@@linsqopiring6816Pernell Roberts is a legend and one of the most talented actors ever! Master both tv and theatre. What is it that you dont understand?
An extremely well-scripted, acted and directed episode. One of Pernell's best performances as Adam. He was truly a highly talented yet underrated actor. Keir Dullea, Otto Kruger, William Zuckert, Kevin Haven and Ron Soble all shone in their supporting roles. Once again, Adam is the brains of Bonanza with a heart to match. The humanity of this series is truly humbling. I especially liked Keir's Bob Jolley facing the truth about his flawed but innocent father and his guilt over his father's lonely, tragic death. A very moving episode that still resonates after more than five decades. That is the true test of any art form, especially drama. Many thanks again for airing this fine episode.
@@hannahcruz1440 Pernell never regretted leaving the show. He went on to an award-winning theater career and a more satisfying and lucrative TV gig as the lead on Trapper John MD. Pernell also was a social and political activist, having marched for civil rights with Dr. King at Selma. He may have foregone making millions of dollars had he stayed on Bonanza, but he led a million-dollar life in values, in my humble opinion. Actually, the senator was the culprit and blame was on the young fellow Jolly. He was accused of the murder. But at last he was released from the jail because Adam Cartwright fought the case and did his best and released him. Everybody knew who the culprit was. Fantastic episode! Another thing that Jolly was so handsome man, so innocent. I liked him very much. This episode touched my heart. Nice episode. I liked it.
Excellent episode, as others have noted. Even the camera work and editing were a bit above average. For interesting camera work, check out the episodes directed by Robert Altman.
I think that judge was a spineless wimp. Instead of doing his duty as a judge, he caved in and did not have the balls to stand up for justice. This is especially galling in a capital case, when a man’s life was at stake. The senator and that other man were just crooks, but a judge who violates his oath … I just cannot stomach that at all.
Because Brando and Dean had made the Rebel movies new idols many of the actors that would have been leading men in movies had turned to television. In my opinion they are far better actors but they don’t fit the Rebel mode. But that’s why these older TV shows are so good because of the high talented actors they had on the show.
Nevada didn't have federal senators until 1865, after the statehood was rushed through just prior to Lincoln's win in the 1864 presidental election. This story is set in the 3 1/2 years period that the Nevada Territory existed prior to this, when they didn't have senators.

In the opening scene, they can be seen loading the wagon with sacks of grain. If they own the biggest ranch in Nevada, why don't they just grow all that grain and whatnot? They are all the time going into town to buy supplies that the land they own could easily supply.
They use that land for range and pasture. Grain takes plowing, seeding, irrigation, harvesting and threshing. All that takes equipment and manpower. Time and money.

Adam and his family were never farmers, they were ranchers.

Another good show with great acting and story line about how law can be twisted holding back evidence.
My absolute favorite of the Bonanza series! Soo glad I found this. Many Thanx!👍👍👍🤗✌️
i like when Adam has the lead roll
Wow the Cartwright's really man crush!
What sort of roll did he have here? Dinner roll? Crescent roll? Rock and roll?
This was a great episode. None of that ridiculous silliness. This is the kind of story I watch Bonanza for.
It was excellent. I admit, I watch for both types of stories.
I like the silly episodes. They were all such great comedic actors. The serious episodes are great though

Though,
Some of their slapstick was hilarious.
