    I mentioned this in the first video, I started with a hot dog cart about 6 Months ago ... Mac Daddys Dawgz & Catering in Raleigh NC. Some days suck, but most days are killing it money wise and it's growing week to week. I also don't work much with social media for marketing, but rely on word of mouth and so far that is working great for me. I'm starting to get calls for more locations and catering events as well.

    The guy isn’t lying about Boeing. My food truck has contracts with NASA, SpaceX, blue origin, Lockheed, Boeing, L3-Harris, OneWeb and Thalis. We don’t do any events open to the public anymore and he’s 1000% accurate about the festival stuff we avoid them like the plague. If a business doesn’t have at least 300 employees we won’t go. Then again I’m in Brevard county where they launch the rockets from. Great video and really accurate. This guy is gonna kill it. The hard work will pay off. Don’t buy a truck unless you can buy it cash because this Covid stuff hit and we were down for 5 months. I saw about 70% of the trucks disappear and get repossessed. We just weathered the storm and slept better knowing nobody can take this from us. Hope this helped if anyone has any questions I’d be more than happy to help spread my wealth of knowledge from doing this for over 5 years.

    With partners, we just spent 48k on a near new 16 foot trailer. Fully outfitted, the previous owner probably invested another 15k over the 65k he spent to custom build this unit. Its beautiful! I'm 60 (feel 59), been cooking for 45 years, opened up 13 restaurants from scratch, framed houses, professionally plumbed, ran a handyman business, repaired vehicles, food sales for Sysco. All the while running restaurants. I'm a lifer. The reason for sharing my history is that if you are interested in the food business (brick & mortar, truck, trailer, concessions), as an owner/operator, you'll need some experience or aptitude in just about everything I listed. This business is brutal, overwhelming , leads to addiction, relationship buster, multiple baby mama's and generally owing a shitload of money to a shitload of people. But hey, I still love it! I'm in Washington state (Olympic peninsula) where the cost of starting and doing business isn't for the faint of heart . That being said, take out, to-go, fast food is the new covid reality for the intermediate future (Washington just banned indoor dining again)! Be scared but good luck!

    Great video and all the information also Thank you so much for your service sir. I have to say though one of the biggest reasons for his popularity is his military career. So he got a huge boost from that and congratulations. I really think he needs to get with other veterans and make "Vet Chef" a brand that can boost more veterans who want to open a food truck. Maybe friends of Vet Chef or something. Then people can patronize more trucks to support our Veterans.

  • @wagil90
    @wagil90 4 года назад +19

    I've watched this video several times. There is a lot of good info being said but also things that don't add up either. he obviously works more than the 2 days a week that he first mentioned because he follows it up by saying the middle of the week tue-wed-thur. with Tuesday being a double shift so really that's 2 days in 1. He said he would like to have 1000-1200 in sales per service. $417k divided by 1000 is 417 outings. 417 outings divided by 52 weeks means 8 services per week. so lets say he does 4 services mid week and he does festivals on the weekends. it's still possible to gross $417K... I know people that sell 5-20K of food at a festival. but festivals can cost as little as $100 upwards of several 1000 for a spot for the weekend. or better yet a % of sales. So the thing to remember it's not the gross sales that matter but your net profit at the end of the day that you need to focus on. 35% food cost, insurance, workers, commissary ect ect. eats up a lot of profit. I still bet he nets 30-35% and in my area i could live well on that. a high cost metro area like he lives in it's ok money.... just lots of things to consider here kids. and the fall is the best time to pick up used trailers and trucks because its the end of the festival season and those that didnt strike it rich are cutting their losses and moving on.

      I’m also a veteran and when says 2 a days that’s a reference to us training twice a day. Just like football players having practice twice a day. So he’s serving/selling at lunch time and then serving/selling at dinner time. As for the 1000-1200 sales, I believe he’s referring to 1000-1200 percent not $1000-$1200

    • @ccardin1987
      @ccardin1987 4 года назад

      Meant to say 1000-1200 people

    • @kyleamandagourlie5957
      @kyleamandagourlie5957 4 года назад

      2 a days is a reference for training in the military. We operate split shifts (2 - 4 hour service shifts) 2-3 days per week and single shifts 1-2 days per week. We do not and encourage people to not participate in events or festivals that take more than 10% of your sales. You need to be smart about where your money goes out compared to what is coming in. Private events are a large revenue stream outside of lunches and events/festivals.

      Sales are actually up from our pre-Covid numbers. We have a lot of community members supporting local businesses as a result of wanting to see small businesses succeed.
      We have changed our business structure from corporate to neighborhoods. While we do still serve at corporate locations we do watch the number of people on site to make sure it is worth while. We have put a hold on corporate centers where populations have not returned to at least 50%.
      We buy our inventory from restaurant suppliers
      We store our items in the refrigerator on the truck. We do also have a commissary kitchen.
      We dump water at a RV park that we have an agreement with. We have commercial waste for garbage and recycling.
      We market by word of mouth and a little social media. When initially starting most of our marketing was cold calling local businesses and third party organizations.
