Cheers for the tutorial! Brought a used rgh xbox 360 halo 3 console on ebay and was on a 2013 update so this was very helpful! can confirm that this still works in 2022!
This video serves as a nice guide but it is a bit incomplete so for anyone facing problems troubleshoot below
1 - If you have a slim corona 4gb model xebuild will give a nand size error and wont read kv data in the right corner, to fix this you will need to put in your cpu key yourself (either check xell or dashlaunch to get it) and ignore the check kv and all keyvault options. Instead
.Switch to advanced mode on xebuild gui
.Disable Failsafe
.check freeboot 1 (rgh 1) or freeboot 2.0 (rgh 2.0) (Check dashlaunch for your console)
.select corona on motherboard
.select the kernel version u want
.under misc options check open parameter/argument editor (reverse of what warfare says in the guide)
.check disable FCRT under special patches
.then generate hacked image, click yes on the error
.when the parameter/argument editor opens in new parameter change -c corona to -c corona4g
.then save and run xebuild.
Follow the rest from the video.
And you don't need to change anything for the avatar update file to work on the corona motherboard that is all)
(If you don't do the above the simplenand flasher wll give an error about the nand size not being the same as current)
(Disclaimer: Don't call me out for being professional in this I've just suffered for a day getting this to work and I'm just helping others with the same motherboard).
This has been an absolutely helpful. I had Corona 4GB XBox and I was terrified by the error. Luckily I read the comments to see if anyone else was also facing the same issue. I assumed it had to be because of Corona as Modded_Warfare had a Trinity glitch. Thanks a lot man. If you are reading this Modded_Warfare, may be update this tutorial or title and a new video for Corona model.
Thx you all really helpful guide sidenote if your disk drive doesnt work after upgrading the Kernel do everything as discribed from @The Siffer and ONLY uncheck disable FCRT under special patches fixed it atleast for me

Quick trick - If you want after you update DASHBOARD, you CAN update your avatars by clicking yes in the prompt that shows up on the console, without worry of bricking console.
You mean the xbox live message that asks to update ? I am trying to update the avatar via usb as he did in the video, but the message doesnt show up.

I heard that the update will break the dashboard so that if you update dashboard will lose your JTAG is that correct AND if you update it will no longer be able to play downloaded games and so is that true for all said dont update the dashboard but do NOT but update and can wreck the box for Permanently do not update AND!?

To be honest, am a noob to xbox, but can confirm that my kinect works and avatar is not greyed, so that is my assumption

I yesterday bough a second hand xbox 360 (2.0.16767.0) the kinect didn't work and needs an update. Because of jtag I couldn't just update, after hours of trying, I gave up, But today I saw your tutorial and it's brilliant!!!!
1. backup nand
2. create update nand using tool
3. update nand in Xbox
4. Update $$ystemupdate
and it works
I coudn't find the homebrew folder so I used another folder. Now I have 17559 instead of 16767 and now the systemupdate did work and te kinect works perfect. Thank you, thank you, thank you very much!

Just want to say i jumped into modding when i was 23 and i bricked my jtag. then bought another then bricked it. then i watched your tutorials sent it in to be flashed, and since then have followed your tutorials ever since. ive been able to mod smoothly because of you dude. i havent modded in years just jumped in again and its like a daejavu lmao thank dude you have saved me soo much money

Thanks man. this worked fine. last time I did this I did it with the nand dumped over FTP with XellReloaded and that bricked the console. So I just reflashed it with my nandflasher real quick and now I did it again but dumped it with simple 360 flasher and it worked just fine. Thank god I have the tool to unbrick my console. haha

Hi Modded, I've got a question, I've just got a 360 E already flashed with rgh, the thing is,it doesn't have an hdd, I've been using an external hard drive and it's worked wonders with dashlaunch and Xexmenu, but I want to play Kinnect games, could I do this and install everything in the external hard drive, or would that just break everything? i hope that you actually see this, thanks.

Hello. Followed your video today to a t. Everything went fine, but after downloading the avatar update package from xbox.com we got an update error 4997 0000 3000 0903 8007 045D. Is there a workaround? Thanks in advance.

My Dashboard is already on the latest version, however I miss the Avatar assets (I guess) as Kinect won't work on my RGH 360. Can I just to the $$ update in the last part of the video or do I need to dump NAND and the whole process ?

Hi. I've tried follow every steps of your tutorial up till flashing the updflash.bin file with the Simple 360 NAND. The flash completed in 25 seconcs and the Xbox automatically shut down. Now I have a few problems:
1. When I try to restart it, the TV indicates no display signal. Tried changing TV ports and HDMI cables, still doesn't work.
2. Only the power button led at the center turn on green, but no green ring.
3. The green lights on the controller's guide button also doesn't light up. But I can still turn on the console using the guide button.
What should I do now to even get any display signal?
it is probably an error because of the update. But maybe the power supply isnt working properly ? I hope you can fix this

I've recently brought a chipped 360 E that already had the latest dash, but I can't seen to get the avatar/ kinect bit onto it. I've downloaded the update, put it on a memory stick (one I know works with the console) but I don't get the prompt to update. I've tried to add the extra $, but still nothing. Could some help, please?
I need help bec when I go in the simple360nandflaser.xex it and click on X for drumping my nand it just gives me a black screen and kick me back to my home screen

Been a while since Ive done this but I think you have to disable safe mode and tick an option somewhere, Google is your friend.

I followed the steps but, now my console boots up but there is no display on my screen. what I mean is Its like the HDMI cord isn't even plugged in. Another thing I just noticed is that even with it powered I cant connect to it with neighborhood the last time there was a display was when it was shut down after I flashed the nand. any help would be appreciated.
update: I some how fixed it. For anyone else having this problem I took out the hard drive and it turned on. I turned it back off put the hard drive back in and just launched xell reloaded, waited for everything to load then turned it off. turned it on again and it worked.

Modded,I just got a second jtag xbox 360 slim and its on the latest Dash 17511. My orginal Jtag was just upgated today to 17511 and reinstalled the avatar update.I am trying to get any game that supports local network play working. for instance COD BOII or Dirt 3 I have ensured that both have the same title update version installed. Yet when I try to create a game on one and join with the other it fails.Do you have any suggestions?

For mine says my flashdmp.bin unable to determine dump size I used this tutorial before to update it to Dash 2.0.17526.0 but it doesn't appear to be working, also the whole $SystemUpdate part doesn't work either... Also when I try to flash the nand it says it's "SPARE data to a machine that don't require it!" But at the same time I am unable to update my dash. Any ideas? My xbox is A Corona (4GB Onboard) Motherboard honestly I don't really know if it helps but any ideas might help, many thanks

Hey currently having an issue w/ updating from 17511->17526. After my RGH shutting down after drag and dropping the updflash file and booting default xex, rebooting comes up with the E71 error. I've managed to fix it with blank launch files and reflashing it with the backed up nand, but it obviously puts me back onto the original dashboard I started with. I heard it has something to do with plugins being old/corrupted, but I only have one plugin, which is the xbdm xex file (neighbourhood), which I setup via your tutorials.
Any advice on how to combat error E71 upon rebooting the xbox and to keep dashboard 17526?

You probably have a stealth server plugin that went bad, try to put a launch.ini file in it, boot and remove the plugins from it

The green light on it keeps blinking and when i go to calibrate it, it demands for update but yea after i updated the avatar thats when it started working, thanks buddy!!

My jtag abxox 360 doesn't have a Homebrew file in its directories. Where do i copy the files now to update the dash to 17559? Please help us. This question was raised a couple of times before. Hope to hear from your soon.

For anyone having trouble updating the avatar, follow these steps.
1. Disconnect from the internet
2. You have to delete the existing updates in the memory unit (it will delet everything in it) so if you have a profile saved in it move to another place. Go to system> storage then press LB, LT, RB , RT then X ( need to be in this order) then a message will pop up asking to delete existing update files, press yes. Dont tou worry it will not delete anything important like kernel version for example.
3. Now you can plug your usb drive with the update in it and the message will pop up asking to update (needs to be the folder inside from the one you extract)

I did eveyrything like in the video - xbox isn't bricked, system dash is the newest one, i can create an avatar, games launched without a harm but - when i try to install update from usb - nothing happens. Freestyle dash see usb, xbox pop up the message that stick is on, but nothing happens. I have the newest dash and newest update files. I can't acces my achievements either. Maybe you have a solution? If you do this and your xbox just keeps booting to the original dashboard (and still boots to xell), start from step 1 in these vids and use XeXMenu to reset your Launch.ini through Dashlaunch
My motherboard model is corona and i go to link you have given in the old video for corona mothetboard. I followed the link and follow exactly same but after restart my console is not turning on but the green light is showing. Did i brick my console? Or there is a/v cable problem? Please help.

Hi @modded warfare, i have the latest version 17599 but my Avatars are gone and kinect games wont work. Do i need to still update?
If anyone of you experience the same issue I had in which your console just red lights then check if you can enter Xell reloaded via power on by eject.
you can then make the update manually in J-Runner from the extracted nand file and put the updflash.bin on the root of your USB, once done plug it in and start Xell reloaded, It should flash that nand image.

i have corona glitch 2 and am on 17559, also keep in mind that there shouldn't be any future updates since microsoft gave up supporting 360
It won't let me update the Avatar update on my RGH. I successfully updated to the newest firmware (17511) and when I plug the flash drive into my RGH with the Avatar update on it, my RGH does not prompt me to install the update. I've already tried changing the file name as you do in the video but with no luck. Please help :(
avatar updates from xbox live dont seem to be a problem, but if you dont want to, i dont blame you.
format the drive on the xbox 360 first than place the drive into your console with the system update folder on it make sure its only the file not a .rar folder and dont format the drive on the computer on on the xbox
I was having this issue where it just didnt even detect the update on USB. I had to rename $SystemUpdate_17526 to $$ystemUpdate_17526 this finally got it to detect. Oh and if you have Arora dash like I did you press the xbox circle thing press Y then yes and hold down RB which gets you to microsoft dash. From there it detected the update and ran it however after extracting it rebooted and went back to Aurora. So from there to see if it all worked I loaded up dashlaunch go to paths and under Default press Y to clear it then rb select your HDD or where the settings are saved and press X then back which gets you back to loading up in microsoft dash. Did that and there is the white guy with no face. Oh well at least it sort of worked. After that however you will need XeXmenu burnt to CD to get back to Aurora. Do that put it in go to game and there is XeXMenu. Load that up press rb till you get to HDD or press X then HDD and A. After that go to the folder where Aurora is and down to Default.Xex and press A. Back to dashlaunch paths default. Then from there go to hdd and the install dir of Aurora again select the Default.Xex and then rb over to the other menu where you save dashlaunch settings. From there go to your HDD or where ever Aurora is mine is HDD and press X to save settings. press back and all done.

this is a nice explanatory tutorial but while i got the dashboard to update i cant get the avatar update prompt to appear at all. ive tried a few different combinations of putting the systemupdate folder on two different usb drives and changing the first s to a dollar sign, and i even tried using the disc files on a cd (i wouldve tried burning to a dvd if my computer's dvd drive would work at all) is there an easy fix for this
edit: if its important, i dont have a hard drive

Hey I am currently following this tut and everything seems pretty straight forward so far. Except when dumping the nand, I get an error in simple 360 that says "size 0 unsupported format" or something like that. When I boot through Xell, I get "sfcx unsupported type b-0". Any idea what I can do? I can provide more information if needed
