Work Sharp makes a non *Benchmade* sharpener, exactly the same, but its yellow... and half as *expensive* (paid $14 for the yellow one). I love mine, it can touch up a blade really quick and its small enough to throw in a back pack to have with ya all the time. The strop leather is so so, but works ok. The ceramic rod is awesome. Overall its a great sharpener!
Four and a half years after this video came out and I finally ended up purchasing one of these. I still am brand loyal to the Edge Pro Professional system I use, but ever since my job allowed knives to be used again I wanted a touch up system on the go. Hopefully this is worth the money, not that it was expensive, but it was a bit higher than other field sharpeners.
On my 940, I typically just run it on the ceramic stone and strop it. I'm a bit too nervous to run it on the diamond stones because I'm still a very novice knife sharpener.
Closeups when it’s not called for no closeup when u need it diamond stone closeup during ceramic sharpening what’s going on who edited this great job 😂.
I have all of the hi end benchmades with the sv90 steel and it destroys shapeners, knocks the diamond off in one use and it can smooth out a rough stone rather quickly, they hold edges longer, especially the full size late model sv90 bug out , I’ve already worn out 5 work sharp field sharpeners on one bug out , my mini bug out is made from sv30 which is still hard but gets a burr much faster than the sv90 stone killers 😂
I just recently purchased the Benchmade Steep Country 15006. I have two questions; first, what angle does this particular knife need to be sharpened? I was told 17 degrees but I also heard 14 degrees per side. Second, does Benchmade sell a sharpener that's catered for this knife? Thank you
There's a standard worksharp version that's yellow and much cheaper don't let benchmade scam you for them just making the guided sharpener blue and slapping their name on it.
I love this sharpener. It’s much better than the spyderco tri-sharpener. I had three knives sharpened in about 30 minutes. I sharpened my wife’s knives for cutting veggies and she loves that I bought this - even for $40 !!! I might buy a second just to have...
You failed to mention the easiest, most basic way to determine whether or not a knife is sharp - place it at a 90 degree angle to your thumb and rub your thumb across it. To determine if you have a "rolled" edge, do this from both sides of the knife. If one side is rolled, use a gentle stroke or two and take care of the rolled edge. Easy-Peasy.
So Work Sharp makes these for BenchMade, no wonder I can buy 2 Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener for the price of 1 BenchMade, and that’s what I did. Changing the color from Yellow to Blue must be expensive guys and gals and I’m a big BenchMade fan!
I appreciate this vid. I have the work sharp machine but it's messing up some...and honestly its overkill for what the blade maintenance i do 99%of the time. The Benchmade version seems to be pretty well thought out - and I do EDC Benchmade knives....so I t think I will look very close at getting this.
This is literally just a blue worksharp field sharpener. Its made by worksharp and benchmade paid to put their brand on. Just buy the yellow one, its a tiny bit cheaper and is exactly the same thing.
Just got my new aluminum Bugout. Love the overall vibe, but Benchmade quality control is atrocious when it comes to blade bevel consistency. One side is pretty consistent; the other side looks like a kid sharpened it on the belt. Huge fat bevel from belly to tip. Just embarrassing aethetics for that price. Shameful.
@@alebastrgmailcom Including sometimes being "different" on each side of the same knife. Like I said, they suck. The knives themselves are quite high quality but the factory applied edges suck.
Is that a work sharp shirt? I’m going to bet that the benchmade sharpener is pretty much the same as the worksharp one, just rebranded and sold for a markup because of the name.
kawika dav Agree. In this case they are very same. In fact the original one with yellow colour is better in field. More contrast. And for my taste way more beautiful than blue. And the Benchmade one is more expensive with zero reason. Actually it should be cheaper because it has advertisement essences.
They're made by Darex in China. I own 2 Benchmade knives from USA, but China is capable of quality products. Many company's outsource these days, and Made In Taiwan doesn't mean what it used to in the 70's.
Peter Basaraba I didn’t talk about outsourcing, I say this is a blue worksharp, and I like the original yellow one which is way cheaper but is the original one. Benchmade ordered then in blue to ripoff people out of knife community. Other than colour nothing is different.
Not only has Benchmade done this with Work Sharp, but they did it with Exotac ferrocerium rods as well. Same blue color... I will be purchasing the products mentioned by Exotac and Work Sharp versions respectively. Why pay double just for the Benchmade name? WTF?
I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.
If there was ever was any doubt on if the internet was a terrible, stupid place, look no further than how many people commented on something so stupid and insignificant. I’m pretty sure the inconsistency is to show the technique, not to be nominated for an Emmy
Don't own a benchmade but i have owned the regular worksharp guided field sharpener and if your thinking about buying one buy the regular one not the benchmade branded one all they did was make it blue and put their logo on the plates (which in some reviews people have said it actually interferes with the diamond plate actually giving a consistent edge.
Pat Dorigatti did you happen to catch the company logo on the guys shirt that was demonstrating it?... you didn’t did you. It is a WORKSHARP rep demoing it. It’s made by WORKSHARP!

I mean 25 degrre

How did it go ?
I love this sharpener. Puts a good edge on it with very little effort.
I absolutely love love love the bm knife sharpener gets mine razor sharp and I use up to 6in fixes blade on it to and the strop is amazing!!!
I use it for my kitchen knives and my interchangeable blades for my OTF switch blades.

They put a slot for broad heads?! Hell yes, I could definitely use this!

Does it work on S30v steel?

The Benchmade IS a WorkSharp. Its not made or produced by Benchmade at all.
You won’t regret buying this. It’s amazing. I use it for my strider, spyderco knives.
Will this sharpen my knives enough to cut through guns

Hi, can you get a mirror polish with this on your edge?
probably not, you would most likely need a finer grit stone
Need a 22-25° for the bigger Benchmade. Like Presidio and Adamas.
Good to know
Would sharpening a north fork on this screw it up since the angle of the blade is at 35 and the guide is 25?
the north fork also have a recurve, doesn't that make sharpening nearly impossible on a flat stone?
With the recurve on the blade, you should use the Spyderco Sharpmaker. 😆
Do you have to clean this tool?
Informative and easy to use.
The video needs some sequence editing.
How does it work on the S30V ? I have the Bushcrafter 162 and the Bugout.
If you bought Benchmade you spent way to much.
Can you use this on 440c steel? I have a viper tech ghost OTF tanto blade! Can I sharpen with this?

Why is it that Benchmade offers a sharpener with a different angle than is initially ground on the knives you sell?
Because the edges that Benchmade puts on at their factory ... suck.
@@alebastrgmailcom Including sometimes being "different" on each side of the same knife. Like I said, they suck. The knives themselves are quite high quality but the factory applied edges suck.
LeRoy Parson because benchmade’s quality control is nonexistent so you’re gonna want to end up reprofiling the edge anyways
I don’t like benchmade knives. Never hold an edge but I love this sharpener on my strider and spyderco knives.
I just bought this sharpener and i pulled off the stones and was wondering why the course and fine sife made in CHINA???
Does this also have 25 degree guides for the ceramic rod and strop?
Yes it does
were can you buy that blue knife display stand?
Where you get the replacement plates?
Nice 👍👍👍
Cool
Yeah get standard work sharp n paint it blue bam u got pretty much the exact same thing
Yet the Benchmade version has fewer diamonds on the coarse side because of the logo. It's a very versatile sharpener for it's size.
❤
I have 1 of these. gets yur knives so sharp they can cut buttair.
@Eric Brooks I read it as butthair
Love your comment

Butterfly tax benchmade always loves to overvalue their name so much its a huge turn off to any of their offerings great isn't it?
That’s not a Benchmade by any mean. That’s a blue Work Sharp with a Benchmade lable on it.
kawika dav Search “WorkSharp guided field”. I have ordered one from Amazon.

Why play distracting music?
why on earth did Benchmade imprint their logo ON the coarse grit? This makes inconsistent sharpening because of the logo divots. 🤡🤡🤡
