Jim is an ghostly crystal maker. Kinda like a Crystal... Ghost. One might call him The Crystal Ghost.

I was dying the whole episodes, so much memories when I played with my college friends 30 years ago. And translated to these times was amazing.
"If you want to be fully Invisible, you have to strip down first." Shows up to Battles dressed in a Robe with nothing on underneath.
Also, an Incredible Fighter that can summon a knife out of thin air can be quite dangerous.
I can't believe Troy chose a sensible name! I didn't know he had it in him!

Used to play this in a friend’s basement in the 80s!
I've played MSH as recently as 2016.... it was a pretty dark mutant campaign. My character was much better at roleplay than combat with Omni-knowledge (AM) as her main power. She also had Telepathy (GD).
Super stoked for more of this game. I love how obtuse the character creation gets. Everyone wound up with such great and funny characters!
I had this players handbook as a young kiddo in the 90's and always wanted to play it! Great to see the GCP taking it on.
Thanks for unearthing this treasure. The Marvel RPG was a staple of my middle school life, along with BattleTech and D&D2E. Your commitment to nostalgia is Shift-Z level!

So excited that you guys are playing this. The first RPG I played was D&D but then I found Marvel Superheroes in 1984 and played that game more than anything else for the next 5 years. Thanks guys.

I was pulling hard for Skid's allergy to be salt, so he could only do lakes and rivers.
Omg at work and crying from these super zero's.
I'm not sure why this isn't seen as badass. If there was a villain who could turn people or objects to crystal then shatter it with vibrations, he'd be a real concern. Especially if he's invisible at the time. Villains like this could bring down massive bridges by shattering cables or structures. Now, if he's a hero, that makes villain hideouts, armor, and vehicles obsolete.
Also, a robot that can draw metallic shrapnel to him, craft it into a weapon, then shoot it out like a sniper is a problem. Small metal objects include steel ball bearings, razor blades, needles, etc. I can say for a fact that having a wall of flechettes coming at me is a very bad day.
Furthermore, the mutants Rhodium producing ability means she can craft armor and isn't affected (much) by the robot's magnetic abilities. This also means that mutants with stronger magnetic control have severe difficulty affecting her. Can we also talk about the fact that she doesn't need to BREATHE for 10 hours? So he can just stop breathing when exposed to poison gasses, and can make rhodium helmets over her nose and mouth without concern for breathing.
Also, "extra organs" doesn't say "Extra human organs". So Skid's water breathing might be gills. It's also an excuse to develop new abilities that occur in other animals, like keen senses, poison, protective mucus, noxious spray, poisonous skin, protective gel around the brain, or anything else that occurs in nature. Hell, since he has water breathing, why not sonar/echolocation?
The power level to start may be weak, but the potential is massive.

a villains base could always be protected by unobtainium which as everyone knows is resistant to the effects
Our group used AD&D rule system to play super heroes until this came out. Love this game!
Troy could walk beaches for the jewelry shop, skid can get deep ocean pearls.
The jewelers could be this decades hot team up.
Totally feeling the Great Lake Avengers vibe from this group and I'm loving it

I remember I rolled a character who was 5’7” and his power was being permanently stuck at giant size.
10% bigger.
His power was to be the height of an nba shooting guard.

I remember his team-up with Mr Decent; the guy who's more than averagely stretchy.
Used to play this a lot back in the 90's. The first characters we ever made were randomly generated, with ranks all over the place. We named that team "The Feeble Four."
Nobody messes with the "pretty reasonable" Hulk.

Of course Jason we play Marvel Superheroes to be as normal and powerless as possible, that's the purpose of playing a superhero game.

Troy’s gone from one of my favourite GM’s to one of favourite players! His characters always end up being grossly comical without detracting to much from the stories

I love the description of the Water Breathing power from the Advanced rules:
This is a wimp Power. Face it. When the great hero parties take place, and Ulterior-Motive Man asks you what you do, if you say, "I breathe water" you end up wearing a full fishbowl.
Wasn't a fan of character creation episodes until this one. Instant creative chemistry. I hope you guys get weird with this one.
Jim's vibration ability would tie in to the jewelry store joke, with the sonic baths for cleaning jewelry lol

One the one hand, I'm kind of bummed out that the GM decided on a low level game. On the other hand, not enough superhero games are street level. Either way, this series is going to ROCK and I'm so excited to see what happens in the next episode.

Playing the super hero game and the getting told that everyone is going to be the guy from new mutants that was really good at languages (he should have gotten a job at the UN and not go to xaviers school) is a real kick in the teeth :) everybody seem so frustrated with their low rolls and crappy powers during character creation despite the premise being that they are getting the kitten out of the tree kind of heroes and not stopping galactus kind of heroes
Any time Troy throws out a range of times for the length of an ep he's running, the formula is: take the longest time he suggested, no matter absurd it sounds, and double it and you'll generally get close to the runtime. Hahaha.
This looks like so much fun, I haven't played this game in a long time. Oh and how could you miss Spider-man's agility, he's the Amazing Spiderman LOL not the incredible... Great video! I'll have to subscribe and check out the other awesomeness.

Also fun fact the way ultrasound works is by vibrating crystals and interpreting the echoes so Jim could start a medical practice with his abilities 😂

I love these ordinary heroes 😂 Alicia’s character should have gotten to create air as her element. It would have made sense with her self sustenance and she could have been like an air bender. That would have been awesome

Loved Mirror, Mirror name. Think Jim should have gone with Clear Conscious Man. Also Skid should have been Bubble Boy and Troy the Sheet Storm. They are having a great time starting this one.

I played this once my character was an amoral geneticist with a pet amphibious goldfish who spent most of her spare time trying to get a gene sample from the asgardian on the team. For some reason this game always makes me think of another who's name I can never remember. The premise of that one was a portal to an alien dimension begins to open for an invasion but it causes humans to develop super powers. They have 3 categories (A) who are DC Superman or Wonderwoman power levels (B) who are marvel X-Men and (C) who are mystery men power levels like being a really good bowler. The portal opens but humanity is ready the A class heroes have prepared, the A class are waiting, the A class complete their transformation into the aliens shock troops and rip the B class heroes to shreds leaving just the C class like you to stand against them.
The marvel Faserip game is one of the greatest games ever.
At approximately 19:50 - Spider-Man has Amazing (50) Agility, not Incredible (40), as stated, since the first edition of the MSH RPG. :)
When it was said the invisibly would be 20ish minus, I was going that would mean a secret d20 minutes each use. Lol

1:01:02 I get trying to balance everything out and not have people bashing through the session because they’re busted from the jump.. but kinda hard to fully enjoy the live play as it’s kinda cutting out a massive chunk of the game.. I’ll continue to watch to see how these 3 sessions end.

He did explain multiple times in the video that the characters are designed to be very weak. He also warned that some of the powers were too powerful and they would be changed.
I feel like these two should update the marvel super heroes system into a Paizo product licensed by Marvel. It’s in need of a revision. I’d definitely buy it and play it if it was more accessible and up to date. If it focuses on the comics and makes the MCU an optional material. Oh and notice I said a Paizo product licensed by Marvel, nowhere did I use the word Disney in there.

The modifiers to initiative and the character's speed is right out of the old MSH book.

Her background is one of the standard backgrounds of MS Teams, I believe. The software often has difficulty cutting out the real background, which causes those glitches.

Funny enough, I actually asked her about this, and she said it was one of a few that she was good with. I have NO idea why I kept pronouncing it that way.

Was looking forward to this until they made it average characters.
I enjoy the show and the podcast. This was probably my favorite TTRPG from the 80s and while I understand the game mechanics are dated, its still a solid play. I'm kind of astonished that a professional the caliber of Jason Bulmhan didn't give this game a fair shake and instead created a spoof out of it. The game is so much more. Oh well.
And for crying out loud - its Ah-LEE-sha!!!!! Everyone else is saying it right!!!
