- The Aurora Dashboard is the latest and most currently supported custom Dashboard for hardmodded Xbox 360 consoles. This tutorial will cover how to download and install Aurora for any first time users, as well as a rundown of some basic functionality. Along the way this video will also include XeXMenu and DashLaunch installations, in order to copy over the initial files and configure Aurora to be the console's default Dashboard. Having a custom Dashboard is an absolute must have item for any JTAG or RGH owner, as some of the awesome added features include, but aren't limited to:

Aaah man seeing you post this makes me even more excited for my Jasper 360 to come in! (comes in on Monday!) I legit ordered it because I haven’t touched a 360 since my two (Opus and Xenon) RROD on me back in 2013 and figured you’d have some good guides to make my return a bit more fun!

Thanks for the video. Just paid someone to RGH my 360 and they put on some type of firmware that was all blue and got you onto some weird version of xbox live, but I wasn't interested in that. So I formatted my hard drive with my PC, then followed along to this video and I'm loving my 360 with Aurora.
Sounds like Shield, which is a stealth service that allows you to get on Xbox Live even if your console is banned.

I got a weird thing going on mate. When I format the USB, it is not the same as yours. I get a hidden folder called XBOX360 and a few Data files inside of it. If I try to copy anything over it just tells me I need another 34.4mb of space. I tried it on 3 dif USB sticks, all copy the files, none I can transfare?
The latest dash update formats like this, that's all I can tell you.
@@MrMario2011 I managed to get around it by FTP'ing the files to the Internal drive. I then copied the files as guided to HDD1 and its all installed etc, set the paths etc, set the ini. But Aurora does not want to play ball. Just says you need to download the game again. For context , I dont think Im on the latest dash, if anything I think its very old. Here is the info given in DashLaunch:
Board: Jasper

Kernal: 2.0.14719.0
Do I need to update you think for this to work, or go with another launcher etc?

It was my dash like you said. I had to go around the houses by FTP'ing to get it set up. Aurora cant run on that early dash. So I learned how to flash my Nand with the latest dash etc and now I'm all up and running with a clean install and a 2TB drive ready to rip all my games onto.
Thank you so much for the help with the HW, SW, and all involved in these videos. You have well and truly got my systems up and running to the max... just the way I like it. Plus leaned muchos about the intricacies of the 360 along my merry travels too.

hi mr mario, i cannot describe how to thank you, this was my first time getting my hands on a 360, modding and playing the 360. and it has been a journey from my modding experience, there has been some set backs and lots of confusion and desperation, for example i really cant copy the same steps as explained here simply because my dash is outdated, my kernel is outdated etc. it took me 4 days to finally getting everything setup from just freestyle 3 to aurora just like this video. thank you mr mario.

Excellent. Thank you very much. Been meaning to update my RGH for sometime.
Two more things:
1. On the Flash Drive, on the computer - create a Folder called Apps - then place aurora, dashlaunch, xellaunch and xexmenu into it. This way you just have to copy this "Apps" folder to the internal harddrive - it's all in one go then and you don't have to create a folder on the xbox - it's much easier and faster when you do it before on the computer.
2. He forgot to copy the content folder to the internal harddisk.
The rest is fine.

Why would he need to copy the content folder? The only thing stored there was XeXMenu in Demo format, and that was copied to the hard drive anyway. The only purpose of that folder is to interface with the regular Xbox 360 dashboard, and therefore allow XeXMenu to run on the system. Why would it need to be copied, when not only are the contents useless (due to the other XeXMenu) but also have already been copied?

MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE DIED BUT I JUST USED MY USB INSTEAD AND VERY THANKFUL FOR THIS VID TO GET BACK THE AURORA
When I format the USB, I get a hidden folder called XBOX360 and a few Data files inside of it. What should I do in this case?

Same problem here. There is an Xbox360 folder and the usbbstick seems full when plugged in PC.
So seems now updated software for the consoles don't allow formatting. I formatted with another console that I already used before to format a USB but it won't read on the other console

Hey, thanks for the video. It's all pretty intuitive but it's nice to have a walkthrough for it. I struggled a lot with setting up my original Xbox after I hacked it lol so it's nice to not have the pain this time around.

I just got my first rgh 360 and loving it. Backed up all my games but still can't get my added games to show up consistently in the cover flow. I'll do scan it'll show for little bit then if I go into a game or reboot it doesn't stay for some reason. I can still play them using file manager so I'm glad there there.

Aurora is just fine & kinda right for everybody. However I do like Freestyle dash so much better because of the nostalgia themes like the NXE & blades.

Now that I've installed everything & am on Aurora, I cannot return to the original menu by going to System Settings (it just closes the home button menu). Any other way to get back to the original home?

Can you please make a video about how to Clone a RGH drive, and maintain Cover Art without redownloading? There doesn't seem to be any reliable tutorials on this. Maintaining a backup drive is important for future preservation.

The only thing I can't do is change the game category, I have some homebrew apps showing up in the XBOX 360 section and a XBOX 360 games showing up in the XBOX live arcade section. Could you please do a video on how to edit the Content Database file?

It isn't called a jailbreak. You have to hardmod it, which requires soldering. Look up RGH and go from there.

Hi Mario I have a question I have a 360 rgh with 250gb . Is there a way I can clone the 250gb to a 2.5 1tb hard drive internal . Do u have a tutorial video?
For whatever reason it says 'something is wrong. Some data is missing' when I try to boot up XeXMenu 1.1. I've read on old forum threads that the solution is to just reinstall it but I've tried multiple times and it just didn't work. Somehot it works fine with XeXMenu 1.2, though.

It's so ridiculous for some reason whenever I go to the USB stick the always seems to have a habit of going into the first menu which is content doesn't shows anything else coarse slapped my face and I realised if I press the d-pad it would have shown up the rest of the files but yeah great video easier to understand most of the videos I came across her way too confusing I really appreciate it tutorial it helped a lot

Mario, the folder you select for the path is scan level 0, not 1. So you can subtract 1 from all your scan depths =). Love ya bro!

my problem is when launching aurora for the first time after installation it won't launch and gives me the "unhandled exception" error 😢
I love the Aurora dashboard, but the only issue I have with it is reading the folder where I put my custom skins.
I've tried changing the folder permissions, but the skin still doesn't show up. Any ideas?

Both discs can be ripped over normally, and disc switching will automatically happen in game.

Hello, I know this video is old but I'm just watching this and following your steps however, when I try to format my USB stick with my Xbox it only formats it as a memory unit and not a storage device. It is a 60gb USB. My Xbox is a Phat JTAG model. Can you please help?

If my Xbox system software isn’t updated to the latest version will that not allow Aurora to launch because mines gets stuck on the black screen.

Am I the only one that finds Aurora less intuitive and more difficult to utilize than freestyle was? I honestly want to go back. Can anyone explain why they think Aurora is better?
It isn't as intuitive in some ways, but it has active development on it. None of the others stay up to date.
I agree man , you can can do all of this in freestyle without jumping through xmenu
I honestly hate aurora. One thing I really liked about freestyle was the tons of different skins for it. Aurora doesn't have skins per say. Different backgrounds and subtle color changes, but it still looks the same. I love being able to have my dash either be blades, nxe, xbox one style, etc. Aurora doesn't have any skins that are different.
