When are we gonna get our shot, Tommy? You gotta give us our shot. MLB did nothin’ to that guy, nothin’.
Love Terry for that. Mets got stuck in odd place where dirty slides where still legal but you can't retaliate anymore.
@@ekerson They had their shot at the future Hall Of Famer. They missed.
@@thedarkartist777 You still stand by this?
@@raimarulightning 100%
The cleanest slide till this day !
Hold on Utley never touched the base, yet he is safe. WTF is this
They said because Tejada never touched the base, but he went into the dugout, which is an automatic out
Also ran out of the baseline when he went to the dugout unless they think he touched 3rd idk I didn’t watch the game
I watched this game as a Mets fan all confused. I asked my Dad his opinion on this call after he was an umpire of all ages for many years to little League, high school levels and adult leagues. He told me if neither the runner nor the the fielder touched the bag, then you can't reverse the call, it has to stay as the original call was made.
and the fact that he literally ran STRAIGHT toward tejada and not the base. when the collision happened, tejada wasn’t on the running line he just decided to run straight into tejada’s legs
By rule, the Umpire called his elimination, so he didn't need to touch the base, I think that's why it was overruled
“That was gonna be a tough play anyway” yeah but that doesn’t justify taking his legs. Standing in the way of the throw, sure, but injuring a dude, naw homey.
I still can’t wrap my head around how people say it was a clean slide
because they didn’t have the slide rule violation back then so u can’t really say it was dirty . utley wasn’t trying to hurt tejada , he was trying to break up the double play so the tying run would score. everyone would do takeout slides back then
@@aaronaguilar9172 No, I don't think Utley thought in his head that he was about to break this man's leg, but it's completely disingenuous to run full speed into someone's leg and say I didn't mean to hurt him.
This is still one of the dirtiest things I’ve ever seen
GO DODGES, tejada is fine lmao
@@aaronaguilar9172 That's the thought that comes to mind. Like the tuck rule, according to the rules, it was "ok", but we know in reality, the rule ain't right.
Mets WON the series
The mets are trash
Still an extremely evil play by utley
Random Shenanigans You’re trash
@Mookie Über Alles how about dodgers?
Dodgers 2020 World Series champions
Didn't even bother to slide early. He went straight for tejada. Neither did he check on him to see if he was alright
He was breaking up a play
Fan2La I agree but c'mon, utley wasn't even going for the bag, he was going for his leg. At least make an attempt to try to get to the bag.
JaySchmid late slide
If ur breaking up the play why go for the bag with no man on it. Utley didn’t intend to hurt Tejada he needed the run to come in. That’s why he slid for the leg that late so they would have no chance of turning the double play. I hate the dodgers but that’s still a clean and smart play
He went for Tejada so he couldn’t make a throw, and he had no idea he was injured and Utley took a face shot
he crushes tejada beyond the base. so it's definitely an interference
+Matteo Sartarelli Nonsense Crybaby NY fans
+willminkorea2010 he took a cheap late slide but hey we beat the Dodgers BAHAHA and will do it again
+willminkorea2010 he started to slide when tejada touched the base. how are they crybabies, seriously, that jerk broke his leg. I guess thats what happens when you spend to much time in Philly
Guess it's not..Utley was released from suspension today 👍🏻
Jose Vasquez then lose in wildcard then don’t make the playoffs
2:14 i would not want to be the person david wright is staring at, at that moment. *chills*
Jersey trash? C'mon now. No one from jersey is trash. We are actually classier people than New Yorkers for damn sure. One of the nicest states in the country and classiest. Leave us the fuck alone the people from Jersey shore are NOT us they are a bunch of guido scum from NY.
Devin Lynch not every New Yorker is rude ik some nice New Yorkers just like not every person from Jersey is trashy. With both places you have your ups and downs in people
macho tony lel
Lol! Surprised Wright didn’t hurt himself giving those dirty looks. A sneeze will put him on the shelf for the year.
Brandon Kuo he wants to suck Chase off
Ron darling, former met and an analyst for the mets, you can tell he was disgusted
Brian Chua he's still butt hurt about game 7 NLCS 1988
He is a bad biased announcer. He celebrated Baez and Schwarber showboating but was critical of Puig.
@Ulysses432 Umm. Are you actually talking about biased people when every comment you make is biased against the mets lmao? Im not even a mets fan either and your comments bother me.
@Ulysses432 Are you fucking dumb? You were just pointing out darling being biased cuz he played for the mets. What do you mean? What was biased against the mets lol? Every comment you've made has had something to do with the mets being wrong or being biased lol. The slide was clearly dirty cuz he slide after the fucking bag damn near. Nobody does that any more cuz it fucking injures people. He didn't bother checking on tejada or even grabbing his helmet. If that's not evidence then idk what is.
@Ulysses432 I wanna know what team your a fan of. So I can give an example of your shortstops leg being broken because a player slide after the bag and didn't even bother to check on him lmao. Now that would be funny to see your ass change your point of view real quick.
Dodgers lost the series so Karma for them😂
GAMERR 727227 gamer831 but the mets lost
Kronixx gaming 8383 shut the fuck up the mets didnt even make it
Buck1es_ 99 But they still beat the dodgers bahahaha
1988 > 1986 Bobby Bonilla curse for the Mets. Have fun.
Carlos M. Pizarro there's someone who lives in the past, hey speaking of recent past .. YUI DARVISH lmfao
its a shame he didnt even touch the base like EVER and he is ruled safe - umps definitely making stuff up on this one - how is someone ruled safe if they 1) never touch the base, and 2) get up and run off the field?
Yeah if you go into the dugout you’re out
Frank Tank Tejada didn’t either.
@@arshanazmon7745 Doesn't matter, Utley never touched it
@@arshanazmon7745 utley left the field of play and ran out of line
“Just a hard nosed play” Bruh he ran right through Tejada. One of the dirtiest plays of all time
Utley never touched the bag and broke Tejada’s leg and ended his career. Then he gets rewarded too. Awarded second, no suspension. But never touched second and walks to dugout. The horrors of instant replay.
Lol the dude slid away from the base. There is no way he wasn't intending to hit the guy.
Utley didn't even touch the base
@Ulysses432 And yet this is why players can't slide past second without getting called out instantly along with the runner going to first to not get into a double play. It's pretty much this idiotic reason of Chase Utley's stupid, stupid decision!
He didn't know ss was going to move that way
Ya it’s not a baseball play. It’s a bullshit play.
Tejada didn’t touch the base so ultly is safe
He hit tejada on purpose. He is a jerk for doing that
It's one thing to try & break up a double play it's another to injure the opposing player & then run off the field without a care in the world whether the guy you just took out is ok or not... no sportsmanship at all on the part of Utley & that's why Mets fans were pissed off at this schmuck....
I'm from Florida and even I'm disgusted at this type of play. Least pretend you were going for the bag, dirty pool.
I'm a ReD SoX fan so no skin in the game but how the hell was this not interference? (double play) Utley should've been immediately suspended for the remainder of the playoffs. Dirty as hell.

@MavPlaysALegoGame Dirty but effective wasn't it? Got an opposing player off the field
varun hebli lol yea but it’s Ruben tejada.. he was garbo

They about to repeat.😍😍
@@mikehofer8708 This you? Didn't even get there, lmao
mets still met 8 years later 😊
they finally won it all in 2020 lol
He came in with a hook slide...with NOOOO attempt for the bag!!! Also i would like to point out the almost identical play when Utley played for philies
The rule is that if you go back to the dugout you are automatically out even if the defender didnt touch the bag. As a met fan, i was disgusted with this play and that is why the rule was made today to prevent things like this from happening.
Aaron Fishman I am with you
He was quick to the dugout, because he knew exactly what he had done.
That makes back to back bitch moves out of him.
rick kauffman he thought he was out
@Ulysses432 your so biased on every comment you make. Just stfu. You clearly just hate the mets. What's fucked up is the fact that he didn't even grab his helmet or bother to check on tejada. Who was laying there unable to get up. Smh. Fuck Utley. Dudes been a prick.
Ulysses432 Met fandom... that’s hilarious. My opinion on this is completely unbiased, as a baseball fan, who roots for neither of these teams... ya homer. lol
why are people down voting this video? they are giving you exactly what you wanted to see.
People aren’t bright and don’t know how to use likes/dislikes. Some people disliked what happened in the video and that’s how they express their disapproval.
I think this is why Facebook expanded the reactions.
That was bush league. No question. Speaking for other Yankee fans too. No love for the Mets but c'mon! That was totally intent to injure
what a ridiculous launch of his torso into the defender off to the right of the bag. I would believe that gave him quite the headache pulling that stunt... there's nothing clean about a play when you do what he did, and your force breaks the guy's leg.
Dodgers lose another world series as payback
MakeThisPlaceIgnite as payback?? Lmao are you dumb? This happened years ago and the mets couldn’t even make the postseason
It’d be payback if the mets beat the Dodgers in the postseason
most disgusting play I’ve ever seen
I'm a Phillies fan and Utley is a Phillies hall of famer and for years he was one of if not the cleanest player in the game. This is shocking
Jason Clark same im with you too Mets suck tho
He was always a dirtbag like everyone in Philly
MLB has since changed the rules on this matter so that this would be a double play. It came into play last night when on review, Jose Bautista was called for such interference, taking 2 runs off the board and meaning the Blue Jays lost by 1.
This is just ilegal, Utley shouldn't walk away free, he should be suspended and fine.
Alejandro Vargas Madrid he got suspended for 2 games after this
Yeah but it should have been more
Alejandro Vargas Madrid this slide has been around for decades
Buck1es_ 99 yea but this is way worse idiot
Alejandro Vargas Madrid ilegal it isn’t a law you can’t slide like that
It's a league game, Smoke.
1:00 Utley does not start his slide until he is about 2 feet from the bag. Notice where his slide is aiming: at the fielder, not the bag.
VenomousStare it's the playoffs and he was trying to break up a double play
but its an illegal slide
@Matthew Messina yeah true i wrote that over a year ago so i didn't know if i knew that
When I heard "MLB did nothin' to that guy, nothin'!" I immediately thought he was referring to Jim Joyce blowing Galarraga's perfecto!
Wow, is this the dodgers? really? utley clearly cleans out tejada in a dirty fashion and dodger fans cheer and play music....disgusting
+AJ808 Nobody knew his leg broke, calm down.
that occurred to me as well
+Steven well the medics came out and he's on the ground....
XxxMlgMcSwaggerton 666 Dodger fans cheered and music played when the run scored. I'm pretty sure the medics weren't on the field when Hernandez crossed the plate.
+AJ808 they weren't celebrating the injury. They were cheering for the run, that the game was tied, and that Utley broke up a double play. The other comments are as correct as they can be. Nobody knew how bad his injury until the medical cart came onto the field, there was nobody cheering when the cart came on the field. By the way, during the commercial break Tejada got a large ovation from the dodger crowd as they put him on the cart and took him off the field. How do I know? I was there.
Single handily ruined Tejada’s career
I’m so sad this Mets team disbanded I miss it
The on-the-field call should not have been overruled.
Does anyone know the name of the song playing on the background after 0:18?
Steve Aoki, Chris Lake & Tujamo - Boneless
@@jeffreyhuang5479 3+ years later, thank you for being awesome and letting me know what song this was. I've searched for quite a while.
Great slide 👌
Did anyone else think the injury was to the left shoulder and not the leg?
Utley never touched the base, he ran out of the baseline, and he abandoned the field of play haha. If the umps had just properly called him out at the time, we wouldn’t have needed a rule change or to over-analyze every slide that’s happened since.
Somebody, somewhere is going to get Utley back for this, and it will be a glorious day.
Ha he retired so no
@@dodgershighlights4081 oh i mean in life, not on the diamond ;)
I take some measure of solace in the fact that Utley got his BELL RUNG by a legit knee to head
Only silver lining, lol
Interesting how Tejada's right leg got the cast even though Utley's helmet nailed his left knee on the slide.
he scissored his right leg and broke it on a twist
This happened to me yesterday at one of my games, I have a broken fibula as well
He's running full speed and he's not expecting tejada to run past the bag and he can't slow down. Its like a defender going for the qb and the qb tries to slide and gets hit because the defender is already going full speed and can't pull back. The reason he started sliding so close is because he was going to slide in next to the bag and have his hand touch it. But he still should have been out.
Good old bartolo
Is that my man Ernie Johnson on commentary?
I just want to know the song at 1:30
I remember this game, my first playoff game, the reason I'm watching it again, just to relieve that moment ! What a game that was !
Utley is horrible. Clearly a dirty slide and if go back on the video utley never touched 2nd base and then ran off the field. Booooooooooooooo
At the time it's not a dirty slide
HE AIN'T!! HE IS A FORMER PHILLIE!!
the phillies are the dirtiest franchise lol
Wtf was he supposed to do? Stop running?
thats why i was confused to the safe call
What is that music in the background
Look up Steve Aoki - "Boneless". That's what it is.
@2:27, wright staring down the dodgers and Utley.
The runner never even touched the bag either lol
This play didn’t bother me as they said it was a hard nosed play made 30 years ago
What could have been 😔
Tejada could have been great
He could’ve been! If he didn’t turn his back to the runner.
Chase is THE MAN!!!!
And MLB makes Utley the international ambassador to baseball, yet Tejada lost all income, disgusting
The MLB needs to make rules protecting the fielders from hard slides and tackles like this one
nothing wrong with hard slides, but this was way off the bag just to have a shot at possibly injuring the 2nd baseman.
Utley Should Have Been Out For Unnecessary Roughness. That Would Have Been Cool... I Think!
Miguel Sandoval this isn't football
you're point being?
Miguel Sandoval
This isn’t football
Tejada shouldn't have spun like that, he could've avoided the slide a d jumped over Utley, maybe broke his fall. Instead he spins glove side, and gets shitted on by Utley
Tejada needed to spin because the throw from Murphy was on the wrong side of his body. He was outside the baseline when the collision happened. There was no reason Tejada should have jumped there, it made no sense in the context of the play and there was no way to anticipate that Utley would literally throw himself directly at Tejada.
Idk i mean ik it was a late slide, and it looked bad. But i just feel like thats baseball. I mean it happens. Its baseball. I agree with the one broadcaster. Its normal, it happens
He was clearly aiming for Tejada
IanSweater22 to save the game if you switched roles tejada would have done the same
Gonna start aiming fastballs at players heads to brush them off the plate bc thats baseball
2jake077 lmao
I'm glad the mets won this series, as a Yankees fan.
Looks to me like neither one touched the bag.
God damn Chase Utley left it all out on the field.
True, he left Rueben Tejada laying on the field in so much pain he could not stand.
@@isaacanderson8095 good
Tejada didn't move through the bag...Utley has the right to the bag. Tejada was blocking the bag, just like catchers block home.
Honestly, to me the biggest douche move is challenging the play with an infielder still rolling around, clearly injured. Come on...the ball beat him by a mile anyway. Not only that but your player just demolished this dude. Let them have the fucking out...
A typo NYM@LAD
Those commentators acted as if it was an incredible slide showing no empathy
He was like a foot and a half off the base which shows that it was intentional
Not a mets fan but I never liked utley after that play
The slide itself was disgusting but the fact he was called safe was even more disgusting... and the fact the Dodger fans were cheering after Utley just ruined Tejada’s career. Must suck to suck I guess. They just lost 2 championships in a row.
What’s the song @ 0:40
boneless
@@aaronaguilar9172 my guy, appreciate you!
Not the umpires fault. It was the call in New York
If you slow it down at 1:57 you can see the top part of his finger touch the bag that's why he was called safe
PierreShots-22shotas he went back into the dugout tho and the rules are if u go back in to the dugout u are automatically out
At 2:51, you can see that his hand goes right past the bag and touches the ground instead.
@@jackdunleavy5602no he went back into the dugout because the call on the field was out
CLEAN SLIDE. CAN'T ALLOW THE DOUBLE PLAY IN A PLAYOFF GAME.
Jason Sanders it was legal so it was technically not dirty
Se7en_Knight
Shit happens in sports.
Chase utley doesnt deserve to be in the hall of fame, he wont make it
In my opinion, the only thing that matters here is the total disregard for another human being.
Are you really gonna do this to me Utley?
What would have Utley had to do for the announcers to consider it not normal? Roll into Tejada like a bowling ball?
He didn't step on the bag either way
6:00, the guy in the blue shirt points at Tejada "NO".
Didnt see it at first and laughed at this one, thanks XD
This whole play is a bunch of bs he shouldn’t of been safe and they shouldn’t of called it a double play for the interference.
If I were the second base ump utley would have been ejected. Sorry for any misspelling on the names.
LOL Mets crybabies. This is a mans sport. Utley has within his right to use his body to prevent the double play.
He broke the guys leg
Isn’t he out ?
Why didnt anyone on the mets go over to utley after this
What makes people think that’s clean? Slide from behind, dirty
The thing people forget is that was a legal play, don't matter if it was clean, the play was legal. Also he was called safe because even tough he didn't touch the bag, he was called out before he left the field which wasn't what technically happened, so he was rewarded 2nd base because it's a he left the field because he was already called out.
Also that slow turn around at 5:17 when utley realizes he might have to go back out
Utley never touched the base, Tejada didn't tag the base and both were in the wrong.
since the call on the field was out, utley didn’t have to touch the base anymore
I would’ve gone and started a brawl over this. Utley did some horrible stuff
Oh, man, the way Tejada's leg moves in his pants, almost like he has an extra joint between his knee and ankle...jeez, man.
It's too bad Utley didn't get hit by that pitch the next season, frankly. Piece of LA garbage.
The whole argument of whether he’s safe or not doesn’t really matter when you realize Utley never touched the bag. He never should have been called safe.
4:13 Cal, come on. Are you taught to cause injury to the infielder just to stop them from turning two? Are you taught to not slide until you're even with the bag?
The same fans who are crying in the comments are the same fans who say baseball is getting soft
Big difference between hard nose plays and dirty plays lol.. get real.
Wouldn't Utley be out anyway? He interfered with the play to first which is why he missed the bag himself.
clearly dirty, no question. tired of commentators always trying to give guys the benefit of the doubt.
MLB Fornicated that entire deal up from start to finish Utley's tackle slide would of got him tossed from the game in the dirtiest playing leagues in the country if for nothing else than to protect his life. Never mind MLB in New York totally forked up the call in replay regardless if Tejada missed the bad which I don't think you can conclusively say Utley never ever touched the bad and left the field of play. I to this day do not know how Utley did not get beaned more than once by the Mets pitching.
I don’t even like the Mets very much but breaking someones leg isnt ok
HE DIDNT TOUCH THE BASE!
Utley schould be our because he never touched second
Neither player touched the bag..a hard-nosed play with no results
