haven't heard this in so many years..my friend and i loved this song..but i didn't joe walsh was singing this as many times i watched the video in the days..lol..one of the pioneers of the talkbox as heard on hear..love it.
Thanks, you Rock N' Rule for uploading this! But MAN, does someone need to remaster the A/V of this awesome '80s music-video! Mr. Walsh...? Hello, Mr. Walsh...? **shrugs** C'mon, somebody, somebody, c'mon!...
Very cool that Vitals and Perry are in the video too. The song fell short of the Top 40 unfortunately, but a damn good video for 1983. And a great theme - how your brain can turn to mush after hours and hours of playing video games.
Here is a list of all the games I used to play at the video game arcade back in the 1980's! Defender, Asteroids, Missile Command, Berserk, Joust, Street Fighter, Tron, Lady Bug, Ghosts and Goblins, Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Super Mario Brothers, Mike Tyson's Punch out, Altered Beasts, Ms.Pac Man, Q-Bert, Galaga, Space Invaders, Burger Time, Paper Boy, Splatter House, Moon Patrol, Centipede, Donkey Kong Jr., Spy Hunter, 1942, Dig Dug, Frogger, Zaxxon, Tempest, Pole Position, Pitfall, Double Dragon! Did I forget anything?
First time I ever saw this on HBO's Video Jukebox between movies,I was wondering about if he'd felt embarrassed making this video. And that guy saying how he "likes space age whiz kids!" needs watching as long as he's in that room.
And now they are docking their spacecraft to the ISS, buying Caribbean islands, bribing Russian politicians and making the unlikliest blockbuster comic book based movies. Among other things...
This is kind of terrible. Yet it was a an artist's view of the world around him at the time, so it was not so bad after all. Gotta respect Joe Walsh for all of his forays into music's dark corners.
+Jack's Pick Phone The audio on this is horrible. The song as it sounded on the album was really good. Quirky but funky. One of Joe's lesser-known masterpieces.
Jack's Pick Phone: Like any other "generation gap" song, it's about one era dying (in this case, the pinball generation) while being unable to understand the succeeding generation, and complaining about how they're "not like we were". Joe Walsh just imparts a particular sarcastic humor into it.
It's irreverently, purposefully bad in the same way The Tubes "Keyboard Kids", Rundgren's, 'Utopia' B-sides or "Music Time", by Styx, is. Only using rock/techno conceits to get a thematic message and narrative across. Nowadays, taste being down the slide rule as far as it is, younger generations look to things like the "Hamilton"-soundtrack to achieve the same dopamine release and profundity. And we wonder why the country is unseaming apart.
@Jack's Pick Phone: "This is kind of terrible." Heh, uh-huh. Next you'll be saying even more sensible and tasteful things like _Miley Cyrus is the greatest musicer person EVAR!!1!1!!!!111!_ Oh, great! Give us another one! "Gotta respect Joe Walsh for all of his forays into music's dark corners." Hey, hey, now you're talkin'! Say more things like that now hehehehehehe
And by the way Walsh, there is no "Short block chevy" it`s Small Block Chevy. Short block means a engine with no heads on it so it wouldn`t have "cruised" very far.
I was around 10 yrs old living in Los Angeles when this came out. Used to play at the video arcade all the fuckin time! I used to get pissed off when I was playing Q-Bert and some other asshole kid would come up behind me and put his quarter up on the bottom of the console screen and say! I got next! Little bastards!
Very prescient, Joe. These days, everyone I know walks around staring blankly at small glowing rectangular screens in their hands, occasionally tapping at the screen with a thumb. Totally fucking oblivious to the actual world around them, absorbed in.... what? An empty-headed missive from a friend, playing some time-waster game like Bingo or slots. Text messaging, a pile of shit. It's a smart PHONE, right? Why not just call the person you want to communicate with and talk? That way you're not concerned with spelling, you can hear inflection in someone's voice, you can interact on the fly. Talk may be cheap, but texting is inane. And you kids get the hell off my lawn. (waves cane)
@The Frankle Friends In a disaster, texting uses less of the available cell phone bandwidth so your "I'm ok" or "We need help SOS" messages are more likely to get through than a phone call.
This was the coolest song to hit the air waves that year. I went right out and bought this cassette when it came out. Only Joe Walsh could come up with this song!!
Love it. This always sounded like Henley's "Dirty Laundry", but out of context. Like when you hear a song coming from another car, and it sounds familiar, but you can't place it. I think that's what Joe is like in real life.
All time favorite! please don't ever delete this one , rotten 80's pre-CGI-HD video resolution but terriffic sound quality and all.........(if you have a pair of decent speakers)!!!!
Dude from the 60's who grew up with parents from the 40's trashing whatever new thing the kids were into (like his music) basically doing the same thing by making fun of stuff kids were into in the early 80's. I get a kick out of the fact those same 'space age whiz kids' demolished the predatory music business he and the Eagles helped build. Karma.
arcade mother ship monsters, laser beam glass filled eyes, full on space age madness, make believe satellite skies woh woh woh woh! gimme quarters, quarters I need quarters. real life yeh! keep pumping joe........
14 when this came out. Been looking for it, I miss the 80's
83 was so great!
I remember listening to this song on 96 Rock klpx back in 83
Haven't heard this since highschool 83 was my junior year. Sounds very different now but still rocks
I think I had this 45... along with PAC Man Fever and all the video game related stuff back then.
I SO miss the 80s. MTV was a beast!
yep, mtv actually stood for music television. now, it's just basically Jerry Springer.
MTV-39 years on the air now.15 years of actual music videos.
The 21st century is so dull and boring compaired to the 80s
I named my business "Whiz Kid" because of this song.
Walsh is a freaking genius.
Smoking Joe funk # 49
Best album title EVER! "You bought it. You name it."
WACKO! I loved that game! It's so damn obscure now.

Joe Vitale not Vitals lol
Wish there was a better quality version of this music video... maybe 720p or HQ
Mr 🤖 roboto Joe Walsh
I ❤️ IT
This song is so weird. I love it! Threw that voice box in it, and still made it radio-friendly for the times.
"Workers....." lmao...
I used to LOVE this song!!!!!
entered Billboard June 11, 1983 ..reached #52
I bought the 45 in its 3rd week on Top 100.
This song is so friggin good. I first saw this video as part of a preview before I saw enders game in theaters. Still jam to this all of the time.
it was asinine yet hypnotic
Trying to hepp it get into algorithms rotation.
This being better than Pac-Man Fever, that's for sure!
I clicked on this video, thinking it was related to the tv show Whiz Kids.
:) Love the song!
Peter is in the feels
God Damn it. I want my MTV !
Earliest known Walter Day reference in caricature: The striped referee jersey...The Whiz Kids.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE! Nov.20th :)

Does anyone have this in better quality?

@Jason Gilmore:
You played 'Mike Tyson's Punch Out' and 'Pitfall!' in the arcades? ???
@@codeoptimizationware2803 Yes! In Los Angeles they had both games in the arcade.
defined the era...lol
This was the thing form 1981 to 1987. The Arcade Phenom.
Is there anyplace today that still has an arcade? If so, where is it, and what is its name?
Funspot, Weirs Beach, NH. Living shrine to my summer vacations :)
Wax Web Tell me more about it. How many machines are there? Does it have the classics and pinball? How good is this place?
There's a bar in Toronto called Tilt, filled with pinball machines and arcade cabinets. $5 cover and the games are free.

Awesome song! Also, is that Mr. T is the video?
Seriously, I'd like to meet the two people who gave this two stars.

@pdx1chris
I look for this a few times a year , its a rare video and if it aint on youtube where you gonna find it?
From Obsolete Generation
Perhaps one of the most bizarre, weird and unusual songs of the '80s ...together with "Mother" of Andy Summers (The Police)
And now they are docking their spacecraft to the ISS, buying Caribbean islands, bribing Russian politicians and making the unlikliest blockbuster comic book based movies. Among other things...
Oh dear
Now, it's woke age confused kids
oh no ... "Cocaine's A Hell Of A Drug" (Rick James).
This is kind of terrible. Yet it was a an artist's view of the world around him at the time, so it was not so bad after all. Gotta respect Joe Walsh for all of his forays into music's dark corners.

before Tom Petty took over as the videos to watch, Joe Walsh had some of the funniest stuff ever to ooze out of the MTV. wheres nina blackwood ? hoTT.
Bandersnatch?
Last on my list to watch - already hit all the rest of the Black Mirror episodes

you sir are a douchebag!
Joes enunciation isn't Clear, Short Box Chevy, or Short Black Chevy
@Herr Taft:
Wow, that guy IS a douchebag! What a jackass! What a douchebag! hehehehehe
Ok, this song exists. It's not great, but Frye and Henley had some experimental stuff too that was fluf.
Since I am open minded for a remake of this song, Justin Bieber is terrific to sing this song.
not his best
I prefer the song Do The Donkey Kong. Has a better beat than this song. This song is just kind of annoying
What video game is 2:01 from?
Back when the M in MTV stood for music. It is a joke now. Met Joe in 97 and is very friendly BTW.
Back when the M in MTV stood for money which it was losing more and more of every year.
MTV-41 years on the air.
15 years of actual music videos.

When I first heard this song I thought he was singing about Space Age Whiskey🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
Luv it! God I haven't heard this since the early 80's!- at the arcade!!! ;) joe is badass
I actually remember this video and was looking for it for a long time. Nice!
Joe's commentary was far ahead of his time...

Hilarious fake comments 'love this song, so original'
That 90's song "Connected," sure seems to borrow a lot from this song.
I was a junior in high school then. :)
Was also an Arcade Space Cadet and Mall Rat.
VERY VERY disappointed this wasn't performed at the last Eagles concert... they we're playin his greatest hits... or so i thought 😔
Lol what makes you think henley and vince gill are gonna play this shit, “no thanks joe just play the four songs we allow you to play”
Damn they were talking bout my generation! Long live generation X!
SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw this playing @ Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas in much higher quality, so it exists somewhere...
Yes, that's where I actually first saw this*. This version is horrible.
