Actually I think that line is the worst thing about the song, since it feeds into the whole "fake news" conspiracy theory way of thinking. Not watching the news is a slippery slope that leads you down to becoming one of the people that vote for Trump / UKIP / Brexit and in doing that make the world a darker and unsafer place for all of us.
he doesn't say "stop informing yourself", he says "stop WATCHING the news", which means stop allowing TV brainwash you - and I can reassure you this is very valid especially in countries like US or Italy, where I am from.

Damn! I just discovered this new gem. This man doesn't change, he keeps creating these amazing lyrics, always describing/criticizing society through his own ideas. Something I have always loved from his songs, since The Smiths, is how he can use a very catchy and even frivolous tune to talk about something so transcendental and serious... this is Art, pure Art!

Caught it this morning on Radio 6 and it's bloody good! It's not what I expected, but after a couple listens I truly understand its genius. Some really interesting lyrics as well, as one might expect from Moz :)

I think some of the lyrics are hilarious in that classic Moz way, as they were probably intended to be, and I think it's way better than some songs on World Peace. However, I think the lyrics are best when read or listened to as a whole and relating everything to the context, as opposed to extracting specific couplets and analyzing them... But yes, I do believe there is a certain element of parody or satire within the song. In fact, I think it would've fit perfectly on "You are the Quarry". :)

Going through a very low period right now, however, it's quite an ardent comfort to know that the voice from my childhood is still not only producing work, but he seems to have a renewed vigor. That voice. That familiar old voice.
Loving the cheery organ. Nice juxtaposition to his sultry tones. And the vocal melody is a bit less predictable than usual (soz, Moz - true though ;) ) I want to keep playing it - feels as singalongable as anything from Bona Drag. Yey! Conclusion: I LOVE IT. He's back!

I don't think people get this song is sarcasm. He is inadvertently telling people to get out of bed and do something. This song is about how some people ignore the world's problems and in turn get "no bus, no boss, no rain, no train" or no job and no public transport because they dont want the govt to pay for it so they don't get it anymore.
