Ed used to sell new Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Lotuses, and McLarens. The Astons tended to give them transmission problems and sometimes it took some extreme measures to diagnose the issues.

"I threw a bunch of donuts in your car." Said Ed, with a tad of shame.
"Perfect!" exclaimed the man, knowing he now gets to do donuts in an Aston all afternoon.
As a forklift mechanic, we like for the people who drive the equipment to tell us exactly what they did to cause a malfunction if it doesn't throw up an error code. That way we can diagnose and fix the issue that much faster. Being able to do some fun stuff at the same time doesn't hurt either.
The way Ed tells stories he will eventually replace Morgan Freeman as the official narrator of all movies lol
Djuan PLunkett ikr
I model my anecdotal recountings after his style because it makes them better and more entertaining.
morgan shall never die !! worlds greatest narrator
Yeah I know. Intersting, banging donuts out and he could replicate the issue twice. Here's a story of mine, a 1967 Pontiac GTO. The Rhode Island School for the Deaf at the time had a huge parking lot - all wide open. So we take the car down there to do some donuts. We had our fun and we're rolling back up the hill to get out of the lot. What's coming down the hill, a Providence cop. The car is full of tire smoke, you can see the donut ring lifting off the ground. Cop was like smells like an electrical problem. We went on our way.
REDSKULL GARAGE right ? He seems so proper and experienced for a guy his age. Im always half expecting to see him with a 12 year old scotch in his hand and a fireplace in the background.
Ed I’m so addicted to your stories. It’s not the story itself but all in how you tell it
Hell yeah !
Ed is the man and he helps you envision the whole story. It's the minor unnecessary details that make it so good.
His stories are by far my favorite to watch. I’m glad they have a playlist oh just his. We need more of his stories
he should be the voice of radio
He's an amazing storyteller. You can see why he's such a great salesman.
I swear half of the stories Ed tells end up with him being in a situation where he is like “are you sure you want me to do this?” and then proceeds to do something crazy haha
Just another fascinating day in the life of our favorite automotive storyteller...
This dude has the best stories, would love to meet him in person.
Him and Rob are fairly close to tied in the storytelling realm.
The car is never going to produce the problem in front of the mechanic lol
True. Always hard to reproduce the symptoms.
Just hire him to ride passenger forever, problem fixed!
This is legitimately a thing in the automotive repair world
If the problem never arrives just ask the mechanic to carpool with you all the time haha!!!
This makes me feel like there is a secret society who produce mechanics lmao
The DBS has to be one of the sexiest cars I have ever laid eyes on. Perfect lines from every angle. I bet it looked great in a cloud of tire smoke.
I totally agree. It is spectacular.
and it sounds frickin good too
Best looking. Best sounding. I am planning to buy a 911 or a DBS someday soon. DBS is slightly more expensive but I would take it over a 911. Just based on the looks and sound. I don’t care about 911 performance. 1/1000 drivers ever takes there sport car to the track
I did some cloud of tire smoke in my DBS if you want to see check my instagram alhammadi_V12
I agree with you 100%!
As somebody who works with cars, and customer service, I aspire to reach the level of Ed Bolian. Such a gentleman, yet still not a push over when his knowledge is challenged, all while not being an asshole about it. Seriously kinda like my car guy Hero.
Ed is the best story teller! Man I love these videos!
High Octane his biker vs panamera story is pure poetry
Am I the only one who when I heard "I threw a bunch of donuts in your car" that pictured Ed running through a Krispy Kreme drive-thru? I think in that scenario my response would have also been "Perfect! Let's go do that again right now!"
That would also be entertaining.
Nope you ain't alone with that imagery.
cjkcizur I knew what he meant but that’s what I was picturing
Doing donuts, while having donuts, on four donuts...in an Aston Martin :D
I could see Ed and the owner driving around 285 throwing donuts at the cops!!! 🤪🤪🤪😂😂😂
I love Ed’s stories. This channel is such a great idea
I truly agree. I subscribe just for Ed. Can we please get him to start doing high end car reviews?
Arjun Singh I enjoy it too!
Sounds like a very understanding customer. Glad it all worked out for him.
Polkadot FFS well you could kinda understand why he wouldn't want to mention those type of circumstances if he was doing doughnuts in a parking lot or driving it that hard he didn't want to risk them voiding his warranty which would cost him thousands to replace the parts they did.
Polkadot FFS yeah I agree completely. Have a good day.
Honestly, If I needed a symptom to be reproduced in one of my vehicles, I wouldn't mind that car being thrashed around. If a vehicle can't take a few donuts and a few blips to redline then there were problems with the vehicle in the first place.
Reminds me of a story I read a while back. Forgot what kind of car but basically was an exotic that kept having transmission clutch issues. Someone online told him basically beat the piss out of it to bed the new clutch and magically no more issues
Brett Bilger understanding probably because he never disclosed he was making donuts, which is perfectly ok to do, but would have helped with diagnostic.
Only Ed Bolian would do donuts in some else’s car trying to cause a problem 😂😂😂 I love this guy
*fix* a problem, lol
You know just took it around some turns and was cornering hard 😄
When I was a mechanic I had a customer complaining about a noise in his vehicle. So I drove around trying to produce the described noise, needless to say, I couldn't. So I told the costumer to show me how he produced the noise himself. The reason for the noise was the suspension bottoming out when he hit the speed bumps in the city, at twice the speed limit.... "now there's your problem, it's not the car that's broken!"
Morten Hartvig Kristiansen I had a customer complain of a knock from the rear of the car when reversing. Turns out he was going from first to reverse so violently the trailing arm bush was moving back and forth in its mount due to the size difference of the bolt and bush inner. The bloke was an animal. I told him he was being too heavy handed with it. He didn’t care. Just asked me to tighten the bolt more to stop the movement.
@@mopedmarathon those people are so frustrating. I had a friend who complained that the gearboxes in his car broke often, said 2nd gear gets noisy after about a month and then soon after the shifter gets hard to move and then it locks up in a gear, yet the car won't move, I was like "are you being hard on it? It is making quite alot more power than standard" he replied no I haven't even had a chance to give it a hard time yet they break on my commute to work, so we replaced the box with a reconditioned one, and I noticed it had a brass button clutch, I said are you dumping the clutch? It's got a brass button, you're probably shock loading it, he said no, just cruising.
Anyway we went for a drive after and it felt good, nice smooth shifts and even under full acceleration no issues,
Then I swapped seats and he drove, I said drive home in the same manner as you drive to work, proceeds to shift at 4000rpm, not let the revs drop, slam it into the next gear, drop the clutch and repeat, I'm like dude you can't drive like that, you're ruining the synchros and shock loading the box, you've got a brass button clutch and semi slicks, the car was designed to make 200hp, you're making 400, settle down. His response was "I always drive like this it's fine"
Don't think any amount of trying to explain that's unacceptable behaviour would have helped. But I tried.
Few weeks later he said it makes a funny noise when you drive, I was like ok not helping you swap another gearbox, but I'll take a look. Drive it around the block no issues, take him with me, what's the noise? He said you had to accelerate harder, no, harder (by this point I'm wide open in 3rd) he goes "there that noise" I'm like, it's pinging, are you using 98 octane? He said yes, I looked down at the boost gauge and it's making 35psi... Dude why did you turn the boost up?
He didn't , what happened was he had the engine bay so hot he had melted the wastegate reference hose off and it was free boosting.
Obviously never checked his oil it was blatantly obvious and right next to the dipstick...
I stopped hanging out with him soon after that.
@UCDoPMlHEjIk_pD1B0N8gOXA Good. Sounds like an absolute fuckwit who couldn’t figure out his left from his right
Of course the car starts acting right once it gets to the dealership lol
813Productions the issue was the owner was too scared to actually say what caused the issue. Making it impossible to diagnose
It wanted to go back home with his buddies he got lonely. lol
Car: "OK ill behave now."
XD
When you whooped your little brother’s ass for something and you tell him not to tell mom about it 😂
Turns out I've been doing Aston Martin approved product testing in just about every vehicle I've owned
Be sure to check out the link in description to pick up a VINwiki shirt or hoody! Thanks for the support.
VINwiki yes!!!!!!! The day I saw the shirt
I wanted one and I could figure out how to get it
And now I can
Thank you VINWIKI
Thanks for the support!
What ended up being wrong with it??
Ed Bolian what was the issue with the car?
Doing donuts in a customer DBS that’s a dream job 🔥💪🏻☝🏻
A new story with Ed, yeah its gonna be a good day.
*Bumper to bumper unlimited mileage warranty!* Oh wait...wrong video.
Only Ed would be praised for hooning around in someone else's Aston while trying to diagnose a problem.
Thank you VINwiki, and Mr.Bolian for making my Wednesday better! Seriously love these videos!
It's Wednesday. But thank you for watching.
Oh my, it is! Well thank you for helping me through my week.
Haha. Happy to be of service.
Ed can say "I threw a donuts using my customer car and the owner doesn't care"
Love Astons! After you solve whatever Model problems the car has, they genuinely are pretty bulletproof.
So I did donuts in cars
Perfect, that's exact what I wanted to hear
lol "the Maserati problem" I love it
Awesome! My question is did he get a new set of tires out of the deal???
probably, I mean if they flew a guy in just to take look ?!
This speaks volumes about the brand and helps understand / justify the loyalty a bit for sure. Thank you for sharing!
I ordered a t-shirt
It's be so cool
I remember when you guys were like at 60-100k subs
New years is looking up for guys
And so am I
Congrats and thank you
Lee Crawford Did you format this to be some sort of poem or something....?
i think hes looking up for guys, if i read that correctly
I Love this channel you can't beat the stories !! All I've been watching for the past 2 weeks 🤣😂🤣😂.
Brilliant story! Sounds very close to home. I used to be a Development Engineer for Jaguar Land Rover and had to use some "unconventional" methods to trigger some issues reliably and repeatably so we could collect objective data for further analysis. Good job you had people around you who understands how these things work!
Great story & awesome job finding the problem!!! You are an outstanding storyteller!!!
That's is awesome! Great job Ed for thinking outside the box.......and having fun at the same time. Work smarter not harder.
Honestly Ed, for sure I csnt afford an Aston and probably won't ever afford one but you're the type of guy that would talk me into buying one and live in it for the rest of my life. Amazing stories loving every single one of them so far. :) Greetings from United Kingdom
The comments about Ed’s narration style is making me actually believe he would be awesome at voice work.
D Black he is excellent,I would read audiobooks if he was narrator.
To this day, I'm sure that the only reason why Aston Martin is still around as a brand, despite more bankruptcies than I have fingers, is that some time in 1963, a single DB5 was loaned out to a certain production company.
actually.. the way Bond movies got aston martin.. is very harsh and bumpy story. it was not so easy... that way.. aston martin didn't wanted to do it at all! the first movies didn't had it... until some sucess.. they got real budget.. and asked aston martin so what about now? and.. what aston martin did? nothing. they just sold the car for full price to producer :P after that movie aston martin kinda changed it's mind and rest was history.
Ed one of my favorite story tellers.
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying the content. Let us know what you like and don't like about the videos so we can continue to improve.
Another video from Ed, and another great day. Love this man!
I am adding Ed's videos as favorite. Worth watching more than once.
And if the police interrupts, you can always say "Good day sir, we are just doing some diagnostics". I very much enjoy these stories, especially told by Ed. He has a "serious funny" way of putting them.
That's Ed going above and beyond to help his customers!
Yet another great story Ed! Keep em coming
Work in IT, we had a legacy (old) server that would require a tactical slap every so often. At some point it even became a configuration item you could select for a server to be done, for newer server it would just mean to check cables, but it was funny to explain that to the new guys
I love this channel! Story time with Ed is the best!
Whispers;:"I love donuts too"
Cool video, enjoy all of Ed's Videos
Appreciate the content and have a nice day 😊😎
Tbh I favorite the video once I see it’s an episode with Ed lol such a great guy!

Again a very cool story. Love listening. Greetings from Germany
i love this channel! Great car stories! awesome to just listen to....
I️ really only watch ed. Such a good story teller, my absolute favorite
This has to be one of my favourite Ed stories, period !
Dude I’ve said it about three times already but I FUCKING LOVE THIS GUY AND HIS STORIES
Loving the fact that sliding an Aston is what broke it while @bisforbuild's video about the Aston drift project is like third down in the suggested videos beneath this one
This channel has such quality that it will blow up with millions of views and subscribers. Keep building great content.
I love Ed. His stories are really what make this channel.
Makes me want an Aston Martin even more
Hey Ed, luv your stories and car experiences...
Ed, you have the magnificent talent of making a regular story sound much more pleasant and enjoyable. Would love to see you in a Netflix version of Top Gear. Make it your next obsession and Im pretty sure it will happen.
ABSOLUTELY love these videos
Thanks!
Ed's a great orator, keep his videos coming!
3,000 miles, all donuts.
I’m under the impression the transmission is the same one in our BMW 750. As a matter of fact, I bet the actual problem was the mechatronic valve body. Our BMW dies in the exact same way.
Ed tells stories in a way that needs it's own channel
Ed voice will be legendary one day. Mark my words
And here I am getting upset at the dealership putting over 20 miles on my BMW
I particularly love Ed's stories. He needs to do regular podcasts.
"Let's go do that again RIGHT NOW." LOL!!!!!!
More stories please Ed! I didn't fall asleep yet!
I will keep them coming. Not running out anytime soon.
Ed, you simply tell the best stories!
I could listen to Ed talk for hours. He needs to start a podcast with all his stories
I'm a simple man, I see Ed, and I like the video.
Ed, keep them coming. Love your stories
really enjoy listening to vinwiki stories really interesting entertaining and some kind of educational on how the us car market works. i just wonder if vin wiki will at some time create a pdcast. i have a lot of time where im not able to access the internet and really would like to listen to some vinwiki stories. would be a really awsome idea in my opinion.
keep those awsome stories coming and congrats on the channel
Ed you should write a damn book. Love the stories and vinwiki app. Keep it up man
Doug and Ed are hands down the best story tellers
I love ed stories he’s a fantastic story teller
Started watching VINwiki car stories a while back. First impressions of Ed were...say, negative. After watching and listening to him, I actually look forward to his stories. Good work and keep it up.
Well, Just looked at the other comments.. turns out I'm just another damn Ed fan boy.
Such finesse with the stories
This stories are crazy, I love it!
Vinwiki, great videos. This guy tells good stories. My only negative observation is the audio. You guys need acoustic panels in the room. Tons of echoes and tin can audio in the videos.
Proper James Bond villain chasers...love it Ed
There was a big issue with Aston Martin electronics too. I went to their factory and their suppliers several times to help out. The problem is the design of the Vantage and DB9 generation was done while under Ford ownership, so they were parts-bin specials. Sat Nav was from Volvo, some switchgear from Lincoln, the engine from Jaguar (among other parts), as all were in the Ford Premium Motor group before it was divested.
The issue was many parts were designed for a the unique CAN network for that brand: each device on each brand is assigned a unique CAN address, and as Ford had told Aston to use specific parts sometimes there was a conflict when one part (e.g. mirror control) was made for Lincoln but the fuel sensor came from Jaguar also had the same CAN address - so when the button was pushed or a sensor tried to send data, there was conflict at the ECU. To get around this, Aston made some bodges to change the CAN address of some parts. (If they were a volume supplier, they could have got a new part, but suppliers don't want to do such changes for 2,000 units a year).
These home-made changes failed often, resulting in the recovery mechanics getting called out. They say "the switch doesn't work", replace it under warranty and send it back to the manufacturer. The customer would be happy but Aston would be out $1,000 under warranty repairs. The switch manufacturer checked the part, found there was nothing wrong with it, so charged Aston for a "no fault found" investigation and sent it back. Meanwhile, the faulty part which Aston made themselves was still in the car, a time-bomb waiting for the next random time it would come loose or glitch and result in another call-out. The supplier reckoned it saw almost a third of every single switch they made for Aston come back and then get returned as it was faultless. But, as it wasn't new, Aston couldn't use again it in a new car, so it tended to get scrapped.
I went back to Aston and saw the DB11 many years before release - well at least the space frame without any bodywork. By then they had decided to fix some of these really painful and expensive electronic issues.
Ed is the master of storytelling tbfh
A quick how-to know when there's Ed in the video is to look for the single most crazy video title you can read at the time, It'll be one of Ed's stories, 90% guaranteed.
i thought the title meant just going around in circles over and over and over diagnostic-wise, this is much better! XD
I’ve been looking for this video for so long 😂
THANK YOU VINWIKI CHANNEL MANAGER/EDITOR FOR TURNING DOWN THE INTRO/OUTRO
/ccoff
Also, I must know, Ed, do you have a history/relation to Britain/the british at all? Your command of the english language for an american is spot on - no offense :P
Cheers man
Much appreciated. Born and raised here in Georgia but that is very high praise. Thank you.
I had to come back and rewatch this just for Ed's delivery.
You're stories are the best! OMG
Such great stories!
Love all these stories
got to be one of the best story ed bolian has told
I am pretty convinced that Ed's stories are the best ones.
Ed us by far my favorite out of all the stories
This had to be one of the best days at work. Getting paid to throw around a customer's car.
Best fucking job ever! Also, Ed's the best story teller out there!
Thanks for the great story, Ed :)
What a great way to drive a supercar
Ed tells the best car stories ever!
thank you for turning the intro/outro music down. Great story too!
