    What are your thoughts on removing the outer layer of ABS from the roof in order to coat it with Grizzly Grip (2001 Utah)? I guess my main curiosity is how the roofs structural integrity may be impacted.
    If there is anybody out there that has performed this repair, please let me know how it went, how it held up, if you noticed any issues as a result...

    Thank you for the video. I have a 2004 Mesa. The roof is like the "Westlake" example in the video. The inside of the roof looks great - however the outside of the roof is sagging and causing water to pool rather than run off. Would it be the outer plywood rotten under the metal skin?? Or would it be the core foam that is shrinking?? How hard is it to take the metal off, the plywood off, replace the foam, replace the plywood, and then what.... Put a membrane on the roof? Do you have any videos of this? I know all replies take time. Thank you for your time.

    I have dozens of hairline cracks (especially on the sides near the seal) on my roof. 2002 Mesa. There’s no loose ABS or de-lamination. Would a couple of coats of rubberized paint do the trick, or are there more extensive steps to repair it?

    @Pop up camper pro Adam - Since you chopped up an ABS roof, it would be really interesting to be able to see what fasteners Coleman/Fleetwood used to attach things to the ceiling inside e.g. what fasteners did they use to attach the vanity to the ceiling? There are a couple of plastic "caps" towards the middle of my ceiling of my '98 Bayside - what are they, etc...? Will a tri-grip rivet, or T-rivet hold in the foam?

    • @popupcamperpro
      @popupcamperpro  3 года назад +1

      Erik, good questions! For the fasteners inside an ABS roof, expansion rivets are recommended. The "caps" that you see are accordion rivets, marking the cutout location for a vent or AC install.

    We have a 2008 Fleetwood Avalon highlander. The ceiling, on the inside, is sort of bubbling or delaminating. It looks like the more decorative film is separating from the base. It does not look discolored/stained. The roof is not quite like any of the 3 above. There are no seams on top, but there are metal pieces that wrap around the upper side edges and corners. We don't have an air-conditioner nor a vent. There is nothing on the roof and I don't see any cracks. Should I suspect water is getting in under the metal covering the edges? Is there a video for this model?

    So, I stripped the ABS from the outside of my 1998 Bayside roof and Grizzly Gripped a couple of years ago. The ceiling inside is starting to delaminate at the front end. Without cutting it open, can you think of a way to re-adhere the delaminating section? My initial thought is to drill a couple of small holes through the ABS ceiling to spray in some contact adhesive (not sure if there are sprays that use the small tube like WD40 cans....), and then possibly use a couple of pop rivets to help anchor into the foam...

    • @PAGrunt
      @PAGrunt 4 года назад

      Brian Wilson Yes. They are made to be light as to put minimal stress on the lifting system. My 1998 Coleman is more like the last one cut with the metal sheeting/styrofoam/luan which is all sandwiched together with glue. There’s thin metal embedded between the luan and styrofoam that give screws a little something extra to grab besides the 1/4” luan where needed. The metal exterior shell gets pin holes over time, and from rock strikes, which causes water to infiltrate the styrofoam core, and rotted the luan and vinyl sheeting over the luan. I have racks on top as well, and these too caused water infiltration due to their loss of seal. I gutted the wet styrofoam and replaced it. Would have liked to have stripped the entire shell, but don’t have a garage for such a project, so only replaced what was bad. I then coated the exterior metal with several coats of elastomeric paint. So far so good. For the future, knowing what I know now, I don’t recommend getting a pop up with any penetrations in the outer skin (racks, AC units, etc). Long term, they will become liabilities to the integrity of the outer skin.

      Sounds like you are referring to an ABS roof if it's on a Coleman or Fleetwood. If it's another manufacture please give me a call at the shop!

    Do you know of any videos that show how to rebuild a Coleman roof? I have the second one (or pretty close to it) and had remove the entire foam section. Any insight is greatly appreciated

      Pop up portal is another good resource if your not finding your particular roof on this forum.

      Pop up camper pro Thanks. I’ve been looking on there and have found many threads on repairs but nothing on how to rebuild this type of roof (at least yet). Thanks for responding. I’ll keep searching

      Coming soon. Considering using a brand new one for a more thorough disassembly.

      The goal is to help anyone considering a roof rebuild. If you are unsure of what you might find inside your roof, this should give you some insight.
