  • Stevie Wonder; One of the Greatest Most Prolific Artists and Songwriters Of All Time Multi GRAMMY winner, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Philanthropist, Social Justice Activist invited Jody Watley to be a guest on his 1988 MTV Special 'Characters'. Watley joined Wonder for this funky rendition of the classic "Superstition" that she would reflect how surreal it was because she'd performed the song while in Junior High with her girl group -"this was a full circle moment" not only to perform this with blues rock great Stevie Ray Vaughan, hip hop legends Salt-n-Pepa as well as Prince bassist BrownMark. "In addition for Stevie to duet and sing with me on one of my classic hits 'Some Kind Of Lover' - such an honor." This is such a monumental musical moment and experience.
GRAMMY award winning multi-platinum singer/songwriter/producer/independent label owner Jody Watley can now add radio host to her vast impressive resume. The monthly Jody Watley show is centered around classic 70s and 80s R&B, and inspirational conversations with select special guests. Sirius XM reaches nearly 35 million subscribers.
Chris Campbell from NPR's Progressive Underground notes "Jody Watley enjoys longevity through constant evolution." Her entire nearly 5-decade career is always about looking forward, unafraid to change and grow. Watley first came to prominence at the young age of 14 as one of the most popular trendsetting dancers of all time on the iconic TV show Soul Train a global cultural touchstone of dance, music and fashion. From there she went on the become the original female member of the Disco/R&B trio Shalamar for 5 years, (1978-1983) recording some of their most pinnacle recordings before her eventual entrance into the pop stratosphere as a hitmaking solo artist."
From her groundbreaking marriage of rap & R&B 1989’s “Friends,” a collaboration with hip-hop legends Eric B. & Rakim the first Pop/R&B/Rap/Dance hit to crossover Top 10 on multiple charts; to her vision-forward marriage of high fashion, street fashion and music in the ‘80s (long before it became the norm), to her fusion of jazz and underground club culture with keen pop instincts, and the ease with which she crossed and still crosses genre, Watley forged the template that is now everybody’s playbook.
