I work 60 -80 hours a week. I drive an hour and nine minutes to work 6 days a week. I get a week of vacation,no sick leave,no holiday pay, no pto nothing!!! I feel like a week is a slap in the face. I wake up at 5am drive to work at 5:30 and get home 8-9 pm. Workout 30 minutes take shower go to bed. What an American dream this is.
I shared this on a similar video. I'm a salaried employee, civil engineer & project manager. Typical work week is about 55-65 hours, roughly 06:30/7 am to about 5 or 6 pm. (1730-1900) I took two days off during COVID-19 (I get 10 work days a year for vacation), that I had scheduled before the virus had been common knowledge. My plans had been cancelled, so I decides to still use the days and stay at home and do some chores around the house. My boss made a couple of snide comments during a Zoom meeting of several higher ups that I was the only person he knew taking vacation time. I don't think I'll take any more vacation time this year after that. I'm also in the Army Reserve, and that takes a few days from work a year, and I hear complaints about that from my boss, and I'm treated as if I've been on vacation, ready to work! We also usually eat at our desks during lunch, and are sometimes given tasks for homework. Failing to respond to emails or texts during the weekend or at night is frowned on. I work in the Midwest United States.
PTO is not as great as people say I would rather be working then sitting around like a sloth. I have flex hours at my job and I have 144 hours which equals out to be 3 work weeks and 3 work days. I have not taken a single hour and I actually feel better than if I took off any hours.
