- Has your OneUp V2 post become sticky or does it feel gritty when it goes up and down? If so then it’s probably time for a strip, clean and re-grease.
These posts are super easy to service at home you just need a few tools and some grease and you’re good to go.
You will need:
- Suspension grease (like Slick Honey of Sram Butter)
- Paper towel
- Brake Cleaner (not a necessity but helpful for cleaning)
- 5mm allen key (to remove the saddle)
- 2mm allen key (to remove the actuator lock bolts)
- Adjustable spanner (to remove the actuator)
Hopefully the video and points are helpful, let me know if they were and if you’ve got any tips of your own by dropping me an email on: rpbiketech@gmail.com
Watch out for more Tech Tuesday post’s coming soon! Хобби
I have re-watched this multiple times, every time I service my post. Thank you, RP!
Stoked I can help!
Thank you, very helpful video! I serviced mine today and its soooooo much better. Recommend you watch this if your thinking of doing yours and saving yourself a few $$
Solid vid...looks easy to DIY. I have to get this done soon, not stressing i'll muck it up now, thank you sir!
This was so easy to follow!! Fixed my slow post issue!!!!
this is the easiest post to service ive ever done. maybe the easiest bike component haha. well done oneup.
rly?? they are all the same.. oneup, transx, cube, brandx, ks, crankbrothers, bontrager, etc..
Very helpful video. Easy to do yourself. Thanks!
Glad to help 👍🏼
Great video man!!!
Nice video, planning to do mine soon
This also works on the v1 post aswell. Nice straight forward video so that anyone can do the job with minimal skills 👍👌
Good to know, and thanks!
Thanks for the vid! Super helpful
You bloody legend! Great video
Always happy to help! 😘
Easy peasy - thanks a lot!
Great video very helpful.
Great video. My oneup dropper slowly extends by itself, maybe a could inches only while riding downhill and nearly fully extended when left for a while, would this be the cartridge?
thanks
Yeah, sounds like the cartridge or could be a sticky cable. Remove the post from the bike and see if you can compress it without pushing the actuator and see if it extends by itself after being pushed down using the actuator. If it does both of these then you’ll need a new cartridge unfortunately. If it does neither then it may just need a new inner and outer cable 👍🏼
Thanks for the vid. My OneUp post is actuating without being asked to. Even with the cable removed, it is still doing it. Any ideas what that could be? Do you think a strip down, clean and grease fix this issue? Thanks!
That’s usually a result of the cartridge being worn out unfortunately so your best bet will most likely be to replace it.
hi, nice video. Is it normal that my oneup V2 is rotating? it is just the upper part. it works fine up and down but sometimes when i move with my pelvis it rotates (like 30 degrees).
So is inside something that protects from rotating and I should check it out?
thank you
Your post will have a very small amount of rotational play from new, this is needed to let the post move up and down freely. It is dealt with by the brass keys, if the amount of play had increased then it’s probably time to get yourself a new set of keys along with the seal and bushes, these are available all together as a kit from OneUp, and it’s not expensive. Then follow this video but replace the parts with new ones instead of putting the old ones back in 👍🏼
I hope this helps? Let me know how it goes.
Cheers
Hey, great rebuild vid. I got a question on the suspension grease, would Slickoleum be a suitable replacement for the slick honey?
Thanks! Yeah, looks like it’s basically the same stuff 👍🏼👍🏼
@@rpbiketech awesome, thanks for the reply
Anyone else have an issue with the small green bolts rounding out on theirs?
This is a great video.
Thank you!
I'm returning to it a second time as even though I did the service a few weeks back, it seems my actuator is sticky and the post won't stay up.
I'm going to check the cable first but otherwise, I guess I'll perform this service again.
Cheers 👍
Thanks! If the new cable doesn’t fix it then it may be that the cartridge is done, unfortunately. Easy to replace though and not too expensive thankfully.
Hi, thank you, your video helped me! Good explanation!
If the post has a left to right wobble, couldn't you use 2 of the other 6 slots that might still be tight?
Is there a way to get into the cartridge to change the fluid and purge any air which causes sag?
Unfortunately not, the cartridge is a sealed unit and will need replacing in this instance.
Hi, my oneup dropper got some leaking air when I put the dropper down, is it normal or do I need the same service as you?
If it just makes a slight hissing sound when the post goes down then that is normal, it’s just the air escaping the frame. If the post has bounce or won’t stay down (test this by taking the post out and activating it manually, without using the cable and lever) then a new cartridge is needed. Hope this helps.
The green thingy at the bottom of the dropper is extremely tight and I can’t open it. Any suggest on that?
Hmm, I’d get some penetrating fluid into the threads (wd40 or similar) and then maybe a strap wrench to hold the post body still. Preserve and it should come apart eventually.
Opened my post for the first time and the head of one of the two 2mm Allen bolts that hold the actuator was already stripped and I'm unable to remove it, any ideas ?
I’d either carefully drill out the the stripped bolt and replace it or replace the cartridge and actuator. OneUp are generally pretty good at offering spare parts. You’ll just have to have a look on their website.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
No problem 👍🏼
I dismantled, cleaned, and reassembled everything as described but my seat is only going up about half way. PSI is at 300 but a tiny bit escapes when I remove the pump. That plus the housing and seat post seem to not be gliding smoothly despite how much grease I put on there. Is this both a housing and leaky air pressure issue?
Have you replaced any parts? Sounds like the bushings, seals and brass keys are worn and if they haven’t been replaced then that would be the first place to start. “Dropping air” wise, it’s normal for it to look like the air drops when you remove and refit the pump. If it’s only 10-20psi or so then the cartridge is most likely not leaking, it’ll just be filling the tube of the pump.
@@rpbiketech thanks! I haven’t replaced any parts. It came with a used bike so I don’t know if the previous owner replaced anything but he worked for the bike manufacturer so I trust if he did any work he did it correctly. As far as I can tell all the bushings, keys, and seals are in place. Perhaps they’re just worn out? Also, I’m quite certain now I have a V1 rather than V2.
@@jonathangarner8126 would be a good idea to try and get the service kit but you may find that it’s not available for the V1, in which case I’d do what you can to keep it going and then replace it if it dies or becomes too sticky to use properly.
@@rpbiketech so helpful, thank you!
Thanks for the video :D
Just to be sure. No need to take out the air before doing this?
No problem 👍🏼 no need to drop the air at all, even when changing the cartridge 😊
Thanks for the quick answer :D
Hi, my one is coming out from alone and sliding back in From Alone so I decided to make a Service and replaced everything, but it doesnt work, you have an idea what I can do ?
Thanks ✌️
Hey, drop me a message and a video on Instagram to @rpbiketech and I’ll see if I can go hire out the problem 👍🏼
Could it be the cartridge? I'm having the same problem!
The dropper moves freely up and down without using the lever. Took off the cable and the dropper still moved up and down with the actuator in it's neutral position
@@dylandavis8634 worth removing the post from the cable and seeing if it’ll sag without the actuator pressed when you push down on the post. If it says then it’s most likely the cartridge that needs replacing, if there’s no sag then it’s most likely just a sticky cable so replace the inner and outer 👍🏼
Hi, about the air pressure between 250 - 300 psi. What is your recommendation? Thank you!
The air pressure is what controls your return speed (how fast it comes up), so around 250psi would be it’s slowest return speed and 300 psi would be it’s fastest.
Ok, I will try different pressure to see what I prefer. Thank you again!
Another or last question: 250 psi when it’s down or up? 250 psi up means nearly 400 psi when it’s down. Thank you!
@@Denis.R.185 always check or change the pressure with the post at full extension 👍🏼
@@rpbiketech Ok, Thank You!
So I went through what you did and now can't get the cuff screwed on and the actuator screwed on. It's like the dark grey rod is too long. Any ideas?
Hmm, make sure you have the actuator rod the right way round and have removed the grub screws from the actuator completely? Otherwise make sure the bushings are properly seated.
@@rpbiketech So I pushed the rod in whilst engaging the actuator and it did get shorter. I was then able to put it all back together. Initial problem not sorted though. So I think I need a new cylinder.
Literally having the same problem right now Tim. Doing my bloody head in, been here for a hour or more trying to screw the actuator back on to the cartridge. Starting tk piss me off 😔😂
@@chrisdive sometimes the cartridge can be over extended, try sliding the outer tube up and out of the way then actuate the cartridge using the actuator and push the cartridge so it shortens then slide the outer tube back down, you should be able to thread the actuator back into the outer tube now 🤞🏼
Thanks for advice ! But that wasn’t it, i sussed it.
Typically it’s something so so simple!!!!!
Just push the actuator lever and it it popped in place much better then slid straight on. Took me a hour to work that out after taking the post apart and back together like 10 times 😂😂😂😩😩😩
Hopefully this can help other people who get this odd issue :)
Your video was perfectly helpful though dude nice work.
Are you supposed to release all the air first??? Nobody mentions this, not even oneup website and I really dont want this think to blow apart while Im working on it.
No need to, the cartridge is a sealed unit and if there’s a problem with it then it’s replaced so you never need to take it apart or drop the air when doing a service.
Why not replace the plastic bushings???
They don’t wear particularly fast so it’s not a necessity at every strip down, the posts get a bit sticky after about 6 months of use so this strip and re-grease is worth doing every 6 months or so.
It would then be worth sourcing the service kit that comes with the top seal, bushings and brass keys and replace them all after about a year.
should i release all of the air before dis-assembly?
No need to touch the air cartridge at all unless you’re changing it for a new one 👍🏼
@@rpbiketech how much further do we need to go to change out the cartridge
@@str8shogun you just need to release the cartridge from the upper post by removing the valve cap and then removing the cartridge lock ring by unthreading it with some needle nose pliers 👍🏼
@@rpbiketech yup I got it ! Thank you very much
What about the air?
Don’t need to touch the air for a service as you’re not doing anything with the cartridge. Even if you’re replacing the cartridge you don’t need to touch the air, it’s just to control the return speed.
