I love the design of that, very professional looking. I made a more industrial looking travel Barby a few years back from an army surplus parts bin, I made the grill almost identical to yours but the grate was just a bent at the ends piece of heavy expanded metal. I put full length detachable legs on it so that it could free stand. Used it until I left the country, wish I still had it.
I love this idea! I miss Japanese street food from when I lived there 2000-2006. You've inspired me to make one too. Only change I'm going to make (because of my OCD) is too layout the perforations and still using a step bit. Cheers!
Ooooh you should make a second grate that rests extra close to those coals!! Maybe one that takes up half the length so you can have another half at the full height. Great video!

I am Turkish and I got used to using rectangular bbq’s aswel just like this one and its very popular in Turkey too hence why I have mentioned my nationality. However, you technically do not need the top grill, if your skewers are long enough to reach to both ends with extra bits like you also had, to turn the food around like you did, and you can cook it on the open fire. We usually use the grill for burger (köfte) type of patties from mince. I mean you can still use the grill without skewers and flip the meat with thongs too. I would have also gone for two quotes of spray paint but thats just me being extra and wanting my bbq to look perfect like the Football World Cup 😂😂 coz for us the bbq is like a world cup. There is a region called Adana in Turkey, which is where my parents are from, and they have a saying “a person from Adana always saves his barbecue first in the instance that there is an earthquake, then the rest would follow” 😂
Thank you. Yeah, TIG is better for smaller stuff but also can be just as good on big stuff. I find TIG moves around less while tacking as you can control the heat so much more. I probably could have done this whole thing with MIG but the truth is I was to get better at my TIG welding so I did a fair bit of that as well. They are both so different from each-other yet just do the same thing. 👍

Yeah, mig is definitely a good one to learn on. Good welds come quicker on a mig and it’s useful quickly. There are still things I wouldn’t trust to my tig skills. Yet. 👍
Yeah I’m thinking about that. Might be nice for cleaning too. I also might extend the legs on the inside grate so the food is closer to the coals. I’m hoping that would allow me to use just a thin layer of charcoal instead of 2-3”👍

I litterally almost cussed at my friend the other day because I asked him if he knew who you are and he said no. I mean this man deserves a lot more praise than he gets I mean how does he only have less than 250000 subs he deserves to be on 20,000,000.
I wanted a similar thing for my 'porch of cookers', as I love to cook outside as well. I made mine out of 1/4" plate and the shape of a drywall pan, used to do that professionally, so i kinda stuck n design. Works perfect except it's too darn heavy, haha. It will be around more than likely for generations to come. I like the term yakatori for mine, don't know or care if that's correct but that's what I call it. Enjoy

If you are using skewers you may not need the grate, removes chance of the meat adhering. Just make sure to soak wooden/bamboo skewers in water (~20 min) first.

Imagine how much less welding you would have needed if you cut out the entire box in one large plus-shaped piece from a sheet instead of five separate pieces and just folded all the walls up from the bottom rectangular.
It is very bad idea to use BBC-Building to show us how this steel cutter works and that unprofessional soldering machine. No soldering is needed !!! if you thought a bit , you may build this box by bending the sheet you have the box missing the small sides, them you make the small sides with rectangular surroundings fit into the sides , then secure them with 4 screws Same thing ventilation cover, you do not need to solder anything , just put 6 screws as guide and fit two vertical screws into two horizonal line on the external plates, this line will one inch wide and 3 mm width and can be done by any drill

Nice work. Little curious, wy do you use tig and then mig weld on different spots. Is tig better on detailed work?
Thank you. Yeah, TIG is better for smaller stuff but also can be just as good on big stuff. I find TIG moves around less while tacking as you can control the heat so much more. One potential upgrade would be a large opening (possibly on one of the short sides) to access the coals without removing the grate.
