THIS is how you treat a restored or at least somewhat restored squarebody, no Shitty chrome rims, not lifted 15 inches. Not murdered out. Doesn't have an 8 inch tip. Just quality building,if I could ever get my hands on this truck I'd drive til the day I die
Nope. It's tight but they fit perfect. I did smash down the body seam with a hammer and shoehorn a little of the sheet metal near the corner of the engine where the coolant temp sensor sticks out.
You really might want to consider not using those type of filters if you haven't already switched. Turbo charged motors will suck dirt right through those type filters, Get you and AFE type dry filter or something more substantial. Love the truck, I have an 89 I've decided I want to do this too so I can haul a bigger rv.
& I try explain to people same thing?, that squarebodys actually Did last up intell 88-91 but people seem they Don't Do there thorough research?, & just argure with you that they were only made from 73-87 But it was just the Chavy Silverado's that were upgraded in singal cab & same with the GMC Sierra's.
A 4lb sledge to flatten down the seam that sticks out like an 1" that is about half way up the firewall. I don't even know if I needed to but there isn't much reason not too and it gives that much more clearance for the top back of the engine near the head.
1973 was the first year for those generation GMC & Chevy fullsize truck models & 1991 was the last year for those generation crew cabs like you said, & same with the Suburbans, Blazers, & Jimmys. 1987 was the last year for the 1/2 ton & 3/4 regular cabs & 1989 was the last year for the 1 ton regular cabs.
Look in my profile thing and you will see a link to another video I did on the tachometer. I think your best bet would be to figure out how to make your pickup see one pulse per revolution (either add a notch or add a magnet, depending on what your tack is seeing on the gear) and either run a old Chevy (like 6.2 diesel tach I think) they only want 1 per revolution, or you might be able to get one of them kits from diesel conversion specialists or destroked that include pulse ring and the sensor and everything although they are pricey. If I was to do it again I would do it my way though.
You need to either build a crossmember or buy a crossmember kit to mount the engine. You dont have to modify the frame other than cutting off the old mounts. I dont know what you mean by electrical issues.
Ik this video was posted awhile ago but I was wondering how you fit the inter cooler either in front or in back of the radiator support and if you had to cut the radiator support pillars in order to do so
Needs alot of trimming, intercooler sits outside the radiator support while the radiator is inside.. I built an entire core support for mine and will do a video on it in spring
Nice truck. I have a 1988 GMC sierra 3500 flatbed dually with 350 motor. Unfortunately, my truck is 2 wheel drive and has front coil springs. Was your truck a four wheel drive already or did you convert yours to leaf springs and 4 wheel? I have a front dana 60 with matching rear end gears. Can you convert these coiled spring trucks over fairly easily?
Mine was already 4x4. But There are some guys that make a badass kit. They are called CutBrothers. facebook.com/CutBros/ I think DIY4X makes a kit too. All my brackets and hangers and hardware is Diy4X. I highly recommend.
can u tell me how u converted from dually to single wheel in the back...exactly how u did it... are u in so. cali? if so would u mind if I take a look at it rig? thanks for the help bud and awesome rig..
Took out the stock GM 14 bolt axle and put in the rear axle out of the dodge. It is a Dana 70. I had to cut off the spring perch mounts with a torch and re weld them on at the right width for the chevy springs. Cut off the spring perches and weld them back on in the right spot and bolted it together with the same old ubolts (which is a no-no by the way). Adapt the brake lines with an adapter from chevy at the frame and put a new brake line hose down to the axle and thats it.
I have a somewhat detailed writeup of all of this on my thread here>>>>>>>>>>>>www.rme4x4.com/showthread.php?103231-Project-Big-Betty-Cummins-power-in-a-weekend-warrior
I just traded my dually bed for a regular bed at the junkyard and painted it. The dually fenders have a huge cut out and big holes where they bolt on so it would really not look good to take off the huge fenders.
+Terry Lape You have a close eye. Right now it is pretty tight and it had come in contact before. Right now im just careful to not flex the suspension too much. In the future I am going to use a Off Road Design 4" drop pitman arm to move the draglink down a little to clear the oil pan. I will rework the cross member and probably add more support from that cross member going to the rear. And lastly I am going to buy beefier front springs (im not sure which ones) to bring the front end a little more and Ill add some bump stops. As it sits I could just do bump stops and be done with it, but I cant to that.
It's a sweet rig. I'm building a 90 suburban right now. Dana 60 in front with the off road design crossover steering. I've been stressed about the clearance issue. Shoot me your email, I'll send pics. terrylape05@gmail.com

Hey man I have a question about clearances. Did you have any problems with the trans not fitting through the trans tunnel. Ive been bumming around looking at builds and its an issue that comes up from time to time. If so how did you fix it? Also are you running any kind of a lift on the truck or is it a stock setup on 35s?
As it sits in video it is about 3 or 4 inch lift. I didn't have any clearance issues with my NV4500 other than the shift tower part that sticks up with the shifter. I just cut a slightly larger hole which I had to do anyway for my transfer case shifters.
Not really. Im currently rebuilding the truck to make the intercooler and radiator fit with the stock grille. I am also swapping to the 73-78 style front end. Ill keep posting updates.

Jacob Savage like i have a 91 dodge cummins 5.9 out of a 91 D350. Im putting it in a 86 chevy c30 that im converting to 4x4 with a dana 60. The original trans is a getrag 5 speed. But im putting in a NV4500 and trying to find a NP205 transfer to bolt to the back. When you set your motor in on the engine mounts how did you figure out where to make your cross members for your trans and t case? And i have the same style engine mount plates as you and want to make he same dual engine mounts that you got. Is the motor centered on the original Gm mounting spots on the frame or is it back further?

Take the motor out and throw the rest of the truck away lol. You just run the chevy wires to the cummins motor and use chevy sending units. Thats if you feel like you want gauges for temperature and oil pressure. If not you just need to hook up a big wire to the starter and the chevy start wire to the solenoid and use a choke cable to shut the fuel off. Thats what i did anyway. I can throw the batteries on the curb, roll start it and drive it to New York today if I wanted.

The 5600 also doesnt suffer from the overdrive 5fth gear nut issue like tge 4500. Yes the 5600 are hard to get. In utah rebuildable cores are like 1000 and complete your up to 2000 and up. As far as i know they are a direct swap. Also the 5600 uses a bigger 13" clutch and flywheel. I upgraded my nv4500 to a 13" southbend clutch and flywheel while i was in there.

Because EVERY Cummins in EVERY truck sounds EXACTLY the same and it just F's up the audio. IF you hafta hear it run...then you're A. Not familiar B. Kinda low-brow Black Smoke Diesel type... Not starting it is a favor. There's no reason to.
I have heard some people talk crap on these style air filters before. I hope if I keep it oiled and clean it will do good. The Edelbrock seems to have great reviews. I have considered retrofitting a GM or Dodge air filter box from a newer truck?
Im in the process of doing a cummins swap but is it possible to set that tach to 1 pulse per revolution compared to your 8 pulses per 2 revolutions. my magneto is run off the timing pin on the pump. The magneto or pulse reader is off of a mack, im not sure what year but if u go on NAPA's website its on there, heres the link www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Tachometer-Sensor/_/R-NHA6569006_0396316716 But anyways is it possible to set it like that (1 pulse per 2 revolutions)?? Cummins swap and didn’t even start the engine 😕
Because EVERY Cummins in EVERY truck sounds EXACTLY the same and it just F's up the audio.
IF you hafta hear it run...then you're
A. Not familiar
B. Kinda low-brow Black Smoke Diesel type...
Not starting it is a favor. There's no reason to.
A rare sighing indeed.
Hell I've never had a problem with head on my truck and it don't even have a fan lol
The fan shoud will help if all hope you dont mind have half the fan out of the shoud
OK buddy thanks nice truck I can do the same just trying to cut some time lol
Needs a better air intake. That turbo will suck crap right through it. Very nice truck though. Would love to own it.
I have heard some people talk crap on these style air filters before. I hope if I keep it oiled and clean it will do good. The Edelbrock seems to have great reviews. I have considered retrofitting a GM or Dodge air filter box from a newer truck?
If you ever want to sell it. Let me know. Really don't have time to build one
I NEED THAT TRUCK :)
Nice.
🙂👍👍👍👍👍
Im in the process of doing a cummins swap but is it possible to set that tach to 1 pulse per revolution compared to your 8 pulses per 2 revolutions. my magneto is run off the timing pin on the pump. The magneto or pulse reader is off of a mack, im not sure what year but if u go on NAPA's website its on there, heres the link www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Tachometer-Sensor/_/R-NHA6569006_0396316716
But anyways is it possible to set it like that (1 pulse per 2 revolutions)?? If you could get back to me that would be great thanks!
Knew it was a manual
Sweet truck but from looks of it your gonna run out front shock travel .
