I used OEM Stihl rings, and crankshaft nuts. I used hylomar blue on all gaskets. It's gonn be awesome. I have a Sagenspezi 48" bar and chain that should be here soon. I also have a 48" Alaskan sawmill too so now I can start milling.

    Starting my swap the old 350 clocked out at 170k miles, I’m scared when it comes to the wiring ik you can start the thing with a screwdriver but It still looks like a mess under the hood of the donar truck I feel like this will be the hardest and most tedious part

    • @SAVAGEPATRIOT
      @SAVAGEPATRIOT 2 года назад

      Take the motor out and throw the rest of the truck away lol. You just run the chevy wires to the cummins motor and use chevy sending units. Thats if you feel like you want gauges for temperature and oil pressure. If not you just need to hook up a big wire to the starter and the chevy start wire to the solenoid and use a choke cable to shut the fuel off. Thats what i did anyway. I can throw the batteries on the curb, roll start it and drive it to New York today if I wanted.

    • @SAVAGEPATRIOT
      @SAVAGEPATRIOT 3 года назад

      Haha not very well. It kept siphoning from the right to the left tank. It was a headache. One would be bone dry and one would be overflowing. I should have just used a manual marine switch valve. Since this video I have gotten a large transfer tank that sits on the bed and feeds fuel. 80 gallon tank gives me good SHTF range.

    Could you please do a video kinda showing what you did with the hood release/core support/grill, and what it looks like? I have a 1982 squarebody and a 12 valve Cummins but I really want to run 1979 style front clip (I already have some of the pieces) with either inside or outside hood release for the older style front end but I am just curious because in your videos the grill was really blocking my view to see exactly what you did and how much room you have and also you mentioned that it shakes quite a bit, I was hoping maybe you could elaborate and show me how you have it and if you will do anything different. This one question is the only thing that has kept me from pulling the trigger on going with the 79 front. Thanks.

    How are these holding up? I'm about to pick up some of these and wondering if you like them off road and on road

    • @SAVAGEPATRIOT
      @SAVAGEPATRIOT 3 года назад

      Well about how I'd expect. One of the tread lugs is missing (presumably my fault) and some nicks and small gashes. Tread wear seems to be what I expected or maybe slightly worse. I'm down to about 75% tread but all my miles are towing, off roading ect and my alignment hasn't been perfect. I can tell the tread is a little softer than other brands but what can you expect for the price. I estimate these will last 25k of hard miles on a big truck like mine and maybe 35k as a commuter on something lighter. My next set I'm gonna try to save up more money for the Firestone Destination MT/2 or something similar. I dunno yet.

    What are your thoughts with going with the B52's and 5 inch pro comp lift as far as the ride quality goes? I am trying to decide whether I want to go that route or stick with the stock length springs for the weight of the Cummins. I was thinking about going with a 33" or 35" tire so I think I could maybe get some stock HD rear 52" springs with a B-52 kit to make that work. But if you don't think the ride is as good as stock length front springs under a Cummins then I wont go that route. I also considered getting custom HD springs made by Alcan. Thanks, Sean.

    • @SAVAGEPATRIOT
      @SAVAGEPATRIOT 3 года назад

      Any time you get a longer spring the ride is dramatically improved as was mine going from 48" to 52". The ultimate setup would be the B52 kit with custom Alcan springs. To save money Id probably go with a HD rear spring pack up front with the B52 kit and remove the overload springs. My setup my ride quality is about as good as you can get with a heavy ass front clip, winch and cummins. It rides better than most new one ton pickups and about the same as a newer 2500 chevy.

  • @Exoken-dx8br
    @Exoken-dx8br 3 года назад

    I've been flipping through all of your videos trying to see how you ended up using those three brackets in the front of the core support that you mount the grill to with that one middle bracket that also attaches to the hood latch and that front bottom grille valance. I am curious if you ended up being able to fit those brackets in and use them or if you modified them or if you made something else to hold your grill and latch in place to still fit your intercooler, radiator, ect. Btw this is one of the best Square Body Cummins swap channels ive found on the internet. Thank you very much for them and I hope to see some more of this beast in the future. Thanks, Sean

    • @SAVAGEPATRIOT
      @SAVAGEPATRIOT 3 года назад

      Thanks for your kind words. I did butcher the grill mounts. They are such a pain! In fact I need to pull the grill out and make new mounts because that shaky dang Cummins rattled the screws out like two weeks after I finished it and it's just been rattling loose on the bottom end ever since. I totally abandoned the cable good release and just kept the 70's style with the latch in the grille so I don't have to worry about the cable mechanism interfering with the intercooler. I suppose there is an inherent risk of the hood flying up but it weights like 100lbs and you can see between the hood and the cowl when it's up anyway, and there isn't anything under there that's easy to steal except for my air filter lol. Good luck!

    • @Exoken-dx8br
      @Exoken-dx8br 3 года назад

      @@SAVAGEPATRIOT They have an inner hood release you can get for the 77-80 trucks but you have to get all the 77+ inside hood latch parts for it. I want the 77+ inner hood release for security with a 79 front grill but I am worried about it interfering with the intercooler and ac condenser. I want to set up my core support like yours and I'll be using the 2nd gen dodge radiator, intercooler and ac condenser. I'm still curious on how you have the grill mounted.... were you able to get those three metal core support grill mounts in there between all those coolers and the grill? My truck is an 1982 but I have most of the stuff for the 79 front clip swap from my other truck. If there isn't a good way to mount the grill then maybe ill just stay with the 82 front, but the 1979 was my favorite.
