Saturday morning...looking for an American-speaking ( not UK/Brit for now ) quick info to start my router-based box joint projects for Christmas gifts ( 105° in my Sat Morning work area) and here you are solving my quick question as to joint...bit...common sizes. I've already built my little trim router table and sled for the joint cutting and ALL I needed ( "impatient 80 year old vet...") was 2 or 3 common bit sizes and after more than 1 hour of going thru the RUclips library of things that are good, but don't get to MY humble, simple needs for 2-day. Thank you, thank you, thank you...now I can get to work!
As good as instruction video as I've seen on YT, and I've seen a bunch of them. Easy to understand your voice and content, well planned, correct eye contact, good lighting and camera angles. I'm hoping to start making some money with my builds, so I decided it's about time to up my game and learn how to wield a router effectively. Thanks so much for the tips and explanation. In the UK from "HomeBase" I purchased a set of router bits for £10. The set contained 10 router bits. Thats £1 each considering how much effort it took to manufacture each bit they are dirt cheap. They are still working fine 5 years later.
I also have frued, whiteside and Diablo bits and they aren’t performing any better than the Chinazon prime bits I have. The Chinese bits from Amazon were about $1.75 USD per bit while the Whitesides are around $30-$45 USD per bit. Thanks for the information Josh. I do have a router but have not used it much as all. I think I would like to build a router table and mount it. It seems easier to control mounted.
Wow, your video is so on time. I just got a Trim Router from Harbor Freight and I wasn't sure what bits to get first. Thank you. I do have a question to ask, not able Routers. I have a Ryobi BTS-15 (Same as the Ryobi RTS-31 ) These Saws have a slider on the left side. They also do not have any miter slots. How do I adjust/align it, and how do I make a sled for it. What is it going to connect to, the slider tray? I have yet to make a cut on it.
A question for the expert (a fellow named Josh): Would I be able to use my existing 1/8" shank Dremel bits, with a 1/4-1/8" adapter, with my DeWALT palm router DWP611??????? Thanks!
@@TrainingHandsAcademy As long as I move slowly, so as not to create excessive/adverse lateral movement on the bit shaft, why not? IOW, any other reason, please? Thank you!
Nicely done! thank you! I'm just looking at using my dremel for some itsy-bitsy things and this one video is worth more than the 2 hours i've spent watching guys tell me how to, well, shit. im not sure what they've told me.... I am now going to see what else you have in here! Thanks again!
Thank you! That was most informative, especially that bit (yeah) about the bearings location for the flush trimmer. Since I'm a noob woodworker, I will get the trimmer with bottom bearings when the time comes. Though I'm just a DIYer, I prefer to get good stuff so that (i) I don't have to repeat purchases once cheap stuff fail, (ii) they don't fail on me when I don't know how to handle it, and (iii) I don't miss out on any parts that's supposed to be in the package - from Amazon reviews, it seems Freud is notorious for missing components. I was hoping to just get their stuff, seeing how attractive their prices are, but seeing complaints about missing parts, poor customer service, makes me stay away. Add the fact that I'm not in the US, returns are a dicey thing, another thing to worry about. Even Whiteside seems to have this problem of missing parts. It seems like I'll have to go with Amana, but they're so expensive. So, instead of five bits like you mentioned, I'll have to make do with three - the straight cut bit, the flush trim, and the round-over. Everything else, like dados, will have to be worked around using these three. Again, thanks for sharing.
I didn't think it was possible. I could not believe it. No 3 minute long Macheesemo intro title sequence with grinding guitar licks, no rambling talk on how you went to the Home Depot and couldn't find a parking spot, and no slo motion glam shots of doing what should be just a normal shot. I personally like the top bearing flush trim bit, because you get to see your template on top.
Wow! I got everything I need to know about bit since am just new.
Well explained and refreshing to ear you use the metric system which is the norm here in the UK even though I use both 👍
Metric system is used by 98% of countries around the world
Definitely great video for beginners; concise and clear. Thanks!

That was a great video. Thank you🙏
Thanks for the information Josh. I do have a router but have not used it much as all. I think I would like to build a router table and mount it. It seems easier to control mounted.
Hey David! Router tables are nice and do provide a whole new experience. Hope you are well my friend!
Great video, just what I needed
Good video, easy explaining, pretty straight forward.
Excellent explanation 👍
Wow, your video is so on time. I just got a Trim Router from Harbor Freight and I wasn't sure what bits to get first. Thank you.
I do have a question to ask, not able Routers.
I have a Ryobi BTS-15 (Same as the Ryobi RTS-31 ) These Saws have a slider on the left side. They also do not have any miter slots. How do I adjust/align it, and how do I make a sled for it. What is it going to connect to, the slider tray? I have yet to make a cut on it.
Hey Tony, could you please find me on Instagram and send me a picture of what you have so that I can better answer your questions. Thanks buddy.
@@TrainingHandsAcademy Ok I will have to create an account.
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
Thank you. You can use a bit similar to this one. amzn.to/3E1NKGS
@@TrainingHandsAcademy which were you using
A question for the expert (a fellow named Josh): Would I be able to use my existing 1/8" shank Dremel bits, with a 1/4-1/8" adapter, with my DeWALT palm router DWP611???????
Thanks!
No, I would not use them in the palm router.
@@TrainingHandsAcademy As long as I move slowly, so as not to create excessive/adverse lateral movement on the bit shaft, why not?
IOW, any other reason, please?
Thank you!
This is legit super helpful.
Glad to hear it!
Very helpfull. Thank you very much.
Nicely done! thank you! I'm just looking at using my dremel for some itsy-bitsy things and this one video is worth more than the 2 hours i've spent watching guys tell me how to, well, shit. im not sure what they've told me.... I am now going to see what else you have in here! Thanks again!
You're funny. I'm glad you like to my content.
I recently bought my first router and got a set of bits from Ryobi. It has a chamfer, cove, roman ogee, and round over.
Cool, have fun with them.
