Food spoilage is a cool mechanic, but, at 5:11 in to this video, a prompt shows honey being lost to spoilage.
Thousands year old honey has been found, unspoiled and still edible. Honey doesn't typically spoil.
It does have antibacterial properties, however, and can be applied to wounds to speed healing.

There's a medieval city builder called Foundation that I like. It's still in early access and still needs some work. One thing I like about it is that it's not on a grid. When you place a building you have 360 degrees of rotation and can move it around pixel by pixel. Paths are formed by people walking directly where they want to go and people tend to follow existing paths. You don't build houses but you paint residential zones and your builders build houses as needed. It has a bunch of other mechanics I haven't seen in other games as well.

This sounds exactly what I have been waiting for decades now. I always hated games like this where you build something by just plopping it down; folding your arms; and blinking. And having a magical mana of food production was always face palming too. This looks so realistic yet has good game mechanics behind it too. Architecture, carpentry, food processing and storage, all were always super important in all colonies in history.

I've beta-tested the developers games previously and know their team well. "This sounds exactly what I have been waiting for decades now." is exactly why they decided to branch into this genre. They felt there was a lot of untapped potentials and it hasn't been done very differently in a long while now.

I’ve been playing this game with only a few hours sleep since it released. I do have some issues though. Mainly UI related
    - Flip between similar buildings (E.g. foragers)
    - Have an overview of travel time, work time, villagers info e.g. being idle and not working
    - Have a larger overview of resources needed and lacking

Crate Entertainment are just a great bunch of people doing an excellent job and listening to their community.
There is only one thing so far i would criticize, some animations could be improved, for example the firewood production looks a bit weird because the cut wood is just vanishing and warping.
However, this game starts in Early Access.

For its price it is worth it, replayability is good as you learn new mechanics that you can implemented on your next play, restarting map is not that frustrating, there's are quite a tons of detailed and complicated mechanics implemented that need more practice and playing to get it right. The game is beautiful but can be a bit tedious since you are rewarded more with more micro management to fine tune your settlement. Building your settlement involved a lot more around strategy that pure aethestic since raiders are quite a problem specially at higher difficulty, you need to plan ahead on your design so as not to waste valuable resources and time adjusting and moving your buildings. In terms of quantity of contents it doesn't have that much but like I said there are a lot of complicated and complex mechanics which adds to more playtime and replayability, in the long run hopefully with more quantity of content this game could be a truly great game.

This reminds me a lot of RimWorld haha. For me, playing RimWorld on a tribal start and/ or playing a medeival run is the funnest because you face the same challenges, like food acquisition and food storage. Similarly if you play in the boreal forest biome you have to prepare for autumn/ winter where things can't grow. Likewise, you're attacked by animals and by raiders.

I love FF! It could do with a few enhancements but overall feels pretty polished. An insert map allowing you to quickly jump to any area on the playing map would be handy. I agree it can be tedious clicking on say individual trees to be cut. I have no problem with iron limited to trade prior to obtaining a foundry. You can acquire a lot of gold and necessary food via the trading screen which is one of the best innovations IMO. So looking forward to planned enhancements. Hope railroads make an apperance along with other 19 century tech.

@@tsuelue That's not to say it can't be done... there are a number of examples where a developer can bolt on co-op/multiplayer and maintain a top notch single player experience. Divinity OS2 comes to mind. But I feel developers have lately relied heavily on multiplayer to gloss over traditional gameplay mechanics and form, such as storyline, early/late game balance, AI neglected/ignored or just overall cohesion. Just build a skeleton of a game, make it multiplayer and profit. Me personally, when I see a new game being promoted for it's multiplayer experience, I avoid it. I've missed out on Valheim, for instance. I'm not sure what kind of games you play... but I can say for sure Farthest Frontier is not going to be action packed, it does look very promising for it's niche-genre though.

I wish they had spent more time creating dynamic AI than fiddling with the needlessly complex and time-consuming crop system. I personally wanted less economic min-maxing and micro management and more focus on the needs/aspirations of your citizens. It doesn't feel like it adds anything meaningful to the genre. Songs of Styx is similar but on a far grander scale and actually presents meaningful QOL improvements and depth to NPC systems. @legacy gaming you should check that one out.

IS there anything resembling Late-Game? - I love Banished and have many playthroughs, but am always saddened by the lack of late-game achievements. Is there anything to show that you've accomplished something beyond watching that pop-count climb? Games like City Skylines do not suffer from this, as their intricacies compound and you can spend hours just fixing the traffic/transit system, but Banished really fell into auto-pilot.

I’m a huge banished fan, so i appreciate the comparison. I’d say it’s on par with Banished, excelling in some areas, while being limited in others that Banished gets right. The priority system is one of them. I also find that banished does a much better job giving you the ability to pull up info panels and keep them on screen without getting intrusive. That being said I think the overall experience in FF is more interesting top to bottom

The game is insane BUT when they can add the element to fight against people (like in Settlers) this woulbe be simply the game of 2022. But really.

I wish the game is more like AOE it more fun. This is kinda hard. Not fun when u populations get disease and don't have enough meat to go around...

Sounds a lot like what Banished wanted to be.

They feel like different games, albeit loosely connected. I was an avid Banished player, but unless you use a ton of mods it gets stale really quick. FF feels a lot more polished, albeit still not incredibly deep. Needs more content and some refinement of its existing content, but it’s definitely got potential.

Some of the mechanics appear to be similar to medieval dynasty
