You are right, there is never a time when it is good for work. But I have no redundant coverage, a bus factor of 1, so I can’t really take vacation. Last time I got sent on a trip for work, nobody else wanted to touch my code, even though I told them how to do it. I just power through the lack of time off, HR sometimes gets upset that I just let years of PTO just pile up. Been doing it for years, and I’m still on this side of the dirt so it can’t be that unhealthy.
My wife just said I just take 2-3 days just to veg out at home doing nothing. Perfect timing for this video.
Literally started my vacation a couple days ago and I am so glad I planned it in advance and forced myself to take it. Right before taking the vacation I didn’t “feel” tired, but as soon as I put away my work laptop I realized how close to burning out I was

What happens if programming is also among the few hobbies?
Do you think a 'healthy' vacation for a programmer would be to completely detach from anything which is programming related?

I think you really need to define healthy for yourself. I've definitely coded on my own personal projects during a work vacation and I think that's completely fine. It's most important to take the vacation from your day job, but if you enjoy code on your own time then by all means! Just make sure you let yourself rest the best way you know how!
wtf :D I just request my holiday today and I had small disagreement with my manager because my holiday are when we start new project , but I did not want to change my holiday time just to meet company and project needs. Harry Wolff is mind reader or I am just living in a simulation :D
