- "The Swan" is one of the fourteen pieces in "the Carnival of the Animals" composed by Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) in 1886. It is loved by many and is probably the most famous of the suite. It was written for cello and piano but is also widely known as the music for the ballet "The Dying Swan".
In this piano and violin performance, the piano creates the image of a sparkling lake surface, while the flowing melody of the violin represents a swan gliding gracefully over it.
This time, I chose to wear a white and blue dress, overlapping the image of the swan and the lake!

１月に韓国の弦楽四重奏団エスメがアンコールでこの曲を演奏し、無茶苦茶綺麗な瀕死の白鳥の演奏で始まり、後半＜天空に上昇し天使のように舞い降りてきた＞のを心の映像で＜本当のように＞観えました💖サンサーンスの凄さですね。死の舞踏は難しそうですが弾ければ様になりそうに素人には思えます。フィナーレが本当の難曲に思え、寓話・ドラマをどう締めるか、＜人生＞が問われているのかもしれません(笑）

1つのロングトーンの中での、品のあるクレッシェンドやデクレッシェンド、一貫して安定しまくってるプュアな音の連続が、曲、メロディーの大きな流れをうむ屋台骨にもなってるのか！と感じました。チェロの白鳥に比べると、軽やかで華美さがあるなー！思いました！

白鳥」は、サン・サーンス(1835-1921)が1886年に作曲した、全14曲からなる組曲「動物の謝肉祭」のなかの1曲です。多くの人に愛され、組曲の中でも最も有名な曲といえるでしょう。
この曲は、チェロとピアノのために書かれましたが、バレエ「瀕死の白鳥」の音楽としても広く知られています。
このピアノとヴァイオリンの演奏では、ピアノがきらめく湖面をイメージし、ヴァイオリンの流れるような旋律がその上を優雅に滑る白鳥を表現しています。
今回は、白鳥と湖のイメージを重ねて、白と青のドレスを着てみました！
作品にに合わせた衣装を選ばれて映美さんの心遣いも素敵ですよ💓💓
本当に綺麗なメロディーと美しい水鳥が優雅に気品に溢れて水面を泳ぐ風景が目に浮かぶサン・サーンスの「白鳥」はいつ聴いても心が洗われて嬉しくなります。映美さん❤❤❤がいつもながら心を込めて演奏されて美しいバイオリン🎻の音色に癒されますねー〜聞いていると心地良さにうとうとしてしまうようです🎉

Wunderschön Eimi, dein Spiel, die Musik, dein Outfit ist immer geschmackvoll und perfekt auch wenn du es nicht speziell erwähnst, wie heute, inspiriert durch das Weiß des Schwans und das Blau des Wassers oder Himmels (wie der Bayer sagt, der immer erst das Weiß erwähnt- niemals blau weiß ). Schwäne sehen, gleitend in ruhigem Wasser zwar sehr friedlich aus, sie sind das aber häufig nicht. Bei dem Stück musste ich heute an meinen Hund denken, der im oberen Pegnitztal sich nicht ins Wasser traut, wenn der Schwan, der dort seit Jahren im Fluss lebt, irgendwie in der Nähe ist. Der kommt sofort mit harter Ruderbewegung an und treibt meinen Rudi ( und jeden anderen Hund und Mensch) aus dem Wasser. Insofern ist deine Musik heute kein Gleichnis für diesen Schwan, dafür aber Seelen Nahrung für mich. Danke.

Very nicely played! I particularly like Carnival of the Animals with Ogden Nash's humorous verses.
Trumpeter swans live in my area and I have been photographing a pair that have two little ones. Trumpeter swans and sandhill cranes have a somewhat similar call. Whooping cranes, also nearby have an almost melodic bugle that is quite impressive in the spring when they seem most active.
Wouldn't it be neat to incorporate those sounds like Resphigi used the cuckoo in Punes of Rome - or Mahler's instrumental version in his first symphony?
Saint-Saëns used flutes for his birds.
You and your accompanist did a nice job of capturing the 'flowing' aspect of the swimming swan. Swans do not create much of a ripple when they swim.
This transcription works well, but I don't think that the violin would be an effective substitute for the basso elephant!
That's a very fun suite, including such diverse animals as pianists and fossils.

The idea of integrating natural bird calls into music is indeed fascinating and has been explored by composers like Respighi and Saint-Saëns to great effect. It's delightful to hear that the local wildlife has inspired you, much as it has inspired many artists and musicians throughout history.
The violin transcription of 'The Swan' aims to capture the elegance of the swan's movements, and I'm glad you felt that it conveyed the 'flowing' gracefulness!!! While it may not replicate the depth of an elephant's sound, it's a joy to bring such a diverse range of creatures to life through music!

Plenty of music makes no reference to the natural world, but there's also plenty that does.
A musical 'carnival' that identifies each subject is pretty obvious.
Prokofiev was a bit more circumspect in Peter and the Wolf, using the fancy idea of 'leitmotif'. John Williams does the same thing as did Mozart, Wagner and many others.
Leroy Anderson's 'Sleigh Ride' captures the sound of harness bells (as did Prokofiev's 'Troika'), but also the opinion of the horse when he whinnies at the end, compliments of the trumpeter.
The 'clip-clop' of the donkeys in Grofé's Grand Canyon paints a picture in our mind.
The col legno in Symphonie Fantastique conjures up visions of dancing skeletons.
All of these challenge the musician to find ways to make those sounds effectively.
Watch the Romanian/Hungarian fiddlers play with trilling harmonics in Ciocarlia!
They are clowning magicians of the instrument who can bounce the bow forever with what seems to be no effort at all.
Such fun, but lots of technique, practice and skill.
I'm enjoying your approach: the music, of course, but also the settings, the seemingly infinite wardrobe, excellent camera work, good sound, and the concise information under the title.
You play beautifully, but all of those other things are important.

The problem with offhand comment is lack of organization.
Music like The Swan is an example of a musical depiction of the swan swimming.
Moussorgsky named the paintings in his 'Pictures'.
We need to see those paintings so we can translate his musical thoughts.
Dukas gave us a misbehaving Sorcerer's Apprentice and a fairy-tale Péri.
Debussy was thinking of dappled moonlight on the water.
Salomé's veils are importantas are Delilah's thoughts in the wild Bacchanale.
The musician needs to present that image - and information - to the listener.
The essence of a Roman Carnival or Fountains in Rome or Planets may be more complex, but the idea is the same.
Holst tells us that Jupiter is jolly, just like Saint-Saëns tells us that the swan is swimming gracefully and smoothly - and that makes the music fun.
The violin has many uses.
Have you watched Charlie Daniels, Mark O'Connor and Johnny Cash in 'The Devil Comes Back to Georgia'?
