My dad worked on the crew cab line in Flint, Michigan when this truck was built. Often you can still find the "C/C" line sticker inside the drivers door on these. Very cool!!

I started off with the exact same srw 3+3 truck for my project, except it had a utility bed on it when I got it. Zero rust anywhere. Same forest service green over tan interior. 350, sm465, np205, 4.56 axles. I’ve swapped out the dented manual doors for power and put a good fleetside bed on it. Seeing this video has me motivated to get back to it. Thanks.

May I suggest Toyo MT 255 85 16's.... those tires will handle the weight of that truck and they're a true 33.5in tall tire. I run those on a 79 K20 with a HEAVY all steel flatbed on it.

I have a 87 K30 Army Truck M1028. It is my daily Driver, Just installed a LQ4 with heads and cam, 4L80E trans, Holley Terminator ECU, Vintage Air. and Dana 60 Axles. You can't Hurt that Truck.
That is one big truck...and a darn clean one, to boot! I remember seeing a couple of those('90 or '91)back when they were new @ the Chevy dealer I worked at...they were a bright yellowish green and were going to a rural fire department. Cool truck😎👍
sweet truck, im like you buff it and drive it. i couldn't do a Duramax swap just because of the cost, but i could do a 6.5. i have a 83 C20 with a 6.2 and i love that truck, has more then enough power and gets 22 mpg on the highway. please keep us posted on your truck. 👍👍👍👍
Very common vehicle in my part of the country, the smaller towns etc in my work areas there are always several still being used or parked for future projects, occasionally someone can talk an owner out of one. Not just forest service I've seen three or four over the years, but private Individual purchases, I keep my eye on them in case a sign shows up in the window, glad you found yours.
Clearance lights are required by Federal law for any vehicle that exceeds 80” in width. That’s why all dualies have clearance lights. Other trucks can get the clearance lights as an option I suppose.
Not completely true. DRW one tons do but the single rear one tons didn't all get cab lights. Gus, our 2wd one ton, does not have cab lights but Smokey does.
Awesome truck! I have an 88 crew cab Western Hauler Squarebody. It's super sweet and rare, I've never seen one like it. Big block, 4 speed manual, d60 front, 14b rear, 205 tcase. Thing is bulletproof and is fully loaded power windows, locks, a/c, radar detector, cb radio etc all factory.
I have the same year & model truck with a TBI 454 purchased by the state of VA. Originally an orange & white truck state highway truck that has since been painted black. The guy I got it from put 3/4 running gear under it after placing the one ton axles in another truck. I drive it to work a few times a week and recently picked up a full floating one ton rear axle and am now searching for a Dana 60 front. It is a great truck for my family to cruise in and I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy having mine.

I found my build sheet under my front seat in the seat springs ...mines 79 k30 srw crew with 400ci and its all there still and was originally purchased for a hazmat response for local city use and I'm the second owner ...congratulations on your badass truck dude
I had an '85 k20 single cab long bed forestry truck. There is an exemption for smog with those trucks. I learned by way of a smog fiasco. First shop said it need cats so I redid the exhaust but ended up at another shop for smog and they would not pass it because I put cats on it. I had to rip out a brand new exhaust but it ended up the best firewood truck ever!
I work for the US Forest Service and am dying to find a FS Green truck like this. We don't order green trucks except for fire engines anymore, and I think it would be so cool to roll into the ranger station in a classic like this. Although I would prefer something a *bit* shorter than the full crew cab, long bed. We still use those but I'll admit I prefer the smaller pickups.

Today I am using a Ford C-Max, which is maybe less iconic!

I very seldom see any of those generation Chevrolet & GMC crew cabs on the roads nowadays & the same thing with the Suburbans, but the regular cabs on the other hand I still see on the roads sometimes.
You said 4 speed & I was looking for the clutch pedal & shifter. I was disappointed when I didn't see it. It's a great looking & solid truck regardless. I'd love to have it myself.

Wouldn't a 90 model square body 4 wheel drive be a V 30? Ive also seen the R/V designators used with the 4 digit numbers. 1500, 2500, 3500 and such. Ive also known this to start arguments.

I'd check the fuel filter and if it has filters near the tbi. That's if you keep it a long time before the dirtymax swap

we took the bolts out of the coupler on our trailer and replaced it with pins. So if someone wants to steal it they have to bring their own hitch lol
