Arrival’s Title card is at the very end of the film. while I wouldn’t usually consider that to be a “late” title card, when you take into consideration the film’s structure- that jumps forward and backward in time- and the title of the film itself, it implies that even though the film just ended, the aliens are just arriving
I am kicking myself for not having seen it still, despite having it recommended to me countless times. Would have included it in the video if only I listened to them...
Hundreds of Beavers has genuinely the best title drop I've ever seen. I lost my mind when I saw it, partially because you don't expect it that late in the movie
I worked on Challengers as a rigging grip. It is easily my favorite movie that I've had the opportunity to work on. I'm so glad there are people out there who enjoy it as much as I do!
@@CultureDTCTV I was on the rigging side, so I didn't have much interaction with the shooting crew. They filmed over in Bedford Massachusetts a couple of years ago. More specifically, I was on the crew who rigged the final tennis match/battle
@Tyler12905 So I've been working professionally in the film and television industry as a grip for the last 3 years (spent a year and a half PAing till I found my dept). I did not go to film school. Here are my biggest pieces of advice for film students trying to get into the biz 1. GET THE FUCK OUT OF FILM SCHOOL!!! It is a complete and utter waste of time and money. All of the film theory that they teach you in school can be found online at this point. 2. JOIN A UNION!!! Unions make the film world happen. Zero work would be done without us!! If you're interested in working on the crew side (grip and electric, hair and makeup, Art dept, Set dressing, sound dept etc, JOIN IATSE. If you would like to be a director, get your ass on set as a PA and get your days in to join the Director's Guild of America. Writers have the WGA, actor's have SAG. Unions provide benefits, access to jobs, and free trainings. 3. GO WORK ON AS MANY SHORT FILMS AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. Around the country there are so many people making local short films. Get yourself on Facebook (ik it's for old people) and join asmay local film groups as possible. Go work on other people's short films, try every department if you can. Working on short films is the best way to network for yourself and learn the ropes. Most of the time on shorts there is somebody who has real industry experience. Learn from them, befriend them. When you're on set ask as many questions as possible, make sure you're doing your job safely and correctly. I'm not here to shit on anybody who decided to go to film school, but film schools like to perpetrate this idea that the only way you can be successful in this industry is with higher education. This is not the case whatsoever. A lot of the film school kids that I have worked with are very intelligent, but lack set etiquette, experience, and general wisdom. Because I was able to network for myself I've been able to support myself financially, and now I'm able to write, direct and produce my own projects with all the amazing crew members I've met. Filmmaking is a journey, and I wish you the very best of luck!
It's less of a late title and more of a double title, but Across the Spider-verse does this. It opens with all the studio logo's and then stays with Gwen for 20 minutes before showing all of the studio logo's again and then switching to Miles POV. Both of these don't show the title, the first one just goes straight into Gwen's VO while drumming and the second one goes into a Miles Morales comic book and then into his VO. I think it sets the dual-protagonists of the films up well because it starts with Gwen (who I would argue is the true protagonist of the movie since we start and end on her but also because she's the one who really has an arc) and then go to Miles who we follow for most of the movie. Everything Everywhere All At Once also kind of has a late title. It has 3 parts, "Part 1: Everything", "Part 2: Everywhere", and "Part 3: All At Once" and it's amazing. The movie opens and you're immediately overwhelmed with Grandpa and running the laundromat and doing taxes and Evelyn being mean to her daughter and it really feels like everything, then just as your starting to not be so overwhelmed, Part 2: everywhere drops and suddenly everyone is multiverse hopping and you're even more confused. Then the confusion just keeps going and you get nihilism, the everything bagel, the googly eyes, and all the other insane stuff at the climax of the movie. It really does feel "all at once". I also want to look at TV shows because I feel like they have a lot more room to do fun things with the title sequence because they get one every episode. People clown on invincible for it cutting off the word invincible, but I really like how it gets more and more bloody over the course of season 1 because it really matches the tension that's building with Omni-man. Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts also does something fun where some feature in the background looks like the title and then it match cuts to the title card. It doesn't have any big thematic anything, but the satisfying match cut combined with the stellar music made me hyped for the title drop every time.
One I love is the 2008 movie Love exposure no title card for 57 min A great title card and if you haven’t already please watch love explosion One of the best Japanese movies
i’m one of those babylon freaks. just thinking about that title card with justin hurwitz’ incredible score gets me excited. the chaos of the party, jack’s unsettling calm, manny’s wide-eyed excitement-couldn’t be more perfect to me. the title itself references the fall that is to come, and it sets the stage for an incredible ride. it’s just another party, but for manny and nellie, it’s everything. but to each their own!! peace and love, wonderful first video :)
This video was very good! I just thought "Yessss, I bet he has many more good videos". But you just started. That's so cool! I'm looking forward to your next videos! ✌🏼
I think most blockbuster movies now employ a late title, The Dark Knight trilogy for example, the difference being that they're after the film, I see it as each film just being an extended cold opening lol. Out of the two I prefer (Late or Start credits / Title card) I do generally prefer Starting Credits, and for that I look towards the Alien movies, most Tim Burton movies, and 2001 amongst others I've probably forgotte. I love how these set the tone of the movie, they get you ready and fully immersed before throwing you into the world. When a later title is done right though, it can be very very good and up there with the greats. These movies show how good title cards can be when employed right. I've not seen any movie shown in this video but now I have a pretty stacked watch-list. Thanks!
I loved the video… very disappointed when I clicked on your channel for more videos and saw that this was the only one. I definitely subbed, I’m excited for more :)
I really like Across The Spider-Verse's title sequence, it happens 20 minutes into the movie and tells us all of Gwen's backstory before we go back to our main protagonist, Miles. This opening always amazes me. From the opening monolog by Gwen backed by the insane track by Daniel Pemberton (still salty he didnt even get an oscar nom last year), to the beautiful animation style thats used only for Gwen's world, its pure eye and ear candy. The "title" sequence is extremely short and it doesn't even drop the name of the movie, opting to just drop the studios name and other related credits, but god damn doesn't it hype me up. Witnessing this title sequence happen 20 minutes into the movie on opening night last year made me so unbelievably excited this is a great video!!! thank you for speaking about such a niche interest
Not exactly the same, but I love what they do in Mandy. It has multiple title cards, but seeing that last card be the title of the movie just makes you so excited for the third part

Mountains May Depart by Jia Zhangke also have a similar effect as Drive My Car because it comes right before the first time jump on the film's timeline but the catch is that the three divided parts of Mountains May Depart has each one its own aspect ratio screen.
Children of Men's title card is after the final frame of the film with a soundscape that tells us what happens next without visuals. Cuaron's smooth style using long, unbroken shots is never broken by titles or credits. The film starts and carries you along until the bitter end. One of my favorites.

You have got to watch “Hundreds of Beavers” And sorta had a similar conversation with some friends that would make for a great video. What are the best movies that say the title in the movie?
Fantastic video - but missed a trick to have a title card for the video itself at the end (I really expected this was coming after you "changed continuity" just after you spoke about the films which switch gear at the title cards).
Speaking of films breaking established traditions, I remember when the trailer for Midsommar came out and it was letterboxed with white bars instead of black. I thought that was cool as shit but of course that's not how the final film turned out. I might have liked it a little more than I did, which was not much at all.
As a Bond fan I love pre-credit sequences. No, my problem is the _late studio logo_ which should be the very first thing in the film and yet another cancer that has metastasised from Marvel films. _Challengers_ is an interesting one - great film by the way - where its international version does the full MGM logo correctly at the start but then has the WB tower logo in the middle of the film.

Speaking of films breaking established traditions, I remember when the trailer for Midsommar came out and it was letterboxed with white bars instead of black. I thought that was cool as shit but of course that's not how the final film turned out. I might have liked it a little more than I did, which was not much at all.
make the next video about when they say the title of the movie, in the movie. Luv when that happens
really expected a late title card at the end of the video lmao
Ayyy young fathers in the back
Oh you know it!!! 🤝
You left out love exposure, definitely older than climax!
As a Bond fan I love pre-credit sequences. No, my problem is the _late studio logo_ which should be the very first thing in the film and yet another cancer that has metastasised from Marvel films.
_Challengers_ is an interesting one - great film by the way - where its international version does the full MGM logo correctly at the start but then has the WB tower logo in the middle of the film.
if you like "late title cards" Try Animal , an indian movie.
great list, you missed the oportunity to put the tittle of the video on the end tho
Mandy has the best execution of this imo
Viet and Nam gets the title screen like an hour into the movie
Had my eyes on it during London Film Festival
You could also include TRON:Legacy
Cant wait to watch all of them!!!
Climax mentioned!
i need to see more thumbnails like these on yt
The dark knight has the greatest opening scene of all time
