When I first played this game, a few years ago, I didn't think it was that bad. It was enjoyable while it lasted, as long as you kept to the action and didn't listen to the storyline, and the music wasn't that bad. I only realized how out-of-place it was when I began to build up a collection of better games.
This game seems to me like a ridicule of 3rd person zombie kill-it-all games. It obviously doesn't take its self seriously and the characters are deliberately bad. Heck they're even breaking the 4th wall in the beginning, saying that the hero has no idea how or why is he there and some random voice... the general just told him that he is important... I think its an interesting and amusing concept, just poorly executed. It has potential, but needs polishing.
It's obviously meant to be a comedy. The problem is that the jokes are painfully unfunny because of the awful writing and acting. In fact, if it WERE meant to be taken seriously, it might be easier to laugh at it, but a terrible comedy is almost like a joy vacuum.
this game actually looks somewhat amusing, probably because of games like COD: Ghosts, The War Z, Bad Rats, and Ace of spades....... I wish I never bought any of those
RIP Legend. Its 2022 and your still missed. (I wish RUclips would stop making me change my memorial comment every 20 videos. When did they implement this new annoyance?!)
what the ...that dialogue... those cutscene...i dont even know what is life anymore, it seems like the person who did that game deliberatly made a very confusing dialogue and cutscenes
So were Grand Theft Auto 4, Bioshock, MGS4, Super Mash Bros Brawl, Gear of War 2, Fallout 3, Rock Band 2, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Dead Space, Persona 3 FES, Burn out Paradise, The World Ends with You, GRID, Resistance 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, Valkyria Chronicles, Patapon, Soul Calibur 4, Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, No More Heroes, N+, Crisis Core, Battlefield Bad Company, Wipeout Pulse, Civ 4: Colonization, Condemned 2, Castle Crashers, Red Alert 3, Motorstorm, Saints Row 2 Whats your point?
Watched this video the day it came out and didn't finish it for some reason. Came back to it today and it still remembers the time I was at when I stopped. Why can't youtube do that for a video I watched 10 seconds ago.
I agree entirely, you can fairly judge a game within the first half our to an hour at most. Anything that can't draw you in in that amount of time didn't come in with its best right away and therefore didn't make itself worth your time and effort and YES both of those are valuable to you. It's the same reason why I didn't care for either Duke Nukem Forever or Final Fantasy XIII, neither drew you in right away and therefore I couldn't invest in them.
In what universe is this true. The first level of Deus Ex is one of the finest pieces of design in the history of gaming. The complete freedom to approach the target in any way you choose, the usefulness of every single skill to a greater or lesser extent, the number of secrets to find and the inherent vulnerability of an inexperienced and underequipped JC contribute to one of the most memorable openings in PC gaming history. So no, comparing the two is dumb.
Gotta love the logic behind unlocking the gate. "We're not gonna let you attack the lock to break it, you gotta press your activation button THEN the character will attack it himself in an unneeded cinematic scene". If it weren't for these videos I might actually own some of this crap, thanks for saving all of us some time and money TB, even if it ment you had to sacrifice some of your own.
But since I know it's not forced and there's no justification or reasoning behind why the person in question believed it was forced (which is itself something that could be used to refine the presentation of the series), the criticism is of no value. Please understand I get enough criticism every day to cause the tragic suicide of a thousand emo teens and most of it doesn't tell me why they think that so I can't use it in any way.
What you consider control and control of pace also applies to books or even a series of pictures. Its the equivalent of turning the page or moving to the next picture. You also control what order you look at the pictures and so you control "where you go". Also what determines that its a game? The fact that the word "game" is in the description on steam?
JAMESTOWN! Oh god, that was driving me crazy! How can I know a song so well that I can hum along to most of it and have NO clue where it's from? Man, I feel like a genius now that I finally figured it out. Such a relief... Now I can watch the rest of the video, at last.
I think TB know's best how to provide entertainment for his own bloody videos, after all he's the one who's build it up from the ground down, and made it into a success. Just by doing what he thought was best, or funny.
I think it was in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends that the little blue dude said something along the lines of "If the first 5 minutes of the movie are boring, the whole movie is boring" so its only true to judge a game the same way
That is not constructive criticism. Most of you are really bad at giving criticism and need to be educated in how to critically think in order to give constructive criticism in the first place "this one felt... forced" is not constructive criticism. It provides no actionable information or reasoning to back up the opinion. It is a bad, lazy opinion of no value. The fact that people actually thumbed you up while you also did not give constructive criticism illustrates the problem nicely.
Oh my god, Total biscut read my mind. Right when he said "I hope the driving in this game is good" I thought about brutal legend aswell but my copy of it got stolen.
Speaking Spanish and Russian both, I hadn't considered that. Apparently I'm just dumb, but you're entirely right. Chances are they put their cash into the intro and main character. Majer looks actually not horribly shitty. Mind you, her accent isn't great either, the farmer, it's not too accurate, but it's not awful as far as those go. It's just about where they put the limited cash they had I guess.
That's nice but since you haven't played it your opinion doesn't mean anything. Feel free to purchase it and make a video of these amazing things that you like. Let me know when you do.
I understand that but at 3:00 when he went to install the game Steam listed that he only had 3.8gigs of space left and the install would take 1.4gigs of that. Systems with low space typically don't run as well as systems with lots of space free.
Right, well some would argue the version that "mattered" was the original or it may never had been on the PC. But I suppose you are correct in your original statement... so you win.
To TB: If you ever do Alpha Prime in this series, which is actually a pretty decent game (don't play on Hard,) be sure to fast-forward through most of the intro cutscene otherwise it will take up most of the video.
Battlestar Galactica got really started after a few epidoes, yet it's become my favorite series... I know, a show is different from a game, but you have to give more time to really slow burners. You might be missing out on a really good thing. I almost gave up on the show because of how slow it was at the beginning, yet it became my fave thing afterwards
Dead Island is an FPS and this appears to be a 3rd person action game. And Dead Island was constantly finding new weapons to grab to replace your broken ones. This looks like it should be better compaired to Dead Rising, rather than Dead Island. Also, I agree, Dead Island was one of the most fun zombie games I've played. Ever.
1:10 Well, comparing it to Geometry Wars wouldn't be entirely inaccurate. It's one more to the genre of twin-stick shooters and it has a colorful and spacey aesthetic to it. Actually a pretty old game, too. Came out in 2007. Costs only $3.99. Bullet Candy Perfect can be bought for $1 at its host site "Charlie's Games" I'm just disappointed that it wasn't actually a more conventional bullet hell game, and that it didn't include candy.
"This is where the game becomes a really good version of *Brutal Legend* right?" Ech... I think... I think that was my heart... I couldn't deal with remembering... that...
i agree on some parts of that, the whole point of "why do i own" seems like "lets rant about it" instead of looking at the game in a neutral point of view. Dunno but i think thats the idea of this format, and since its his channel he can do so as he pleases.
"In fact, I don't have a clue". That was very CLEARLY an audio rip from either KOTOR or KOTOR 2. IT's Canderous Ordo/Mandalore, I remember him saying that exact line in one of those games, and based off of the robot-like tone to the voice, I'm guessing it was from the second one. WTF?
By the way TB, there is a game that is basically old west GTA with zombies: Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. Just a recommendation, as it is a fun game.
Sorry, but a quick google search brought that in 2008 GTA IV, Left 4 dead, Fallout 3, and little big planet came out, 2009 brought Batman arkham asylum, Borderlands and Dragon age, and in 2010 we got Fallout: NV, Mass effect 2, the alpha release of minecraft, Red dead redemption, and starcraft 2. Not exactly sure what you were trying to say in that comment but there sure as hell were good games.
Thanks for the heads-up. I played the first mission of Deux Ex and I kind of share your opinion, and, because of that, I just thought "a lot of people told me this game was good, oh well, I guess this game isn't for me", and just left it to rot. I'll continue it whenever I can.
the game got cruelly bad, you are a saint for sticking around long enough to try and find a redeeming feature and not turning the sound off the moment that annoying hick opened her mouth
I think the comment on the 'forced' delivery of the video was more talking about you going into the game with the mindset it will be terrible (I'm not arguing that you are wrong) but perhaps going into the game a bit more open-minded might be an improvement but then that kinda defeats the purpose of the series. In my opinion i think people might just be taking this series of "Why do i own..." a little bit too seriously considering its just a bit of fun. :) Keep up the good work TB
"Why do I own... : Pound of Ground" I ask myself this every time I see it sitting greyed out in my steam list. Darn sales always end up putting some of these stinkers in my library :D Where were you in 2010 when I bought this TB!?
Red car you say?
10/10 Game of the Year
-IGN
You had me at "red car" TAKE MY MONEY DAMMIT!
OMG YOUR STEAM LIBRARY!!!
I know. It gives me anxiety. Love watching these old TB videos though. Rest in peace.
The music during the intro cutscene, when the monster shows up, is taken from Hitman Contracts. Specifically, the track "Sanitarium".
Version that mattered (the PC one) was in 2008.
my friend bought me 2 games
first Bad Rats
then pound of ground
Kingdom hearts 2 had an extremely slow beginning. But it was amazing.
kingdom sharts
u wot m8
Judging from the dialog in this game I assume Tommy Wiseau wrote for Pound of Ground.
Oh my god, i'm crying right now the voice acting at the beginning is so goddamn funny.
One piece of music is "47 Detected" by Jesper Kyd, from Hitman Contracts. Other music is most probably also "borrowed" from other sources.
When I first played this game, a few years ago, I didn't think it was that bad. It was enjoyable while it lasted, as long as you kept to the action and didn't listen to the storyline, and the music wasn't that bad. I only realized how out-of-place it was when I began to build up a collection of better games.
It's like they tried to rip off the visual style of Psychonauts but gave up halfway.
This game seems to me like a ridicule of 3rd person zombie kill-it-all games. It obviously doesn't take its self seriously and the characters are deliberately bad. Heck they're even breaking the 4th wall in the beginning, saying that the hero has no idea how or why is he there and some random voice... the general just told him that he is important...

this game actually looks somewhat amusing, probably because of games like
COD: Ghosts, The War Z, Bad Rats, and Ace of spades....... I wish I never bought any of those
WAIT A SECOND. At 5:16. That music is from Hitman: Contracts. It's called "Sanitarium".
I can't handle the voice acting! I fucking can't!
The voice acting is so bad that i died and now i'm a terribly animated zombie
The real question is Why do I not own this?
RIP Legend. Its 2022 and your still missed. (I wish RUclips would stop making
me change my memorial comment every 20 videos. When did they
implement this new annoyance?!)
TB should really be using Steam Roulette for this but probably not available at the time. If ever brought back, do Inside Gaming Style.
It would probably help if he had a map
Did this game nick that track at 5:40 from Hitman Contracts?!
what the ...that dialogue... those cutscene...i dont even know what is life anymore, it seems like the person who did that game deliberatly made a very confusing dialogue and cutscenes
That first cutscene. What a terrifying preview of the madness to follow.
So were Grand Theft Auto 4, Bioshock, MGS4, Super Mash Bros Brawl, Gear of War 2, Fallout 3, Rock Band 2, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Dead Space, Persona 3 FES, Burn out Paradise, The World Ends with You, GRID, Resistance 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, Valkyria Chronicles, Patapon, Soul Calibur 4, Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, No More Heroes, N+, Crisis Core, Battlefield Bad Company, Wipeout Pulse, Civ 4: Colonization, Condemned 2, Castle Crashers, Red Alert 3, Motorstorm, Saints Row 2
Whats your point?
So it's got lots of zombies, that's alright and all, but the most important thing is that it's got Red Car.
All games need 30% more Red Car
This dialogue sounds like it was run back and forth through google translate multiple times.
This game is still available too
On an off-topic note: I am highly impressed by your extensive Steam library.
Watched this video the day it came out and didn't finish it for some reason. Came back to it today and it still remembers the time I was at when I stopped. Why can't youtube do that for a video I watched 10 seconds ago.
The steam game library we wish we all had...
If this game were free, it would be hilarious and possibly worth the time for that.
I wonder how they were able to use music from Hitman Contracts in the game.
In what universe is this true. The first level of Deus Ex is one of the finest pieces of design in the history of gaming. So no, comparing the two is dumb.
That general sounds like Ren from Ren and Stimpy.
My name is Farmer, Local Farmer.
Yikes. I'm not sure how he played this, I can barely WATCH it.
There's definitely worse games out there. At least it's playable. It's a Indy game, just needs some polishing
10:40 House of the Dead: Overkill perhaps? Best zombie game music ever.
This game is cursed for real
inb4 copyright strike from Centauri Productions
ROFL that ending :D.
In the briefing at the beginning, why is Hitman: Contracts music playing?
i would love to see TOTALBISCUIT the game or movie i mean that with all respect
Cus that's the American way xD
I think the graphics are pretty fucking rad.
I've got to say that the death at the end of video was pretty cool. Watching all those coins spew out of you was pretty awesome.
Oh god the mexican accent is much too overblown/overdone. It does get on the nerves quite fast.
I fell asleep mid-playthrough. No joke.
This video makes me feel much better about my purchasing choices on Steam.
What you consider control and control of pace also applies to books or even a series of pictures. Its the equivalent of turning the page or moving to the next picture. You also control what order you look at the pictures and so you control "where you go".

Pound of Ground :D!? more like pound of shit
Puns.... I need more...
pound of ground.. hmm... kinda like a jar of dirt?
looks like fallout
the voice acting is absolutely awfull
That dialog... I can tell that it was made by czechs who didnt know much of english. I'm czech too.
I think TB know's best how to provide entertainment for his own bloody videos, after all he's the one who's build it up from the ground down, and made it into a success. Just by doing what he thought was best, or funny.
Geez this is the most annoying voice acting I've ever heard!

I can't stop thinking that general is going to pull a zipper and Ren from Ren & Stimpy is going to jump out of a costume and reveal himself.
Speaking Spanish and Russian both, I hadn't considered that. Apparently I'm just dumb, but you're entirely right. Chances are they put their cash into the intro and main character. I definitely would like more of this series, even if you had to re think the formula.
Because that is not a constructive or detailed replied and is just as bad as the criticism to begin with.
Cynicalbrit works too, plus y'know the big banner at the start of every video is a dead giveaway
Yeah you're right, it's not like the game is obviously awful in every respect, I'm clearly exaggerating things....
Dead Island is an FPS and this appears to be a 3rd person action game. And Dead Island was constantly finding new weapons to grab to replace your broken ones. Ech... I think...
I think that was my heart... I couldn't deal with remembering...
that...
@ 5:15 music written by Jesper Kyd from Hitman: Contracts starts playing, what the fuck?
Yeah, casual bowling FTW I think we can all agree we want a 24hr livestream of zombie bowl-o-rama
really digging the "Why do I own" series
i agree on some parts of that, the whole point of "why do i own" seems like "lets rant about it" instead of looking at the game in a neutral point of view.
Dunno but i think thats the idea of this format, and since its his channel he can do so as he pleases.
This game seriously looks like something one of my Tutors would chuck together for us to test when we were just learning to games test...
WTF?
Good pick. Alpha prime, Alternativa and Pound of Ground are all from a same small european country.
By the way TB, there is a game that is basically old west GTA with zombies: Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. Just a recommendation, as it is a fun game.
Again Hitman Contracts music at 20:53 - 21:36.
Since the first "Why do I own ..." video was about Bad Rats, it really shouldn't come as a surprise.
Nice going! You repaired your car while running around without your car. Thats not bad at all!
The classical music in the beginning makes me crack up every time.
Interesting how out of this series the game that TB enjoyed the most so far was a casual bowling game...
10:50 The game he was thinking of was Nation Red. I really enjoyed that game. :)
question do you relies that car wasn't fully functional it was missing its wheels
He doesn't want us to know that he secretly enjoyed it and has put many hours into it ever since :P
Holy shit, the list of your steam games starting with the letter A is almost as big as my entire library.
Best voice acting and dialog in any game ever
I think the comment on the 'forced' delivery of the video was more talking about you going into the game with the mindset it will be terrible (I'm not arguing that you are wrong) but perhaps going into the game a bit more open-minded might be an improvement but then that kinda defeats the purpose of the series.
