You can easily stop the food sliding into the grill-well by placing an 1/2" deep wooden slat lengthways under the two front feet of the XL Pro - it works for me.
So glad I found this thorough comparison! They're certainly bigger than they appear in the ad. Going with the XL Pro...thank you, thank you, thank you!
Great comparison! I love my original Ninja Foodi Grill and it seems to cook hotter and fastest than the XL to me. The air is more concentrated like a regular air fryer and the heating element is larger also. And it's the perfect size for one or two people.
I have the original and I also use it almost daily. I have given a number as presents and all have been well received. I do like the way the original cooks and I appreciate the deeper pan for air frying. Since the grill is smaller, I purchased a second to have on-hand for those times I need additional grill space. Now to watch your video about the crispy potatoes.
We use the original Ninja Grill very regularly but have never used the air fryer function. We are cooking all kinds of meat. We do not eat potatoes and other foods that tend to be done by the air fryer function. Thanks for the review.
Same here~ meats every day, which is why I'm currently trying to research & figure out which one will be best for that, ie; cooking steak to med/med well while crisping all the fat & surfaces to deep brown. Have tried other grill-type devices, such as the Cuisinart Griddler Grill, Foreman's etc~ but no. Nothing cooks steak like an air fryer at 450-500 degrees, imho. This way of cooking makes for a lot of grease all over inside the machine, so I'm hoping to replace our old one. The elements finally starting giving out from repeated grease & cleanings.
This is an excellent comparison. You helped me to make a decision. Finally!! I've watched so many videos but yours is the best comparison. I decided to go with the Foodi Grill bc I like the deep well. Even though the bottom heat on the Pro XL is attractive, it costs more and might splatter around on the counter, plus it doesn't have the depth which I like. So thank you 😊
Thank you so much for this video. It was GR8 and very timely for me. I previously had the XL airfryer grill. I loved it but the filter was difficult to latch and it often fell while cooking resulting in additional grease splattering inside the hood. The inside hood is already a challenge to clean. I gave it away out of frustration. I now have the Ninja 5:1 foodie and just today ordered the new XL Smart Grill for myself. A sale on the site afforded me to order 2. I will gift my daughter-in-law one! They will be here on Sunday! I'm so looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I like the PRO. Though I did already buy the XL. I don’t want my food sliding so I’ll have to put a weight to hold my steak in place. A magnet or something that will work. Not sure a magnet will stick on but I’ll find something if I purchase a PRO. Only to use with steaks, chkn or other meats.
I LOVE my Ninja Foodi XL grill 6-in-1. It's literally never failed me. I've fixed everything from hotdogs to French fries to reheating foods to baking chicken (choose bake not the chicken mode and use the probe) to burgers and filet mignon. Cooking with the lid open would be awesome but I'm not selling and buying "just" for that. I have a 3rd party aluminum grill & sizzle plate which is awesome but not world changing. The grill marks in the XL pro definitely look better. Not a fan of the spiral pattern. I don't think it helps. I don't regret my purchase but I would have loved to start with the XL pro. It just didn't happen that way LOL
I have the Ninja Foodie Grill XL PRO and use it almost every day. The sliding doesn't affect the cooking and I use the lid open and closed depending on the application. Like the larger surface area of the air fryer as well.
I had the Xl, but now have the XL Pro and LOVE IT! I loved my XL, but the Pro is really nice with the griddle. I also cook my bacon on air fry in the basket that way the grease drains off. AND the grease doesn’t splatter all over the kitchen, its contained to the inside of the grill!
I got so aggravated with cleaning the one we got I haven’t used it for a few weeks. The truth is we just really prefer the air fried steak even over steak grilled outside. I guess I could move the air fryer outside to allow the thing to smoke without ruining my white kitchen. Anyone have any in-site to owning and using an air fryer daily that is easy to clean. Sometimes we use our twice day.
I have the original Ninja for over two years now and love it. I gave my daughter the original for xmass last year and it has a temp prob but mine doesn't. Now sure why.
My ninja xl smart is terrible, those buttons stopped working properly after a few months, can’t control the temp or time. It’s telling that the new model went back to physical buttons
Mine did the same thing. I called Ninja, they sent a link to my phone so that they could see (video) that the decrease buttons for the time and temp didn't work and they sent me a new base unit with no accessories. I had to continue to use the accessories that came with my original unit (pans, heating element screen and thermometer).
Excellent review~ thank you so much =) I do have a question regarding the cleaning of the upper lids/"roofs" of the units. I notice that the original, smaller & deeper model has the splatter screen pretty much covering the entire top~ which seems like it would protect the roof area from as much grease/food mess better than maybe the other two, larger units? I can see that the splatter screens on those two only cover that center element, leaving a fair amount of open space for 'spattering', so to speak. Could you please share your experience with keeping the inside of those lids/roofs clean with me, if you have a minute to respond? I'm currently shopping for one, & trying to figure out which would be the best fit for us. I grasp the size & function differences, & am leaning toward the original guy, mainly for what seems like ease of cleaning that inside lid! =) It will be traveling in our RV w/us. I appreciate ANY additional info you may care to share, & I thank you in advance~ Samantha Whitson, AZ/USA
The original is much easier to clean up top, or should i say it hides the stains better. You can take the splatter screen off of the ninja and spray it with regular oven cleaner and it looks brand new. Absolutely do not use oven cleaner on the lid or bottom of the ninja youll ruin it but the splatter screen i take outside and let it soak an oven cleaner before i scrub it off with soap.
At first I was very attracted to these things. I found your video and appreciate your review. The most expensive model is like $400, which... maybe if you don't have a nice stove, might be worth it. But I already have a stove. I guess the one thing it does that I can't replicate is air frying. But I know there are Instant Pots with air frying that cost a lot less than these. Even tho it seems like it would be a fun toy, I'm not sure I can justify the cost. Thanks again.
The air fry on instant pots are really poor in comparison to these. I would say the instant vortex is a really good air fryer, it cannot pressure cook though.
I like cooking my meat. When resting on board or plate I put my cooked wedges of pots in the drippings in roaster pan to brown. Excellent idea from another RUclipsr. I can then add some broccoli or pour out most of drippings and put in a package of ready jasmine rice in. With a handful of frozen peas or use handful of frozen peas n carrots ideas are not limited.

I thinking of the getting the ninja foodi grill xl pro, there's one with the thermometer and not. The difference is $120, is it worth it? OR can I without it?
Did you not see the video, the steak looked better on the pro I had to go back and listen she mentioned it has top and bottom heating elements so I can see why
@@marcusanthony470 Having the bottom and top each having heating elements does not necessarily mean better steaks. The best steaks are on a BBQ grill or on a pan, where the heat is from the bottom.
Are you slow? We're talking about counter tops why do you think the steak from the pro looked better? Why do you think the top and heating element feature was added to the newer design? Don't compare a bbq pit which gets get hotter from CHARCOAL and needs to be flipped

HELP!! To anyone that reads this, thank you!! I purchased my ninja foodi smart xl grill couple days ago and already having issues! When preheating it smells like burnt plastic + sets off my smoke detector 😩 Any idea what’s going on ? Is this expected? The grill is as clean as it can be so it’s not the dirt or grease that’s causing it….
Sounds dumb but did you wash everything first before use? I will admit in my apartment i cannot use the highest grill setting even if there is no smoke from the ninja because it always sets off my smoke detector. And its only when i use the max setting if that helps.
@@TheOnlyChrisB Great question! So when I used it the very first time I washed everything except for the splatter shield. The smell was awful. So I called the store, they told me to wash everything including splatter shield. I did. Still the smell was awful + smoke detectors went off. I had to return it unfortunately even though the food came out good… 🤷🏻♀️
That is absolutely right, Craig. I hope that I've demonstrated each unit enough so that consumers can make an educated decision when they purchase. Thanks for watching!
food sliding forward is a very bad design problem, I have found out for myself the hard way, all they had to do was made the grill plate flat and modify the bottom of the grill plate ie only put the angle on the bottom side,, I have tried telling ninja this, but they are not interested in any way......

@@marcusanthony470Moron!
Thank u so much for this! Just wondered is there no roasting pan for the newest grill for the chicken to cook on top of the veg as you said.
OK...so, when spending the money....is the XL pro the one to buy?
why does everyone need someone to give them a specific answer. make your own decision, they are all good, watch the video and determine your use case and choose
Thank you so much! This video helped me out tremendously.
Hi! Contact the manufacturer right away. That's my best advice

Thanks
Thank you 🙌🏻
really informative! thank you!!
I guess it depends what you like to cook.
I Wish the newest model had the same capacity as the older one
It's quite a downgrade in terms of what you can fit in the new one, vs the old.
