great engineering shows it hand over time.
If you think a Kia is better engineered than a Honda than the only one who suffers from your ignorance is you.
Yuthea Hem New Honda’s are having lots of problems. My sister has a CRV and my Aunt has the Odyssey, both are having issues. Honda’s quality has gone way down.
Very true.....good looking and more features does not mean much infront of experence
I have been looking at this Kia and am blown away am definitely buying it for my family thanks Kia for killing the competition
This is a game changer for Kia along with stinger...
GO TELLURIDE!!!!!
Thanks for calling a tie when the difference (ie HP) is unnoticeable. I always roll my eyes when reviewers will award a win because some other model has +4 more HP.
I currently own TWO Honda Pilots and I say without a doubt, the new Kia Telluride is gorgeous and much better equipped than the Pilot. If it holds up in reliability and safety, I think I might be leaving Honda for a Kia.....something I never thought I would ever say.
@US HDbrr Nice try but not even close. From 2014 to now, the BRAND with the highest number of recalls is unsurprisingly General motors. The VEHICLE with the highest number of recalls is the Mercedes C-class sedan. Even with their airbag recall, Honda doesn't even crack the top 10 manufacturers.

@@michonneokoye4990 right lol but one thing about Honda is they learn FAST the next Pilot I'm sure will be a 50K plus masterpiece but im excited to see the Palisade vs the Telluride one the Palisade drops this summer I'll be buying once for sure
@@dredawg679 From watching videos on both I'm partial to the Palisade. Something about it is a little nicer. Although I just got the 2019 Santa Fe (ultimate trim) I won't be getting either any time soon lol. I love my suv (so far) So the Palisade has to be even better, so I guess I'm biased :D
@@michonneokoye4990 yea the new Santa Fe is nice I have a 2015 Sonata 2.0t ultimate so I'm a little bias as well but the good thing is either way I go I'll have one of the best warranties in the business I want the Telluride outsides with the Palisade insides smh few more months and I'll know for sure
I get the opposite feeling on the Palisade. I think it's pretty ugly in the nose and the interior looks more futuristic, but bland to my eyes. I am confused as to why Kia went with remote start through the app only, but that's the only thing I'd gripe about. The Telluride is just so damn gorgeous to me, that Palisade can't touch it.
Kia is killing it
Good old Telluride from good old Georgia wins hands down!!! Go Kia, Go USA!! Sorry Honda, your glory days are over.. Move over for the new King in town, boys...

I love the pilot a lot and im a honda fan but i have to say i would go with the telluride i love the design and the interior
Absolutely Telluride Win
I would love to have the new Telluride. Good bye Pilot.....
The Telluride is much better overall, it'll last longer too, can't trust that Honda transmission.
Yeah! Absolutely KIA TELLURIDE!
I feel like the Telluride is gonna be a sales win for Kia.
can't wait to see Genesis version
First off, Genesis is the luxury division of Hyundai...NOT Kia. KIA does not currently have a luxury division. Genesis has the ultra lux GV80.
called Kia dealer in texas. The price for SX prestige package is 57,000 without taxes, With taxes its + 60K. They say that they cannot keep with the demand, so the MSRP had to be matched. What the hell !!
No competition. Telluride over Pilot any day
I own a Honda Civic and a Ridgeline, I pick the Kia.
Kia look bigger and nicer then the pilot .
Hard to find fault with your thorough, unbiased review. Thank you.
Thank you! We appreciate that!
Great comparison guys and couldn’t agree more on its conclusion. Look forward to a comparison with this Telluride and Hyundai’s upcoming Palisade.
😀Yeah we're really looking forward to getting our hands on the Palisade!
I think the Palisade is even better looking than the Telluride....
I love how companies compete with each other in any field not the cars only. The creativity and inventions they made to enhance our life experience is just awesome ❤
despite they drain our pockets 😂
Thats called capitalism friend.
And if a model, especially in SX trim, can be found, it's likely to be available only at several thousand dollars (or more) over MSRP.)
() Performance/Power Train/Handling In this category traditional performance measures (e.g.
Thank you! That was a very insightful comment that other viewers will benefit from reading!
This was a thorough assessment. I definitely appreciate you posting!
@@normanfooteii5300 Thanks!
One thing I am still trying to figure out is which one will hold its value over the long run. As far as I know Honda has the best resale value even better than Toyota and they are just as reliable as Toyota which is also something really useful for someone like me who keeps the vehicle for a long ass time.
I couldn't agree more, as
I am a Honda girl and trying to decide on either?
I'm always on the road and love to travel in comfort and also knowing I'm gonna reach my destination and back with no issues.
Aside from the Telluride looking wayyy better than the Pilot, I'm still in love with my Honda!🤷🏽
You should compare the pilot elite, despite price differences, also think about reliability and resell value!
Besides that, the Kia is impressive in terms of accessories, but I'd prefer the Honda, for reliability and resell value!
Nice comparison video though!!!
Way to dethrone the leader KIA!! Telluride is an official new King... Love this Telluride; Made in Georgia, U.S. of A!!!!
I'll take the Kia over the Honda any day! Beautiful SUV!
If you paid 50k for a Pilot.. smh
Wow Honda hasn't changed that dome light assembly in over 10 years..
Probably because it works. My dad's Accord has 285,000 miles and mine 207,000 miles and ours still works great!
Trust me, a company is a always concerned about another company taking sales from them.
I hit Like Button as soon as I saw the comparison as I own a '16 Pilot I needed this comparison very badly, good job guys.
Excellent!

Kia is new but what resale. Honda resale is better
I love it! Keep doing what you’re doing. Love the comparison videos!
Thanks!
in 5-6 years when your loan is paid off, which one will have issues? or time to sell/trade-in, which one will retain its value?
Traditionally Honda has had better retention of value, but Kia and Hyundai have been making significant gains. The long term build quality of the Telluride still remains to be seen. But it sure is making a grand entrance. another consideration is that people are keeping their cars longer than five to six years, the average is about 11.
Honda all day. If you get a kia or Hyundai you better drive it to the ground
Neither are my type, but for me the Telluride wins. We'll have to see what Honda does for the next gen Pilot.
You should compare the Telluride to the new 2020 Explorer
Yeah we probably will when the Explorer comes out!
Bravo
Thank ya, Capt!
Dat Honda's interior especially dashboard and infotainment system.. boring af
They copied the exact interior from the Pilot. This was a huge missed opportunity. Had they tried incorporating some of the Accord's interior styling this would've been an amazing vehicle.
Sorry, I was talking about the Passport. That was a missed opportunity.
@MAGAHuh? I didn't say Kia stole from Honda. I meant to say Honda messed up with the Passport by cpying its own Pilot's interior.
@MAGA No I'm talking about how the Passport has the same interior as the Pilot. They could've made it unique, that would've made the Passport a big success.
Wow! Thank you for making this head to head review. My wife and I are researching her next SUV and these are the two top contenders. Awesome comparison video.
