    1. You can deny food into the market, makes no sense in terms of realism within context. However root cellars are far better at holding food and can have 10 barrels, markets only have room for 5. Citizens will use your root cellars to get food and income wise I havn´t seen any benefits from food in the market. The first thing I do after the market is built, deny it any food, you do need root cellars close to your houses. (covered in the video, I am writing this because it´s extremely important).
    2. The game isn´t realistic when it comes to time. Some things which in a normal village would take 1 day to transport, could be milk f.ex., it might take 2 months in game time if your barn is a bit too far away from the city like mine is in my current game, milk will never reach the citizens, milk is for making cheese which currently is broken, cheese is extremely fast to produce and last a long time. Bread suffers from the time issue and the baker needs to be built where your houses are, I wouldn´t bother though, it steals all your flour in a zip and makes stuff which is guaranteed to spoil. Keep your grain for beer and cows.
    3. It´s faster to delete existing roads and build stone roads, the upgrade process is somewhat borked and may take several seasons for 2 long roads. My guess is that it depends on layout and pathing, had games with no problems but the last two it was a decade project to get a few roads upgraded. I do like to build asymmetrical, could be a reason.
    4. Get a barn, buy cows, set milking to on when you have built the cheese maker, watch your food woes disappear. Build root cellar, granaries, 3 corn rotation fields, cheese maker and barn next to each other. People will get your cheese if they are hungry, so that particular root cellars doesn´t have to be close to houses, deny other foods except for root vegetables.
    5. Rotate your fields. 1 entire season should have two work sessions and a clover growth, the other 2 seasons can be pressed more as you want food growing in spring and late winter. Carrots, the two pea options and turnip are the only things you should grow, the rest either spoils too fast and/or leaves no room for a work session in between. If you are a natural born turtler you can cheese this, use the first 8 seasons to simply prep for big growth.
    You make one field and only do work/work/clover or 2 clovers. You then make a new field and take the workers off the previous field, do the same rotation as mentioned. You can repeat this 6 times f.ex. and the 3 farmers will tend to all fields and do as much as they can accomplish. Farmers help out in nearby fields, so you can set a final crop rotation and employ farmers as you get more people to fields which are ready and done. There will be no food shortages as you havn´t grown much, hunters, foraging and some fishing will have you covered.
    6. Your town center should be left alone and houses built a bit away from it. Unlike in the video you don´t need roads around your town center, actually you don´t need roads at all initially, but it´s up to you. Roads are nice initially as an alignment tool. You will want your first and second storehouse build next to the town center along with the trading center, trading is important and you need goods moved fast. That area should then be walled in, initially with palisades, two archer towers should suffice to keep any raiders off your back, the town center will help. The walls should enclose the town center, the two storehouses and the trade building while allowing for the town center to shoot at anything beating them.
    7. You will need roads .... :) .... the very first steps are incredibly important though and you will want to focus all your efforts on maximizing productivity, for the first 8 houses and other crucial buildings it´s my experience that its better to focus on building and roads after. The only problem being alignment and that roads sometimes don´t want to be built where you want them. Some types of terrain are awful for road/building alignment.
    PS: Make cheese ...... it´s kind of cheesy.

    it needs a small map like anno where you can click on it instead of scrolling

  • @wastedwatts
    @wastedwatts 2 года назад +5

    I have been using hunters to take out wolf dens, and most other bad critters like bears and boars and explore as a group. Boars are too much of a kill without around 3 hunters teamed up, but you might be able to get by with two hunters. I build a few hunter shacks not too far apart and when they are ready to hunt, pause the game and left click on the guy, or gal icon in the shack. Now I can click on the map and they will go there. Send 2 hunters to the shack nearest the target, and do a box around all 3 hunters so you control them as a group. Right click where you want them to go and they will arrive after a while and stand there for around a minute and a half before doing whatever the programming tells them to do in an automatic function. If you right click on a target, a wolf den, wolf, bear, or whatever, the group will automatically attack it, but only one will harvest the meat, hide, and such. Group the remaining two and have them go somewhere, or attack something, and again, one will harvest the meat, hide, and such.

    • @wastedwatts
      @wastedwatts 2 года назад

      There are a few things to keep an eye on, or your hunters will die of starvation, or something. There are four circles that tell you things like current food satisfaction/hunger (diet), warmth, happiness, and health. Obviously each of those affect any activity you send them to do and can be a problem to the success of the task.

    • @wastedwatts
      @wastedwatts 2 года назад

      Another thing to ponder, hunters and foragers make great early warning folk, where the hunters will attack raiders coming, or going away, but at the risk of getting killed. Foragers tend to just run towards the town seeking protection. In either case, you want their shacks near your roads placed outside the town since the raiders tend to use any road you have made and this helps you place the shacks. I haven't yet tried walling in with a gate the shacks to see if the hunters will run to their shack after taking a few hits from the raiders. Sort of a small compound for them to retreat to if chased by a raider they shot.

  • @wastedwatts

    Farming is something you want to start in tier 1 since by tier 2 the villagers are needing another food source. That doesn't mean you have to do much with the farms other than fertility, rocks, and weeds. What I am still researching is small farm plots vs. large.

    • @Mortzzz

      Any updates?

    • @wastedwatts
      @wastedwatts 2 года назад +3

      @@Mortzzz Yes, but I am still editing a seven plus hour recording. Two significant discoveries is housing and farming. Basically, once you can get markets in (town center tier 2) you get stupid crazy putting in excessive housing, even to the point of having 100 houses waiting for villagers to move in. As long as you can keep the food flowing in and the houses inside the circle of influence of the market, the gold flows in. You may want to ensure the gold is spent by the last month of the year, or have very little by then end of January to prevent huge raider attacks. As to farming, always make the field huge, as big as the game will allow. The first field was maximum size, then I extended it to the next maximum size. I did have to keep an eye on the common labor force since when it goes red, the harvesting efforts go negative.

      The first thing I did once I got around to putting in some roads was back off a few squares from the town center and head straight north and south. That provided extra space for stuff within the section where the town center was. I did the same on the other side of the town center. I put a lot of useful structures inside that strip of land, like the storage buildings, towers, and such that need protection from raiders. By the way, the door on the town center is facing south normally to give you a compass reference.

    I know this is older but I have one tip that I found extremely useful that is not mentioned in this video:
    You can halt construction. If you are like me and want to pre plan where your houses will go for future building and desirability planning, this helps. Place down the house (or other asset) then immediately uncheck the 'enable construction' box. You can turn on construction as needed but this will help witg city planning!

    I find this game quite frustrating. I was playing it last night, was doing really well, and then my town burnt down. I had Wells all over the place in strategic locations so it's not like I ignored that aspect of the game. Now granted, some well locations had more water in them than others but there absolutely should have been enough Wells available along with free citizens to put out the fires. Instead, the fires just spread and within a few minutes my town was ash. In my opinion this element is definitely broken in the game. Granted however it's early access. The only way around it would be to build fire traps between every house which is completely ridiculous.
