Their last concert before the plane crash was in Greenville SC, I was there. And I still live in Greer SC, it's only 10 miles from Greenville. I was only 16 years old then, and I am 62 now. I still remember that night in 1977.
The first time I met Artimus was in Glenwood Ar at the thunder Mt race track I told him im sorry for the loss of his brothers and sister in the September 1977 plane crash and I was bron October 1977 and Artimus stood up and gave me a hug that was awesome
It is a very sad truth, not story. Think about all the bad luck this band had. Artimus is right. Drugs and alcohol hurt the survivors a lot. Especially Allen Collins.
I still totally love this guy. He’s a legend. I’m honored to own a guitar autograph before the plane crash. All original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd signed my guitar. Bob was on drums back then. I also own a guitar signed by AP with the set list of their last show in Greenville South Carolina. He also honored RVZ with a bird flying. Over the top cool autograph. So he’s a class act. RIP RVZ
Artimus Pyle is VERY VERY COOL! 74 years old, sharp as a tack, still touring, keeping the Skynyrd legacy alive, and a well-spoken gentleman. Kudos to Artimus!
I am so glad I found this interview, I grew up listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd and all southern rock bands. Artimus is one cool dude, maybe one day I can shake his hand. This young lady did a excellent job of interviewing him, thank you.
Thank you ! Artimus Pyle For your positive efforts to keep a legendary period of time Close to us all . And all the great things you do for the heroes in our society.
THANK YOU Jo Anne..... for this interview of "ONE of the coolest EVER Musicians" on the planet !! ALWAYS rewarding to hear the WISDOM of Mr. Artimus Pyle !! LOVE hearing hisband play Skynrd CLASSICS whenever they play close to Pennsylvania !! THANK YOU, once again for tis exellent interview !!
Every time I watch any video on anyone or anything having to do with Lynyrd Skynyrd it has a way of taking me back to those years of the 70s with many, many fond memories of seeing them in concert and buying up all the albums and tapes of them as well as learning their songs for our bands to play. It brings allot of joy to my heart, but then as I realize the tragic experiences they had and endured, but are now all gone and how time has flown by, it kinda bums me out. But I can still get up and do my thing with a slower but more peaceful, easy feeling. May the good Lord always, always bless these guy for all they have given us, still to this day.🙁😢🙂 A great video and thank you for your time and effort here!!!
I've heard the stories from you so many times and they always come from the heart. I can't wait to get the new CD from APB that's being mastered now with a superstar singing Freebird with Gary Rossington playing slide. Also another superstar singing Simple Man! It's a wonderful gift back to all of us who love Lynyed Skynyrd. RVZ would be proud as well as the ones gone before, including now, sadly Gary...Love you Artipa
I interviewed Artimus about 20 years ago. I wasn't particularly a Skynyrd fan, but he made me one. He's passionate, complicated and one of the best natural musicians of my generation.I wish the current Skynyrd band would call it a day and let the original band's legacy prevail. Artimus refuses to sanction them, and that's probably why he doesn't play with them.Thank you AP, for all you've done.
@@MP-ju4ol AP tells it like it is. People like him are rare these days. From other interviews he always acknowledges others. Basically in a nutshell, a great soul, and musician.
I attended the 1st year (71-72) of Ed White Sr. High in Jacksonville Fl.. Lynyrd Skynyrd played our 1st dance. It was iconic! I have the yearbook to prove it...Nuff said...
Love this video. Artimus is a hell of a great man. Oh ya, seen them in concert two times before the plane accident. One of my favorite live bands still.
Artimus is a great man and a great human being. God bless him, I could listen to him talking all day long. He is so humble and such a gentleman. It must have hurt him all these years losing his friends in that dreadful airplane crash. I have no doubt that he will meet up with all those lovely people again. Artimus was also a fantastic drummer , one of the best I ever heard. Artimus, I wish you many more happy years on this earth. Keep drumming on.

Hey Southern Man, on the flip side I’m a Yankee and I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd for my only time in Oakland, CA on what was called Day on the Green in early July that year. Peter Frampton headlined, LS, Outlaws is all I recall. Lynyrd Skynyrd was the band that day with barefoot Ronnie, his trademark hat, and bottle of Jack. I can still play their music and hear it like the first time, and unlike some of those bands I loved so much back then. I was just shy of my 16th birthday. I’m 61 now. I recall the heartbreak in October learning of that Ill-fated flight. I’m glad LS is iconic and I’m glad they have a great legacy. I’ve spoken with Gene Odom, childhood friend of Ronnie’s, body guard and head of security then, and found him to be an upstanding Southern Man. He was a great influence on Ronnie, coming from his experience, family upbringing, and military background. He was beginning to move Ronnie in a different direction before tragedy struck. The best three American rock bands ever, in my humble opinion, were The Allman Brother's Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Lynyrd Skynyrd (I consider The Grateful Dead and The Eagles as contenders). All three have roots in Florida, not L.A. or Nashville, which I find interesting. I'm not able to comment on the film as I haven't seen it yet. I think Skynyrd was on the cusp of their second rise and I say this feeling they really had not stumbled or lost any ground, but with Steve Gaines in the fold I believe it is entirely possible they were fully revitalized and ready to match their previous highs. There were those who faulted the post reunion concerts morphing into annual tours again, but that group which often included at least two or three original members acquitted themselves by their respect for the music and fans. And they kept fans coming. That underscores the popularity of the music itself. Artimus really got kudos for mentioning Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, and Keith Moon as stellar drummers. BTW, he also mentioned Chad Smith who I've recently came to realize is one of the all-time drummer greats. A very interesting interview.
