HOW TO INSTALL A ROUTER ON THE HUSKY PORTABLE WORKBENCH W/ DEWALT DW618 ROUTER

  • The Husky Portable Workbench supports many routers. The DeWalt DW618 2.25 HP Fixed Router is one that I demonstrate in this video being installed on the Husky Workbench. I searched online for the list of routers that fit this workbench, but couldn't find anything. I believe the workbench is made to fit most popular brands of routers. I built my own fence and dust collection hood for this, which works well. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to respond.

    THANK YOU so much for posting this. It saved me tons of time. As some of the other commenters noted: the screw type is 8-32. x 1/2 inch. Be sure to get flat-head screws as round may protrude above surface. I actually needed one of the screws to be 3/4" to make it work. One other tip when attaching the plate back to the bench: there are nuts underneath the table to which the plate screws attach. One of mine fell out and had to be replaced. If your plate screws are not "attaching", this is your issue.

      Thanks so much! Bought a little box of that size...the #3 slot by Mark's diagram was a little too long in the screws I had, but Dremel'ing off ~ 1/4 inch let the #3 screw lie beneath the work surface. The #1 and #2 screw slots were fine.

    Thanks Mark, awesome video! I have the exact same rig so this video was super helpful. One thing that would be helpful, if a project requires picking up screws from the store, it would be helpful to know the precise dimensions e.g. the one in this video is 8 32 x 1/2 inch. Makes it easier for first timers or rookies like me to find in the store.

    • @angelafreeman43
      @angelafreeman43 3 года назад

      @@megangreenway4140 Sort of. None of the holes line up. I tried drilling my own, but I still couldn't get it right. Since the screw holes on the router itself don't go through, there's no way to accurately mark them for drilling and even a fraction off it won't line up. I did manage to get three of the predrilled holes to hold the router in place, but the bit isn't centered so I have to use the big collar instead of the small one that the bit just fits through. It works okay.

    Thanks so much, Mark! I was scratching my head trying to figure out the screw placement, etc, and this was awesome! Regarding the screw size below in the comments, the #8-32 3/4" (spcalan in the comments) was a wee bit too long in the #3 spot (had to Dremel off a quarter inch for that one). Hairymop got it right, it's #8-32 1/2" screw size to fit all the holes.

    I have a masterforce router and the table shown in the video, no matter how I tried to get this to work, I never could. I ended up making a router tabletop to put on a couple of saw horses out of some 3/4" melamine. Ended up using the table for my Dewalt miter saw

    Mark, again, thank you for this. One question though, have you figured out a way to adjust or level the plate to the table? I have the slightest lip preventing the smooth flow of the piece I am running across the router. As I say, it is the slightest lip, but it would make a difference in running a perfectly smooth cut through. I guess I could sand down the plastic, but I’m wondering if there an alternative instead of marring up the plastic to even things out. Thanks.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 года назад

      I didn't notice the need to do that. I'm guess it can be sanded. I would have to look at it again and see if center part can be taken out and sanded on the bottom side, so you do mar the top?? Just a thought.
