I've come to love this song. Back in the 80's I was like: 'who is this old guy who doesn't seem to understand us kids?' Now I feel _exactly_ the same way.
This was the coolest song to hit the air waves that year. I went right out and bought this cassette when it came out. Only Joe Walsh could come up with this song!!
Thanks, you Rock N' Rule for uploading this! But MAN, does someone need to remaster the A/V of this awesome '80s music-video! Mr. Walsh...? Hello, Mr. Walsh...? **shrugs** C'mon, somebody, somebody, c'mon!...
Love it. This always sounded like Henley's "Dirty Laundry", but out of context. Like when you hear a song coming from another car, and it sounds familiar, but you can't place it. I think that's what Joe is like in real life.
I was around 10 yrs old living in Los Angeles when this came out. Used to play at the video arcade all the fuckin time! I used to get pissed off when I was playing Q-Bert and some other asshole kid would come up behind me and put his quarter up on the bottom of the console screen and say! I got next! Little bastards!
Very cool that Vitals and Perry are in the video too. The song fell short of the Top 40 unfortunately, but a damn good video for 1983. And a great theme - how your brain can turn to mush after hours and hours of playing video games.
haven't heard this in so many years..my friend and i loved this song..but i didn't joe walsh was singing this as many times i watched the video in the days..lol..one of the pioneers of the talkbox as heard on hear..love it.
All time favorite! please don't ever delete this one , rotten 80's pre-CGI-HD video resolution but terriffic sound quality and all.........(if you have a pair of decent speakers)!!!!
arcade mother ship monsters, laser beam glass filled eyes, full on space age madness, make believe satellite skies woh woh woh woh! gimme quarters, quarters I need quarters. real life yeh! keep pumping joe........
Very prescient, Joe. These days, everyone I know walks around staring blankly at small glowing rectangular screens in their hands, occasionally tapping at the screen with a thumb. Totally fucking oblivious to the actual world around them, absorbed in.... what? An empty-headed missive from a friend, playing some time-waster game like Bingo or slots. Text messaging, a pile of shit. It's a smart PHONE, right? Why not just call the person you want to communicate with and talk? That way you're not concerned with spelling, you can hear inflection in someone's voice, you can interact on the fly. Talk may be cheap, but texting is inane. And you kids get the hell off my lawn. (waves cane)
@The Frankle Friends In a disaster, texting uses less of the available cell phone bandwidth so your "I'm ok" or "We need help SOS" messages are more likely to get through than a phone call.
Here is a list of all the games I used to play at the video game arcade back in the 1980's! Defender, Asteroids, Missile Command, Berserk, Joust, Street Fighter, Tron, Lady Bug, Ghosts and Goblins, Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Super Mario Brothers, Mike Tyson's Punch out, Altered Beasts, Ms.Pac Man, Q-Bert, Galaga, Space Invaders, Burger Time, Paper Boy, Splatter House, Moon Patrol, Centipede, Donkey Kong Jr., Spy Hunter, 1942, Dig Dug, Frogger, Zaxxon, Tempest, Pole Position, Pitfall, Double Dragon! Did I forget anything?
I saw this playing @ Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas in much higher quality, so it exists somewhere... Edited (2024): Found it: ruclips.net/video/_OtO2bUgcz4/видео.html&ab_channel=ArborVideo
First time I ever saw this on HBO's Video Jukebox between movies,I was wondering about if he'd felt embarrassed making this video. And that guy saying how he "likes space age whiz kids!" needs watching as long as he's in that room.

Best album title EVER! "You bought it. You name it."
I’m here 2024❤
@ 3:02, the hat Joe is wearing, ILBTs!
This was the coolest song to hit the air waves that year. I went right out and bought this cassette when it came out. Only Joe Walsh could come up with this song!!

83 was so great!
I remember listening to this song on 96 Rock klpx back in 83
Back when quarters were so much more than just a coin. 🤩
Thanks, you Rock N' Rule for uploading this!
But MAN, does someone need to remaster the A/V of this awesome '80s music-video!

I'm glad I was born in 74 growing up in the 80s.
@@TimeVextorX May you stay RAD!
Not sure why this appeared in my so many years later but I love joe

I never connected those "dots"! Thanks, I think? Fortunately I love both songs from that FM/ MTV/Me being 18 yrs old Golden Age.
@@billmcginley After reading what I wrote, it was a weird compliment. I'd rather hang out with Joe than Henley, let's put it that way (as if 😬).
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️

Luv it! God I haven't heard this since the early 80's!- at the arcade!!! ;) joe is badass
VERY VERY disappointed this wasn't performed at the last Eagles concert... they we're playin his greatest hits... or so i thought 😔
Lol what makes you think henley and vince gill are gonna play this shit, “no thanks joe just play the four songs we allow you to play”
This being better than Pac-Man Fever, that's for sure!
SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back when the M in MTV stood for music. It is a joke now. Met Joe in 97 and is very friendly BTW.
Back when the M in MTV stood for money which it was losing more and more of every year.
MTV-41 years on the air.
15 years of actual music videos.
@@doughesson
I miss those days.
I think I had this 45... along with PAC Man Fever and all the video game related stuff back then.

Joe Vitale not Vitals lol
I actually remember this video and was looking for it for a long time. Nice!
Haven't heard this since highschool 83 was my junior year. Sounds very different now but still rocks
I remember the first time I seen this video, I was stationed in Baumholder Germany, it was awesome!
I SO miss the 80s. MTV was a beast!
yep, mtv actually stood for music television. now, it's just basically Jerry Springer.
MTV-39 years on the air now.15 years of actual music videos.
The 21st century is so dull and boring compaired to the 80s
Classic
One of my all-time favorites!!!
The name of the album or cassette was "You bought it,You name it"
.
Damn they were talking bout my generation! Long live generation X!
When I first heard this song I thought he was singing about Space Age Whiskey🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for your love and support ♥️❤️♥️
Walsh is a freaking genius.

I named my business "Whiz Kid" because of this song.

Wish there was a better quality version of this music video... maybe 720p or HQ
The BEAT to this is TRUE Joe Walsh...mouth guitar & all...AMAZING!!!
WACKO! I loved that game! It's so damn obscure now.
Damn. This video really makes me miss the the early 80's so much.
Back when "Music Video" meant that literally. Looks like it was shot on the family camcorder. And I love it
It probably was.
In 8th grade when this was out...so many yrs ago!
Totally predicted the future. Can't wait to see what Joe comes up with next.
Joe Walsh Amazing!!
Very much the snapshot of the early video game movement.
entered Billboard June 11, 1983 ..reached #52
I bought the 45 in its 3rd week on Top 100.
This song is so friggin good. I first saw this video as part of a preview before I saw enders game in theaters. Still jam to this all of the time.
I miss the gold mine at Northlake Mall I used to admire the guy with the big quarter dispenser cylinder on his belt
From Obsolete Generation
Joe's commentary was far ahead of his time...
Old man yells at cloud.
I used to LOVE this song!!!!!
Never seen this video, but love the song. One of the first songs I ever bought on 45! Thanks for putting this up here!
i love this song
This song is so weird. I love it! Threw that voice box in it, and still made it radio-friendly for the times.
"Workers....." lmao...
Hilarious fake comments 'love this song, so original'
this was my dad's favorite video on mtv.when he was in hs
klassik joe walsh!!!!
Joe Walsh does "New Wave" to no avail...😐🫤😟
& comes right down & lands on the Space Age Ground
80s flashback? LOOK NO FURTHER, ah to be 13 again...
it was asinine yet hypnotic
Hell yeah, pay those space age dues... faves button!!

Great video. It would be terrific if they made a remake of that song by other various artists. I am open minded to this all the time.
Does anyone have this in better quality?
Earliest known Walter Day reference in caricature: The striped referee jersey...The Whiz Kids.
God Damn it. I want my MTV !
Peter is in the feels
@djdavemick ...same here great tune!!!!
1:35 Hey, the memorable Donkey Kong !
I clicked on this video, thinking it was related to the tv show Whiz Kids.
this was when joe was still getting lit up all the time.
The song I would have least expected.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE! Nov.20th :)
The Pinnacle of 1980s videos and video games LOL

That 90's song "Connected," sure seems to borrow a lot from this song.

Yes, that's where I actually first saw this*. This version is horrible.
*I'm embarrassed for never hearing this song.
Marc Weintraub Found a better quality one: (Vimeo)
Yeah I saw it at an Alamo Drafthouse before a movie played. I was like "WOW WHAT IS THIS???"
Mr Space Age Mr Robot 'O' Skid Kids
Donkey Kong
This song was practically released at the same time the video game industry had crashed.
Space age Wizz N SKid in.

This was the thing form 1981 to 1987. The Arcade Phenom.
Is there anyplace today that still has an arcade? If so, where is it, and what is its name?
Funspot, Weirs Beach, NH. Living shrine to my summer vacations :)
Wax Web Tell me more about it. How many machines are there? Does it have the classics and pinball? How good is this place?
There's a bar in Toronto called Tilt, filled with pinball machines and arcade cabinets. $5 cover and the games are free.

This song has such a strong air of "you damn kids and your vidya" but it's so damn catchy I don't care.
First time I ever saw this on HBO's Video Jukebox between movies,I was wondering about if he'd felt embarrassed making this video.
And that guy saying how he "likes space age whiz kids!" needs watching as long as he's in that room.
Puttanother quarter in!
Is that Herb Tarlek at 0:58?
Pay those space age don't, do nots
I loved Defender, Zaxxon and Tempest...WILL SOMEBODY FIND ME A FREAKIN TIME MACHINE?!!!
Had spent most money on GORF. Then I got the C 64 and still play it - Zaxxon too
It's called an emulator.
