The first time I learned about the 400, I was in 3rd grade. I never got over it. "People sprint all the way around? There's no way." I'm still not over it.
Important Correction: At the 1984 Olympic Games when Valerie Briscoe-Hooks pulled off her 200/400 double, her winning time was an Olympic and American Record of 48.83. You listed her time at a MUCH slower 51.42. (Please see video at the 1:20 mark.) There's a huge difference, here.

He was incredible! World record in the 800m and a low altitude world record in the 400m. I remember watching those finals as a young boy who was early in his athletics career and was blown away by how incredible he was!
I'm glad you guys like the idea. Everyone talks about the 100 and 200 combo and also the 200 and 400 what is impressive, but if I'm not wrong, he was the only one to combine 400 and 800 meters.
Paulino is not that fast but she has mastered the technique to put on the gas in the last 50 meters. Sydney on the other hand is quick but lacks the technique in the 400m flat. My money is on Paulino any day. Until Sydney comes up with a technique!😊
The race I'd like to see is Anna Cockrell, Marileidy Paulino, Alexis Holmes, Femke Bol and Sydney McLaughlin, all racing against each other in the same open 400. I think that would be a hell of a race.
Yes it would and the winner will be undisputed but it needs to be done before runners get old just like in boxing or ppl will say ah they were old. you beat a champion but a old one.. means nothing
she ran a 50.37 in the 400h. I ran in college and one of my teammates (a male) was a 47.2 open 400m runner and his hurdles time was around 50.7. He had perfect hurdling form. If Sydney can run 50.37 in the hurdles at her peak then she should be able to run 47 in the open 400m.
needs to be noted that her 400m loss to Paulino she blasted out from the gun and ran outta gas with 50m to go which was when Paulino past her, i think Sydney has learned a bit more about how to run the 400m since last yr and i think its gonna be a different story from last yr, in regards to her 200m race she had the 2nd fastest time of the yr and that was her first race, she really is a special kind of runner that can do pretty much anything from 100mh, 200m, 400mh and 400m, she is the female version of Tebogo in her versatility, speed and strength
Bobby told her to go 90% through 200 and see how long she could hang on. She did it in like 22.6. It was just a pacing test. Not really a race. She's ready for her now.
That race happened last year where she had no major championships. She ran 49.7 against Paulinho which is one of her worst times in years. Her 400m form is tied to her 400m hurdles form. If she is still in 50.37 hurdles shape, Paulinho may need to run a lifetime best to beat her on the 13th. And Bobby wouldn't let her run if he knew she wasn't ready
BREAKING: DL CEO Petr Stastny just confirmed that SML isn't eligible to compete in both W200/400m @DL Final in Brussels next wk, she can run a non-DL event at the meet, but isn''t eligible for a wildcard spot in a DL Final! MJ Perec very much deserves her flowers for also pulling off that rare 200/400m double at those same '96 Olympics! Love that Syd's finally racing in the DL, but ppl need to put more respect on Paulino's name who's unbeaten in over a yr & ran an easy looking 48.17 in the rain in the OLY Final!
Who disrespected Paulino? It’s going to be a battle but Sydney is one of the greatest track athletes ever, so yeah most ppl will give the edge to her deservedly so. Her time in the 4x400 would’ve won gold this year in the 400. So people have every right to believe she’s going to win
@@AllInTheGame01 He obviously means that her time of 47.71s in the relay would have beaten Paulino's gold run in the 400m but that's wrong since it wasn't from a block start. You would have to add probably around half a second or maybe more. Allyson Felix for example ran a 47.70s split in 2015 in Beijing and has a PB of 49.26s. Sydney may be able to run sub 48 some day with the right training cycle and at peak form, but it is unlikely that she will pull off that time at the DL final so late in the season. If she runs a new PB of under 48.70s it would be a good achievement. Paulino as the dominant 400 m specialist and one of the best 400m women of all time is surely the favorite to win. The winning time will probably be around 48.30s. Sydney second or third behind Naser.
@@AllInTheGame01 excuse me for writing it wrong but I meant to say her time in the 4x400 was 47.71 while Paulino was 48.17 in the 400. That time would’ve won her gold.
@@thegreatdel9679 A 4x4 split from a running start is a minimum 0.5s slower than the time from a block start in the individual 400m! Plus Paulino's 48.17 was run in the rain & she wasn't pushed at all as she eased down in the last 5-10m!
Kratochvilova’s PRs at the time she set the 800m record were: 100m - 11.09 200m - 21.97 (4th fastest ever at the time, #3 performer - only Marita Koch and Evelyn Ashford had run faster) 400m - 48.45 (dropped to 47.99 two weeks later). She passed 200m in 23m2 to run a sub 48
He was an absolute horse! No one at that time could come close to challenging him. At the same time, Cuba had the world record holder in the high, Javier Sotomayor whose 8'1/4" is still the record as well as Teofilo Stevenson who many considered a match for Ali but never went pro.
Let's not put the cart before the horse I'm think Sydney's just testing the waters for next year since one of the main ideas of Michael Johnson's new league was to possibly have the athletes compete in events other than their main event. I don't see Sydney going to Brussels to try to run sub-48. She may just be trying to break the American record or just seeing where her speed is heading into next season. Re: the 3 athletes who did the 200/400m Olympic double. Valerie Brisco-Hooks...FWIW...another Kersee trained athlete. @@drapetomaniack Paulino's best is 48.17, not 47.17. Paulino is fantastic - I am a fan of hers. However, she is more of a known quantity. Maybe she and her coach know, but I don't see how any of us can say that we really know.
Sydney technically had home field advantage because she trains in LA and is very familiar with that track. But i know you meant the 200m event as being Gabby’s home turf but gabby’s excuse of being in a hard training cycle before the race was valid. Since we all saw how she performed afterwards.
@@kc5466 yeah.. athletes have peaks and valleys, and Gabby was probably saving her peak performance for the Olympics (as was Sydney in hurdles) But very impressive anyway.
@kc5466 Gabby's real hurdle is that she goes out of her way to work as a nurse for free. All that time on her feet has to affect her training negatively
NOTA BENE: Gabby had run a 100m race like 45m before so she wasn’t fresh - neither was the former TRP darling, Abby Steiner. And that was SYD’s only race.
@@veganpotterthevegan well athletes don't always PR every time they run. They have times of the year when they are super fast, and times when they are in training.
A 400m/200m combo from Sydney. Alongside running in Michael Johnson League next yr i really hope she will be running this combo or at least add the 400m as her signature for the next couple of seasons. I also think Competition will make them both race better
It is the competition between the two (Sydney and Marileidy) that will push them to lower the barrier of 48' first and then 47.60. One without the other will not have enough pressure to achieve it. It will be amazing to watch!
We underestimate how much having a good competitor can push us. I say if both are in top form we could get a world record from Paulino and sub 48 from Mcglaughlin
Agreed! And, you can never underestimate the motivating factor a loss can be. Just ask Dalilah - the last one to beat her in the 400m H. That loss to Paulino may prove to be the new fuel to Sydney's competitive fire.
To everyone saying SML can only run low 48, you're not getting TRP's point in this video. It's not because she ran her 400m leg in 47.71 at the Olympics that she will run the same in Brussels. She could run even faster. Have you thought for a second that SML, who never or rarely runs in Diamond League, shows interest in 400m and also 200m after already achieving both golds at the Olympics, must be for a reason? She most likely has a plan. She must be in an extremely good shape and feel very confident she can dig deep to possibly get these records. She probably already did it during her training sessions. Meaning she could do it if she feels right on D-day. Now of course she could also completely mess up her race. Happened to the bests many times. Remember we are talking about a special athlete which keeps on evolving every time very fast and pushing back her boundaries in impressive fashion.
All what your saying is speculative…I’m excited but a sub 48 would be insane if she could pull it off, realistically low 48 is more likely as she’s not been running the 400m flat consistently like her competitors. I believe her body still has to adjust to it that’s why I doubt she can pull it off but we’re gonna have to wait and see🤞
She ran the open 400m and 200m while at Kentucky and in high school, so she's not unfamiliar with either distance. I'd stick with her running low 48's in this race and around 22.0 (maybe a bit under 22.0) in the 200m. I'll guess she's running these to 'feel them out' under top competitive conditions and will put in a more concentrated effort next year to go faster in both. Depending on the 2025 World Champs schedule she could run a double of 400mH and either the 200m or 400m.
The fact that she competes in these distances in the DL final could just mean that she aims for a Diamond League win there. Paulino and Naser as some of the best 400m specialists have much better PBs than her. It would be a huge success if she would win either of these races. To expect that she goes there and beats a world record that stood for 39 years in a format she doesn't even specialize in and has never come close to before is lunacy.
I totally agree that if anyone could do this double, it's Sydney, but I also think it's going to be very tough for her to win either. I think she has a better chance in the 400m, but if Paulino runs anywhere near her new PB, it's unlikely Sydney will win, not impossible though. The 200m, on the other hand, could have multiple women running sub 22 and Sydney has not run that many 200m and it's less like the event that she has been training for and competing in. I can see Sydney running sub 22, but I'm not sure how far below. Either way, it's a very exciting prospect.
there is not going to be a match-up between Paulino and Sidney, and Sidney is not going to run the 200m in Brussels because she has not accumulated enough points to qualify for both disciplines or events.
@@kobinasagoe7407 I would think, because she's Sydney would be enough. The wildcards are used to fill the race when not enough athletes auto-qualify and they are generally offered to the athletes that people are most likely to want to see race. I don't think Sydney is looking to beat Paulino ( it would be nice if she would ) but i think Paulino will drive Syd to break the AR... that is what she wants.
@@isa-cq4gkTrue Paulino does hold the area record or continental record because she from the Dominican Republic but the abbreviation of AR used by original poster is referring to the American record or to be more precise the USA record.
Doing the 200-400 double in one off races over two days is a lot easier to having to run heats and semi finals before finals in Olympic Games or world championships.
Putting in Paulino here as an afterthought does a disservice to athletics. She is one of the world's great athletes. I'm sure that McLaughlin Levrone does not under-rate her. However, I can't see either of these great athletes getting near Koch's time.

@@blazeofficial6292 I know Sydney is a once in a generation athlete. She's a beast. There are 3 women who ran faster than that this season. Sydney hasn't mastered the open 400 the way she has mastered the 400 hurdles... yet. We have not seen any women run sup 48 in like 40 years. They are pretty close but, don't think the 47.60 will be broken in this event, or any time soon. It is not likely to happen.
If not for Paulino and McLoughlin, you'd probably be right. Great rivalries like these often lead to records being broken multiple times in quick succession. Remember Coe - Ovett? And these two are way younger!
You could dope them up to the eyeballs back then. Nasser avoided 4 drug tests got banned and only managed 3 fastest of all time. Anyone breaks the record their most probably cheating

HUGE McLaughlin fan here and a believer in her potential, but…. I think mainly this will be a test and foundation-setter for her plans for next year (if all goes well). I doubt she’s beating all the ladies that have run sub-22 this year, and she’s a loonnng way from Naser’s and Paulino’s low-48.1x 400 PBs. Probably too much to ask for this year. My guess is she wants to break 22 in the 200 and get the American record in the 400. I’m guessing she’ll succeed on both counts with a 21.85 and 48.3, behind one or two women in the 200 and at least Paulino in the 400. All the girls in this 200m were at the beginning of their season, far from their peak form, Thomas only 5th! Now they are all at the top, we will have a better idea of their real value!
My prediction is that she runs 47.96 in the 400, based on her 47.71 relay split and the fact that Michael Johnson's 42.92 was 0.25 seconds faster than his open 400 PR. As for the 200, I definitely think she can break 22, but I don't see her running under 21.8.
I find it interesting the amount of doubt that has been expressed as to Sydney’s chances. I’m not saying she’s capable of absolutely anything, but in all seriousness, the woman is focused, disciplined, strong and driven. I believe if she’s determined and remains un injured, she’s capable of breaking those records with the proper training regime.
I was there in an official capacity for a bunch of this. UCLA √ Johnson 200 √ Perec √ I wasn't in the Coliseum for Brisco-Hooks but I did talk with her at a meet 4 months ago.
I always thought that Michael Johnson should have been picked for the US 4 x 100m relay team back in 1996. The policy was to use the four best 100m runners, but I'm sure that Johnson - with a relay flying start - would have been faster than at least one of those guys.
Sydney is not touching the WR. And the lack of respect to Paulino remains beyond frustrating. She’s just gone 48.1 and beat Sydney the one time they raced even though Sydney more experienced over 400 than 200. Give Paulino the respect she’s earned.
True, Paulino should be the favorite to win, but she didn*t run sub 48.1. Her PB still stands at 48.17s. It's the Olympic record and the sixth fastest time ever run. Amazing!
lol, that would be by far the fastest 400m race of all time. Nobody went sub 48s in 39 years and you predict two women to beat it in the same race? The chance of that happening is vanishingly small.
@@yozkopf3000 Completely disagree. I predict they finish within .2 seconds of each other, winner dipping below 48. As far as who wins, whether the world record goes, or whether 2nd place also breaks 48, I'm not ready to take a guess on those!
With how infrequent she runs outside of major events, getting her to the track is half the battle. Honestly, I'll be slightly shocked if we see two races from her.
I've just seen speculation on LetsRun that she's running the 200/400m in Brussels as a test of the format she's signed to run next year in the Grand Slam, and she's running in Brussels because this meet will be one of the Grand Slam meets next year.
I honestly think it’s crazy that she is allowed to 1) compete, and 2) be eligible for the trophy after skipping every DL this yr. Not only one but 2 races. Craziest part? I guess Bobby Kersee is gonna eat that weird food in Europe and have language barriers again.
They gave Sydney 2 Wild Card slots, based on her ranking, Olympic gold medalist, and world record holder status. Does anyone really think that if Sydney called up the meet organizers in Brussels, and told them that she wanted to race in their meet, that they would tell her, that they don't want her there.
@@DrDew-m7y my original reply was deleted it looks, Where i listed the info. That’s not the issue to me. I just think it’s unfair that she’s online to get the trophy despite not running a single DL, and those wild card slots at least should be a weighted draw. According to the 4 criteria, she could likely get called up every yr and not run a single DL race: - World record holder - Reigning world, Olympic or Diamond League champion - Top 5 in the World Athletics rankings of their event - Top 20 in the overall World Athletics rankings
I am glad they let her in the meet, since she apparently wants to race in it now, and I'm sure the meet organizers are salivating over the match ups especially in the 400m between her and Paulino, and the rest of the 400m field. However, I agree that in Sydney's case, she should be ineligible to win the Diamond League trophy, since she did not run in any previous DL races this year.
@@DrDew-m7y for sure they’re delighted. Sure Koch and doping given DDR history is something we should take into account. However, we should also take into account that material was clearly inferior. For instance Paris track was known to be even faster than previous tracks. So Koch was running on tracks that puts her may be a second behind others just due to its inferior surface. Koch was a formidable runner.
Doping is doping, and in the DDR, it was state-run and widespread. Compare women's discus, where the track makes zero difference. The top 18 throws (and 59 of 60) are from Germany and Eastern Europe in the '80s. All of them. All the '80s. Gosh.
I could see Sydney running ~21.8 in the 200m; which may be enough to win it. In the 400m, I think that it will be a battle with Paulino (maybe with Salwa Eid Naser not far behind) with both of them approaching 47 seconds. But I have to go with Paulino.
Sydney can do whatever she puts her mind to accomplish. She has that kind of focus, determination, and strength to get the job done. I have said that she needs to let the 400m hurdles go and focus on both the 400m flat and the 200m discipline like Michael Johnson did. This is the logical progression for such a once in a generation athlete that has already mastered the 400m hurdles. Time for a new challenge for Sydney.
She was injured before the US trials and opened her season at the trials. However, she fell in the final of the 800 meters and didn't make the team. The track season is almost over, so she can be taking time to rest.
She had a bad season. Her fall at the trials was a non-factor, really, because her times have been very poor. Injuries, lack of fitness. Needs a new coach. BK ain't good for her.
Because she competes so rarely, she can be at her best on these two or three occasions, which gives her an unfair advantage over the others. If she wins, it doesn't tell you that she is the best for it.
@@willaimoconnell9430 Just look at Bednarek.. Those who competed a lot have lost 3-5 tenths against the year's best now only in 200m. If Bednarek only ran the Olympics and then, like Sydney, lay and loaded for Zurich and nothing else, he would have performed far better than what he will do now. This will be the difference between winning and finishing fourth in Zurich. Let Sydney compete 10 events after the Olympics and she would have been a second worse than now.
@@rogertrygg5485 You may have a point there. This will be Sydney's first races after the Olympics, where some of the other runners she will be racing against may have already ran 1 or 2 races after the Olympics. So, that may give Sydney an advantage, but I wouldn't call it unfair, because each athlete has to decide for themselves how much or how little to race. Some runners may perform better with more races under their belt, others with less. I'm guessing Sydney and her coach, Bobby Kersee, wanted to get these last 2 races in before the season ends because 1. Sydney is in really good form, and they want to verify that. 2. See what she can do now in both the 200m and the 400m, because she will run a lot more of these 2 races in 2025, and they will find out what she will need to work on more in the off-season. 3. Use these 2 races as a pre-cursor for the Grand Slam track league that Sydney will be racing in next year, where you have to run 2 different races over 2 days, just like what she will be doing here.

I Hope she takes the 200’more seriously. Her 200 is special. People are just eager to see her break the 400 record but she should really hold on that. Her 200 with actual training could be sub 21 tbh
All these people talking up Paulino just because they raced ONCE and she beat SML in an event SML doesn't typically run. Pffft. SML is building a GOAT status right under their noses. It's a case of denial.
Sydney "No limits" Mclaughlin can do what ever she puts her mind to, thats my belive. If she is tuning in to beat the WR in 400 m, I believe its a matter of time before she breaks it 💪😊Also it completely blew my mind how fast she was in 200 m 🤪
Win or lose, I'm sure Sydney will be enjoying a humongous appearance fee to attempt the double. As with any world record, I think the conditions will need to be ideal, but if anyone can break the 400 m record, Sydney would definitely be one of the top candidates to do it.
September 4th now... will you be doing a follow-up on the Diamond League's decision not to let SML compete even though the Brussels organizers invited her? Seems like a very short-sighted decision considering the marketing opportunities her participation would garner, not to mention the highlight it would be for all serious T & F fans. It also seems to be a bureaucratic turf war and quite hypocritical considering that, in a very similar situation in 2023, Athing Mu was allowed to compete as a wildcard at the Prefontaine Classic last year, which was also the Diamond League finals, even though she did not compete in any DL meets that year.
Sydney may have run sub 48 in the 4x400m relay but the conversion time to a flat 400m is at least 0.5 secs and more regularly accepted to be 0.7secs at least. I think low 48 is more likely for Sydney.
@@paladinfx3083she also had done multiple heats in the hurdles and relays at that point. In the 4x4 she had nobody even close to her so it’s safe to say if she had competition that it would have pushed her to run faster that day. Not saying she will but she is definitely capable of it.
The greatest blessing that Sydney has is her potential. This seems to be an era of record breaking. I recall that not too long ago a woman named Bol took down a long standing indoor 400m record - I don't think anyone predicted that one this year.
Sydney will be running 2 "promotional" races in Brussels that aren't DL sanctioned finals. I'll call them "B" races. She will run the 400m "B" race the first day, and the 200m "B" race the 2nd day. She will probably be running against other runners that didn't make the finals in these 2 races. But I bet especially in the 400m race, that her time in the "B" race will be faster than the winner's time in the official 400m "A" race.

(Please see video at the 1:20 mark.) There's a huge difference, here.

needs to be noted that her 400m loss to Paulino she blasted out from the gun and ran outta gas with 50m to go which was when Paulino past her, i think Sydney has learned a bit more about how to run the 400m since last yr and i think its gonna be a different story from last yr, in regards to her 200m race she had the 2nd fastest time of the yr and that was her first race, she really is a special kind of runner that can do pretty much anything from 100mh, 200m, 400mh and 400m, she is the female version of Tebogo in her versatility, speed and strength

@@AllInTheGame01 He obviously means that her time of 47.71s in the relay would have beaten Paulino's gold run in the 400m but that's wrong since it wasn't from a block start. Sydney technically had home field advantage because she trains in LA and is very familiar with that track.

@kc5466 Gabby's real hurdle is that she goes out of her way to work as a nurse for free. All that time on her feet has to affect her training negatively

Mondo beasting Karston in 100m is insane, crazy, or whatever YT buzzword
@TRP, better update the post as SML is not allowed to run in this DL event.
Depending on the 2025 World Champs schedule she could run a double of 400mH and either the 200m or 400m.
excellent analysis
The fact that she competes in these distances in the DL final could just mean that she aims for a Diamond League win there. Paulino and Naser as some of the best 400m specialists have much better PBs than her. It would be a huge success if she would win either of these races. To expect that she goes there and beats a world record that stood for 39 years in a format she doesn't even specialize in and has never come close to before is lunacy.
@@yozkopf3000 Right ! She has little to no chance to beat Paulino or Naser. Her PB is way above theirs.

I doubt she’s beating all the ladies that have run sub-22 this year, and she’s a loonnng way from Naser’s and Paulino’s low-48.1x 400 PBs. Probably too much to ask for this year. I’m guessing she’ll succeed on both counts with a 21.85 and 48.3, behind one or two women in the 200 and at least Paulino in the 400. My prediction is that she runs 47.96 in the 400, based on her 47.71 relay split and the fact that Michael Johnson's 42.92 was 0.25 seconds faster than his open 400 PR. As for the 200, I definitely think she can break 22, but I don't see her running under 21.8.
0.25 isn't the standard separation. Add 0.6 to 0.8 to that 47.71 for a reasonable 400 open estimate.
Maybe in dreamland Sydney could break the record.

I just think it’s unfair that she’s online to get the trophy despite not running a single DL, and those wild card slots at least should be a weighted draw. According to the 4 criteria, she could likely get called up every yr and not run a single DL race:
- World record holder
- Reigning world, Olympic or Diamond League champion
- Top 5 in the World Athletics rankings of their event
- Top 20 in the overall World Athletics rankings
I am glad they let her in the meet, since she apparently wants to race in it now, and I'm sure the meet organizers are salivating over the match ups especially in the 400m between her and Paulino, and the rest of the 400m field. However, I agree that in Sydney's case, she should be ineligible to win the Diamond League trophy, since she did not run in any previous DL races this year.
@@DrDew-m7y for sure they’re delighted. I can actually tell you what they’re going to ask at the presser: “will you break the record?” And the second question will be “you broke the record in Paris, and we’re
Basically next door. How do you feel about the time? We have perfect weather”… anyhow, she’ll be the centerpiece of the marketing. You can see it on the DL page already
Sydney's 400H Olympic title was more than 1 second faster than Valerie Brisco-Hooks 400 flat Olympic Gold. Crazy fast.
No, Valerie Brisco-Hooks ran 48.83s for the gold in 1984. This information was false.
@@yozkopf3000 thanks for correction.
Gosh.
48,72 over 400m, close second place.
21,96 over 200m, placing third.
world record! If she is in shape is only matter of time!
21.90 and 48.50. It will be a good clash with Paulino in the 4 and Thomas in the 2!
IS PAULINO TIME...💪😎👍
Eso si, me encanta que sigan subestimado a la Gacela de Ébano Marileidy Paulino.
Paulino BEATING Sydney, I am calling it here. If Nickeisha Pryce in there, and Nassa, it’s a blood bath. ❤❤❤
Ya Paulino les ha ganado a las tres (3) Mclaughlin, Pryce y Naser; incluyendo a Femke Bol, Adeleke y Britton la británica.
Is Paulino TIME.💪😎👍
Letsile can definitely pull the double off. And considering how young he is, maybe he can pull off the 100, 200, and 400.
200 400 ya but he ain't winning 100
@@stephenwilliams7200 You probably would’ve said the same thing about Noah a month ago. Letsile and Noah’s personal bests in the 100 aren’t that far off at all. Not to mention, the man just turned 21.
@JohnBeezy3 Nobody has ever attempted the 100m/200m/400m/4x400m quadruple at a global championship. That would be crazy, even for Tebogo.
@@Track.Monkey It's impossible to achieve. The 200 / 400 double is already insanely difficult. He would have to be a Michael Johnson type athlete to pull that off. He hasn't showcased that type of dominance anywhere yet.
And got 3rd in the World champs already
Sidebar: What has happened with Athing Mu? Is she taking a break from Track & Field?
She was injured before the US trials and opened her season at the trials. However, she fell in the final of the 800 meters and didn't make the team. The track season is almost over, so she can be taking time to rest.
@@avoiceinthechoir5791 she ran a poor race in the Mike Holloway classic after trials. Not been heard from since
She had a bad season. Her fall at the trials was a non-factor, really, because her times have been very poor. Injuries, lack of fitness. Needs a new coach. BK ain't good for her.
Oh, I didn’t know this was a preview
Paulino wins in 48.04
Nah
Because she competes so rarely, she can be at her best on these two or three occasions, which gives her an unfair advantage over the others. If she wins, it doesn't tell you that she is the best for it.
So you think math is not math when you do it infrequently?
@@willaimoconnell9430
Just look at Bednarek..
@@rogertrygg5485
You may have a point there.
48.7 and 22.3
Calling it right now
love sydney but i really want to see marileidy win !
Again Martia is the Michael Johnson of women 400meter runners!
you said the Valerie Brisco won the 1984 200m/400m double with a 400m time of 51.42 lol she ran 48.83 which was the american record for over 20 years until Sanye Richards broke it with 48.70
I Hope she takes the 200’more seriously. Her 200 is special. People are just eager to see her break the 400 record but she should really hold on that. Her 200 with actual training could be sub 21 tbh
Sub 47. After seeing Jakob smash the 3k record by 3 seconds I feel like anything is possible these days.
Sub 48 WILL happen ! Add that to what I think will be a 21.8 200 and this could be an epic weekend
I’ll be shocked if she actually competes both races. My money says she’ll only run one or the other
All these people talking up Paulino just because they raced ONCE and she beat SML in an event SML doesn't typically run. Pffft. SML is building a GOAT status right under their noses. It's a case of denial.
no one is talking up a woman who ran a 48.17
It'll be difficult to beat Paulino, she's tough.
McLaughlin true rival is her own WR.
Sydney "No limits" Mclaughlin can do what ever she puts her mind to, thats my belive.
If she is tuning in to beat the WR in 400 m, I believe its a matter of time before she breaks it 💪😊Also it completely blew my mind how fast she was in 200 m 🤪
400m i’m hoping she finished it with a new american record, for the 200m i’m not sure she will run this event
I just knew something would happen for me not to see Sydney run
I would love to see someone do the 100, 200 and 400 then both relays.
Little mistake. Paulino's time was 48:17, not 49:17 as said at 7:13 minute of the video.
I really think Sydney could go under 48. It's going down
no chance
Sydney may have run sub 48 in the 4x400m relay but the conversion time to a flat 400m is at least 0.5 secs and more regularly accepted to be 0.7secs at least. I think low 48 is more likely for Sydney.
@@paladinfx3083 yeah, low 48 can happen, but surely not under 48
@@paladinfx3083I mean Brussels does have a reputation of being a fast track.
@@paladinfx3083she also had done multiple heats in the hurdles and relays at that point.
In the 4x4 she had nobody even close to her so it’s safe to say if she had competition that it would have pushed her to run faster that day.
Not saying she will but she is definitely capable of it.
Take it to the bank.. Sydney will break the American record.
She may break 48… WR isn’t impossible but it’s been standing that long for a reason
The greatest blessing that Sydney has is her potential. This seems to be an era of record breaking. I recall that not too long ago a woman named Bol took down a long standing indoor 400m record - I don't think anyone predicted that one this year.
she is so odd, and that is a good thing when she is outright on full blast sprinting she makes it look effortless
Valerie Brisco ran 48.83 for the 400m in 1984
New WR!!!!
no chance
Then you woke up
Sydney will be running 2 "promotional" races in Brussels that aren't DL sanctioned finals.
Sydney is great alright, but I don't see her beating Paulino anytime soon.
Sidney is a GIRL ! OK ?? that other person looks like a dude ,,,,
