As a former RadioShack employee, I’m kinda dumbfounded that some kid on RUclips is giddy about this cheap weather radio. These were sold as an impulse item, basically. They were the cheapest weather radio. I’m pretty sure the 12-500 is just the RadioShack SKU, 12 being the product category.
I am aware of that, but RadioShack always made cool radios. I like their weather radios better than most of Midland's ones, and this particular model is important to me thanks to the videos I enjoyed watching years ago that featured it. It's just nice to have a simple device like this sometimes; even with my other weather radios, they can be a lot to keep up with when turning them off at night, which I don't have to do with this one. And the light on it doubles as a temporary nightlight in case I need to get up without wanting to turn on the main lights.
@ Autistic here, and game recognizes game, so I’m not going to be judgmental about any of that. I just find it amusing. Especially when I have clear memories of putting these things out on the floor after receiving one or two of them in a giant box, with a few small items for the parts drawer, with packing paper that was never crumpled, always flat in sheets. lol. The paper was just added weight! There’s a reason the company failed hard.
@@snarkwingduck1302 Well, thanks! I get that. It seems that even though RadioShack often used obnoxiously cheap designs and components, their weather radios really weren't too bad looking back on them. Those are interesting memories. My family never went to RadioShack very often, but I do remember being in awe of how many different cords/adapters/batteries/anything and everything that was there.
Ah, wow. I've heard of plenty of people finding various WeatherCubes in thrift stores, but even though I regularly go to one with about 60 feet of floor-to-ceiling shelves dedicated to electronics, I've literally never seen one at any stores.
Love this radio! I'll probably wind up getting one!
Me too. It's just a little odd with tuning, but some of that might be from my area having 3 strong signals on 3 adjacent channels. Good luck!
@SouthernWXMedia I've always heard of it being difficult
@ Yeah. Maybe the OG model is better. But I can't find out on that for a while, since the one I tried to order fell through.
Nice radio!
Thanks!
That’s cool. Same as what Cranford has.
Yep! One reason I've been wanting one. Thanks.
I saw the notification and went “WeatherCube.. What?” Lol!
Well, there you go!
@ Yep. Sorry, i was tired last night.
@ No problem.
I bought one of these for about 3 dollars the other day at a Goodwill.
That’s an excellent price for one of these, nice.
He should’ve ordered a nail clipper as well.
Why is that?

I found one of these at a thrift store before I got into eas and I didn't buy it. I've been punching myself in the face ever since
